WELCOME TO SUMMER 2020! The Shorewood School District will be busy this summer with multiple construction projects at Atwater & Lake Bluff Elementary Schools and Shorewood High School. Although we are very excited for these updates, it will prove to be a challenge for our Recreation programming.

Home Base, Jr. Kids Club, and grades 4-6 Kids Club all have been relocated to Shorewood Intermediate School. This has made it necessary to change how we structure our programs and will limit the amount of participants we are able to accomodate. One of the biggest changes is that now you can only sign up for Home Base and Kids Club on a weekly basis, not daily as in years past.
LAKE BLUFF SCHOOL
With this being a major project with a lot of moving parts, things may change. We will do our best to communicate any changes, updates, or cancellations. Please be sure your email is updated in our database, this is our primary source of communication. Thank you for your patience this summer. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF SHOREWOOD - BRIGHT BEGINNINGS PRESCHOOL 2020 - 2021 SCHOOL YEAR Must be at least 3 years by October 31, 2020 Bright Beginnings Preschool focuses on the individual child and provides an educational environment that stimulates and nurtures each child’s unique growth potential. We provide numerous exciting and engaging thematic units throughout the year, allowing your children to freely explore and grow in important skill development areas, including: large and fine motor skills, language and literacy, science and math, art and music. Your child’s social and emotional development is of prime importance. At Bright Beginnings, we help each child grow in his or her feelings of self-worth, self-confidence, respect, appreciation of others, love of learning and of school. Our curriculum reflects the most current understanding regarding child development and early education, and embraces Shorewood School District curriculum goals. Bright Beginnings will follow the school year calendar for the 2020 - 2021 school year. When the elementary schools do not have school, Bright Beginnings will not be held. PRESCHOOL TOILETING GUIDELINES: All children are to be completely toilet trained before the first day of school. If your child is not completely toilet trained, you will be required to be present in the classroom and assist your child with toileting needs. Welcome To Summer 2020 Youth Programs!
The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services summer programs will offer a variety of wonderful experiences and opportunities for youth of all ages. To ensure that these experiences are positive for everyone involved and that one child’s behavior does not limit or interfere with another child’s experience, please talk with your child regarding: 1. Respect One Another P P P P
Encourage others rather than put them down. Use appropriate language (no name calling). Respect each other’s personal space and property. Show good sportsmanship and follow the rules to all games played.
2. Respect The Staff
Follow directions the first time. Speak in a respectful tone. Trust the staff to make good decisions. Tell a staff member if you are leaving an activity or program. P Immediately tell a staff member if another participant is physically or verbally bothering you. P P P P
3. Respect The Environment
P Always use equipment and furniture for the purpose P P P P
it was designed. Walk, do not run inside the buildings. Report all broken equipment immediately to staff. Care for our outdoor and indoor surroundings. Clean up after yourself before leaving an area.
The Recreation Department wants all children to have a positive experience in our programs. A safe environment is most important. If a child is disruptive in programs, refuses to follow the directions of our instructors, or endangers the health and safety of other participants or staff, parents/guardians will be notified to discuss the situation. Each situation will be handled on a case by case basis.

Do you need supervision for your child? The Shorewood School District will be busy this summer with multiple construction projects at Atwater & Lake Bluff Elementary Schools and Shorewood High School. Although we are very excited for these updates, it will prove to be a challenge for our programming. We appreciate your patience while we improve our District.

Shorewood Mountain Bike Team
Shorewood MTB is a co-ed mountain bike team for students in 6th grade through high school. We are a team invested in inviting new riders by offering scholarships, loaner bikes and carpools to events. Shorewood MTB is as much about adventure as competition. Students can participate in practices and team trips and are not required to compete. Mountain biking is a co-ed team sport where everyone plays - no team member has to sit on the bench. Most practices meet at Estabrook park throughout the summer on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, beginning in early July. On Saturdays, later in the summer, we will carpool to nearby trails. When the school year begins, weekday practices move to after school. Learn more about the team at our information session at SIS Commons on May 7th and join us for our season kick-off picnic on May 30th. For more information, you can reach our co-head coaches via email at sydney@shorewoodmtb.org or don@shorewoodmtb.org.

SIS Athletics
The purpose of the Shorewood School District’s youth sports programs is to guide each participant, boys and girls, through an organized program that will develop the fundamentals of each sport. Sports programs are open to any student who lives in the Village of Shorewood. Whatever sport your child chooses, they will be taught the fundamentals of the sport. Skill development will be stressed throughout the season and participants will receive a basic understanding of rules, sportsmanship and teamwork by the end of the season. Please contact LeVar Ridgeway, Shorewood School District’s Athletic Director, via e-mail at LRidgeway@shorewood.k12.wi.us or phone at (414) 963-6924 for information on SIS Athletics.
