The concept for this sevenminute choral suite origin ated when the arranger, David Elliott and series advisor, Dr. Doreen Rao, visited an art museum. They viewed a statue of two children facing each other, holding hands. The idea of children singing and “swinging” together got connected with jazz, and the result is this set of songs that the legendary Ella Fitzgerald sang throughout her career. Va, Pensiero (from Nabucco) CME Opera Workshop Giuseppe Verdi This chorus from the third act of Nabucco became synonymous with Italy’s 19th century struggle to cast off foreign occupation and become a united nation. avner hanani Morning Bells CME In High Voice This brilliant and impressive work might be described as an outburst of optimism and brightness. It is divided into three main parts, each built out of several short sections, all connected by a continuous flowing piano accompaniment with the texture shifting back and forth between a chorale-like hymn and a three part canon. Amazing Grace CME In High Voice The Michigan State University Women’s Chorus enthralled their audiences at the 2009 National ACDA convention in Oklahoma City with this unique setting of the beloved hymn by John Newton. Weaving together the melodies and texts of three Korean folk songs, Stephen Hatfield has created a seven-minute suite that suggests two contrasting moods of romantic longing – one full of vigor and action, the other more reflective. richard kidd After the Sleet Storm CME In High Voice This work for treble voices, cello and classical guitar begins with an ostinato repetition of the title, before the entrance of the melodic theme superimposed in counterpoint with the cello melody. wynton marsalis The Lord’s Prayer (from Abyssinian 200: A Celebration) Sing a New Song The first-ever choral movement available in print from jazz legend Wynton Marsalis! From a larger work celebrating the 200th anniversary of Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York, this is The Lord’s Prayer as you’ve never heard it. Full of the masterful jazz harmonies that are so unique to Marsalis, the heart of this movement is a cappella, with piano accompaniment and clarinet cadenza bringing the finale to a rousing and glorious conclusion. 48020621 SATB ��$1.90

Rory magill & kathy armstrong Bobobo Suite CME Building Bridges Bobobo is a traditional dance of the Ewe people in the Volta Region of Ghana. This is a well-known and popular Scottish song, and the tune is probably older than the lyrics. This simple lullaby tells the story of Dream Angus, one of the earliest of the Celtic deities, and one of the most beloved. ned rorem Two Shake spearean Songs Yale Glee Club New Classic Choral Series Ned Rorem has been described as “The world’s best composer of art songs,” and these two contrasting and compelling works for chorus affirm this description. “Dirge” poignantly expresses the pain of unquiet love, while “Live with Me,” creates a somewhat playful mood. Stay With Me, Lord A setting of Padre Pio’s “Prayer after Holy Communion” commissioned by the Genesis Foundation and first performed by The Sixteen in June 2008 at Westminster Cathedral, London. Padre Pio (1887-1968) was, in his lifetime, a controversial and holy man, and was canonized St. Pius of Pietrelcina in 2002.
