Shorewood Drama Junior We are dedicating our Summer 2017 Activity Guide to Shorewood Drama Junior as it is coming upon it’s 25th production this summer with You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Shorewood Drama Junior is a theatre program offered through the Recreation Department, with the help and support of Shorewood High School’s Drama Department, parents, family, and friends of the Shorewood Drama Jr. Players. Beginning the Summer of 2009, three different productions per year have been offered for students from 4th through 8th grade. Drama Junior introduces the student to the theatre. Students learn about all aspects, from its history, to its creators, to the many theatrical genres. They begin to use the language of the theatre and appreciate its traditions and importance. Drama Junior prepares students who would like to join the renown Shorewood High School Drama Program. But even for those students, who do not pursue drama in high school, they learn valuable life lessons such as confidence, determination, humility, and a sense of the collaborative spirit, all skills valuable outside the realm of theatre. Shorewood Drama Jr.’s mission is to help young actors and technicians develop their craft and unlock their potential as they experience the wonder of the theatre while making lifelong friendships. Or, as Kermit the Frog said in The Muppet Movie... “I have a dream too, but it’s about singing and dancing and making people happy. It’s the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. And I found a whole group of friends who have the same dream, and that makes us sort of like a family”. Shorewood Drama has become a family! - Sara Van Loon and Brinn Hill, Shorewood Drama Jr Instructors

Teen Fitness Camp Grade 7 - 9
We will be hosting a camp to instruct teens the safe and proper techniques to working out. During this camp we will challenge the participants with plyometrics, circuits, agility work, and cardio. It will consist of different types of workouts to introduce them to several types of exercises. Afterwards they will have a base knowledge of what to do when they are working out. Participants that attend at least 75% of the sessions will be given a free Fitness Center membership for the 2017 - 2018 school year. Class information can be found on pages 18 & 25.
Did You Know? Over the past two years we’ve replaced a lot of aging equipment. We have replaced six treadmills, seven ellipticals, six stationary bikes, two stairmasters, a spin bike, several TRX suspension trainers, and various smaller pieces of equipment. It doesn’t just stop there. We also upgraded our HVAC system, added security cameras, and done several other projects to update the facility. We have plans to continually replace aging or outdated equipment and update the facility to always offer a top-notch Fitness Center for our community.

Welcome To Summer 2017 Youth Programs!
The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services summer programs will offer a variety of wonderful experiences and opportunities for youth of all ages. To ensure that these experiences are positive for everyone involved and that one child’s behavior does not limit or interfere with another child’s experience, please talk with your child regarding:
1. Respect one Another P P P P
Encourage others rather than put them down. Use appropriate language (No name calling). Respect each other’s personal space and property. Show good sportsmanship and follow all the rules to all games played.
2. Respect the Staff
Follow directions the first time. Speak in a respectful tone. Trust the staff to make good decisions. Tell a staff member if you are leaving an activity or program. P Immediately tell a staff member if another participant is physically or verbally bothering you. P P P P
3. Respect the Environment
P Always use equipment and furniture for the purpose P P P P
it was designed. Walk, do not run inside the buildings. Report all broken equipment immediately to staff. Care for our outdoor and indoor surroundings. Clean up after yourself before leaving an area.
The Recreation Department wants all children to have a fun summer in our programs. A safe environment is most important. If a child is disruptive in programs, refuses to follow the directions of our instructors, or endangers the health and safety of other participants or staff, parents/guardians will be notified to discuss the situation. Each situation will be handled on a case by case basis.
Does your Child need Special Accommodations?
If your child requires any special assistance, accommodations or has any special needs that we should be aware of, please let the Recreation Department know when registering. We want to provide your child with a fun, successful and safe summer in our programs.

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF SHOREWOOD- BRIGHT BEGINNINGS PRESCHOOL 2017 - 2018 SCHOOL YEAR Must be at least 3 years by October 31, 2017 Bright Beginnings Preschool focuses on the individual child, and provides an educational environment that stimulates and nurtures each child’s unique growth potential. We provide numerous exciting and engaging thematic units throughout the year, allowing your children to freely explore and grow in important skill development areas, including: large and fine motor skills, language and literacy, science and math, art and music. Your child’s social and emotional development is of prime importance. At Bright Beginnings, we help each child grow in his or her feelings of self-worth, self-confidence, respect, appreciation of others, love of learning and of school. Our curriculum reflects the most current understanding regarding child development and early education, and embraces Shorewood School District curriculum goals. Our classroom ratio is two adults for sixteen students. Bright Beginnings will follow the school year calendar for the 2017 - 2018 school year. When the elementary schools do not have school, Bright Beginnings will not be held. PRESCHOOL TOILETING GUIDELINES: All children are to be completely toilet trained before the first day of school. If your child is not completely toilet trained, you will be required to be present in the classroom and assist your child with toileting needs. Teachers and volunteers will assist children with buttons or snaps on clothing as necessary. Independence and reinforcement of self-help skills will be encouraged by the teachers. 2017 - 2018 Tuition Payments: A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required at the time of registration to reserve a spot for your child. Receive a $100 discount if tuition is paid in full at registration, otherwise a payment plan is available. All balances must be paid in full by August 1, 2017. NEW - Online registration now available, online fee will reflect the $100 discount (payment plans cannot be established online). No refunds or credit will be given for this program.

Since then and to this day, artists continue to express their own ideas of peace, unity and civil rights through their creativity and work. Art is not only about the skills and techniques that we learn, but the positive message that we can share with the world. In this class we will use our drawing, illustrating and painting skills to create our own artwork that sends messages of cultural awareness, social justice
and celebrates our differences as people. Page 30 Instructor: Anna Grosch We Wiggle, We Read We will read a different book each class and then do an activity related to the story.
