To my mother, Beatty Johnson, whose love and encouragement were never ending.
Preface The Piano Teacher’s Resource Kit stems from Jennifer Linn’s idea to create a book of worksheets and pages piano teachers can reproduce and use with many individual students and classes. I was the fortunate one asked to set the wheels in motion. I’ve never had so much fun writing; every page was a joy to create. Written in five levels from early elementary to early advanced, the book covers a wide range of theory concepts. While writing the book I tested the worksheets and games with my students. Their responses have immeasurably improved the book’s appeal and usefulness. Through fun and games, I have attempted to establish a solid theory format. Teachers and students alike will, I hope, find the book to be a true resource, one that makes music theory exciting and enjoyable. The book also includes practice charts, skill charts, assignment sheets and various tools I use in my studio.
Acknowledgements Thanks to Jennifer Linn, manager of educational keyboard for Hal Leonard, for her ideas and suggestions; to Sharon Stosur, editor; to Philelle McBrayer, a dear friend and colleague who has helped me with many projects over the years; to my students, the greatest motivators for writing and creating tools; and to my husband, John, who makes the written word so clear and concise.
