The UMB has earmarked a site within Chiromo campus along Prof. Maurice Alala Road, bordered by SWA Café to the West, Physics Department to the North, and Nairobi River Tributary to the South, measuring approximately 30m by 30m. Their intention is to design accommodation space for 6 graduate students (from the School of Built Environment) complete with their support facilities. Through insightful use of five - 40 feet containers which are relatively cheap and readily available at container depot, Industrial area, Nairobi. Care should be taken in handling the topography, environmental, technical and social issues presented by both the site and the container. Your facility should have the following:• Sleeping station with at least 1.8m wardrobe length for maximum storage • A complete work station: reading, computer area, book shelves etc • A common kitchenette with a cooker, sink and reasonable fridge • An eating space for 6 students • A relaxation area with easy seating, rack for TV and music system. The space should be able to accommodate group studies during examination period • Two showers, a WC and a WHB to be provided and an efficient piping system • 6 No. parking spaces • External landscaped recreational space

A Mutual Fund Organisation has approached you to re-develop properties in various sites around Nairobi Metropolitan region. The proposal is a mixed use development (MUD) which will infuse life and inspire change in the neighbourhood. The board of directors has identified several potential sites around Nairobi. The project seeks to meet the expectations of the ever demanding URBAN population in Nairobi and to meet client’s objectives. The Mutual Fund Organisation wants to put up a Mixed Use Development (MUD) comprising of; -A 1800 sq. ft retail bank at ground floor plus other trending businesses -A restaurant on first floor with options of extending to mezzanine floor -Retail shops in line with the neighbourhoods trends -Offices for startup professional firms i.e. legal, artists etc. -3 no. two bedroom apartments -3 no. studio flats on upper levels -Basement parking. -Any other lucrative activity.

The County Government of Taita Taveta (CGTT) in association with development partners has approached you to design the Voi Resource Centre in Voi Sub County. The Centre should encapsulate cultural values and norms of the Taita Taveta People. It should be inspirational, a source of employment and business, the pride of the citizenry. It should have spaces to display, performs, represent and partake of the rich cultural traditions. It will be a world class Centre, in tandem with similar developments around the globe. The Centre will have the following spaces: • Library (mid-level) and information centre • Auditorium for 600 pax • 4 meeting rooms • Amphi-theatre for 400 pax • Cafeteria & Kitchen • 4 class rooms • Administration offices & 3 retail outlets (Curio shop, bookshop, souvenir shop) • Maintenance department and other ancillary facilities • Open spaces: landscaped spaces, fields, courtyards, etc.
