In May of 1938, representa ves from area ins tu ons of higher learning gathered in Fresno, Calif., to form a unique collegiate athle c organiza on dedicated to America’s community and junior colleges. The mee ng led to the adop on of a cons tu on and representa ves in a endance formally announced the new organiza on as the Na onal Junior College Athle c Associa‐ on (NJCAA). Seventy‐five years a er its inaugural season (1938‐39), the NJCAA is now the second‐largest na onal intercollegiate athle c governing body in the United States with over 500 member colleges in 43 states. Recognized as the leader in two‐year collegiate athle cs, the NJCAA champions both athle c and academic opportuni es for student‐athletes in concert with its member colleges.

In 1974, the NJCAA’s inaugural Na onal Volleyball Invita onal Tournament became the first collegiate championship held for women by a co‐ed collegiate organiza on. The tournament would evolve into a na onal championship just two years later as the sport began to spread to campuses across the country. Nearly 38 years later, 314 teams from 35 States will compete for na onal championships across three divisions.

To commemorate its 75th Anniversary, the NJCAA will launch a year‐long campaign to celebrate the milestones, student‐athletes, coaches, and administrators that have helped shape the organiza on and advance two‐year collegiate athle cs over the past eight decades. Throughout the 2012‐13 academic year, the NJCAA will celebrate its 75th Anniversary through various outlets, including a special sec on of the NJCAA website: NJCAA.org/75. Tradi onal press releases will be distributed to member colleges as well as regional and na onal media during the 2012‐13 sports season and special 75th Anniversary content will be produced for the organiza on’s monthly publica on ‐ NJCAA Review. NJCAA TV, powered by iHigh.com, as well as Facebook and Twi er will be used to help keep member colleges, fans and followers informed on the latest 75th Anniversary news and announcements.

With transfer‐se er Ellie Harp joining a solid cast, the Bears will try to rid themselves of their runner‐up woes.

A deep, experienced roster will give the Pioneers a shot to prove they are the best team in Minnesota and the na on.

A third‐place finish in 2011 has the Golden Eagles and their four returning starters hungry for a championship.

NIAGARA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLLEGE, N.Y.

A er star ng 33‐0 in the 2011 regular season, the Thunderwolves will try to translate that success to the na onal stage.

SANDHILLS COMMUNITY COLLEGE, N.C.

The Flyers return Region‐10 Player of the Year Chelcey Parker to make a run at the program’s first championship.

MONTGOMERY COLLEGE-ROCKVILLE, MD.

Knights head coach Amir Mafinejad has high expecta ons for 2012 a er a disappoin ng finish last season.

Other Teams to Watch Butler County Community College, Pa. (21‐5) Montgomery County Community College, Pa. (19‐3) Davidson County Community College, N.C. (20‐10) Queensborough Community College (21‐5) Harper College, Ill. (33‐14)

The Warriors will aim for their third‐straight na onal championship in 2012, but must do so without All‐Americans Hannah Smith and Kelsey Stommes. Head coach Joe Sussenguth returns four starters from last season but will look to a talented crop of incoming freshman to provide a spark. If Ridgewater pulls off the three‐peat, they would be the first school in DIII history to do so. Five back‐to‐back DIII champions have failed at accomplishing the feat.
