COVID-19 PROCEDURES Shorewood Recreation has researched and adopted the following best practices to reduce risk factors and keep staff and participants safe. Please review these guidelines and share them with all family members who will be participating. Thank you for your help in keeping Shorewood safe and healthy.
Stay Home If You’re Sick
Any participant or instructor who has had ANY of the following symptoms within 24 hours of class may not participate: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle aches, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, new loss of taste or smell.
Avoid Close Contact
Parents are reminded to maintain 6 feet between themselves and others while checking-in and picking-up their child.
Masks
Participants are asked to make use of our hand sanitizers as they enter and exit our buildings.
No Waiting in the Building
At the request of both the School District and the Recreation Department, once children have entered the classroom or pool area, all parents or guardians must exit the building. We are unable to have people waiting in the buildings during classes. Our staff appreciates your understanding.
Locker Rooms / Restrooms
Shorewood Recreation follows the State and Local mask mandates. This requires people to wear masks which cover their nose and mouth anytime they are indoors. Shorewood Recreation will not be providing masks so please bring your own. Face masks are not to be worn in the pool. Parents will be asked to take off their child’s face mask and hold onto them while their children are in the pool area. Our swim instructors will be wearing face shields. We will be doing our best to space children out on the pool deck and in the water.
2
Wash/Sanitize Your Hands
For swim lessons, participants should come swim ready if possible*. The use of the locker room should be kept to a minimum. Locker’s will not be available to secure belongings. When ever possible a distance of 6 feet should be maintained and masks should be worn. (*)Wear swimsuits under clothing.
Disinfect Equipment
Our instructors will be disinfecting the equipment used in classes.
Please call the Recreation Dept at (414) 963-6913 x 4 if you have any questions regarding our procedures.
New Shorewood Students 4K - 12: Fall Registration Now Open Fall registration for the 2021-22 school year has begun for all resident families of a NEW student. The Shorewood School District encourages you to register your student(s) as soon as possible to help the schools balance class sizes and provide appropriate staffing. Whether you already have another child currently enrolled in a Shorewood Public School or if you are NEW to the District, instructions for how to register can be found at: shorewood.k12.wi.us/apps/pages/newenrollment. Please be sure to choose registration year 2021-2022 when completing the online form. You will be asked to: 1) Fill out your household’s demographic data, emergency contacts, and general health information. 2) Upload two documents to prove Shorewood residency. 3) Upload your child’s birth certificate or passport (for a child born outside the U.S., a passport is required) Currently enrolled Shorewood students will have annual registration for fall as usual, later in the year. Registration will be online again (as it was last summer); watch for details coming later this spring. With any questions, please email Iris Bohan in the District’s Pupil Services Office at ibohan@shorewood.k12.wi.us.

Students can become eligible to use the Shorewood Community Fitness Center without the supervision of an adult by completing this class. During the session(s) with a personal trainer, the student will learn proper techniques and safety when using equipment and etiquette rules pertaining to the use of the Fitness Center. If the student can demonstrate required knowledge and skills at the end of the session(s), the student will be able to work out without the supervision of an adult. Upon registration, please contact the Fitness Center to make an appointment. Fee does not include membership.
The SCFC will be hosting a camp to instruct teens on safe and proper techniques to working out. It will be geared towards athletes, but all fitness levels are welcomed. We will challenge the participants with plyometrics, circuits, agility work, and cardio. Each day will consist of different types of workouts to introduce them to several types of exercise. Afterwards they will have a base knowledge of what to do when they go to work out. Participants that attend at least seven of the sessions will be given a free Fitness Center membership for the 2021-2022 school year.

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF SHOREWOOD - BRIGHT BEGINNINGS PRESCHOOL 2021 - 2022 SCHOOL YEAR Must be at least 3 years by October 31, 2021 Bright Beginnings Preschool focuses on the individual child and provides an educational environment that stimulates and nurtures each child’s unique growth potential. We provide numerous exciting and engaging thematic units throughout the year, allowing your child to freely explore and grow in important skill development areas, including: large and fine motor skills, language and literacy, science and math, art and music. Your child’s social and emotional development is of prime importance. At Bright Beginnings, we help each child grow in his or her feelings of self-worth, self-confidence, respect, appreciation of others, love of learning and of school. Our curriculum reflects the most current understanding regarding child development and early education, and embraces Shorewood School District curriculum goals. Bright Beginnings will follow the school year calendar for the 2021 - 2022 school year. When the elementary schools do not have school, Bright Beginnings will not be held. PRESCHOOL TOILETING GUIDELINES: All children are to be completely toilet trained before the first day of school. If your child is not completely toilet trained, you will be required to be present in the classroom and assist your child with toileting needs. Teachers and volunteers will assist children with buttons or snaps on clothing as necessary. Independence and reinforcement of self-help skills will be encouraged by the teachers. 2021 - 2022 Tuition Payments: A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required at the time of registration to reserve a spot for your child. Receive a $100 discount if tuition is paid in full at registration. All balances must be paid in full by August 1, 2021. Welcome To Summer 2021 Youth Programs!
The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services summer programs will offer a variety of wonderful experiences and opportunities for youth of all ages. To ensure that these experiences are positive for everyone involved and that one child’s behavior does not limit or interfere with another child’s experience, please talk with your child regarding: 1. Respect One Another P P P P
Encourage others rather than put them down. Use appropriate language (no name calling). Respect each other’s personal space and property. Show good sportsmanship and follow the rules to all games played.
2. Respect The Staff
Follow directions the first time. Speak in a respectful tone. Trust the staff to make good decisions. Tell a staff member if you are leaving an activity or program. P Immediately tell a staff member if another participant is physically or verbally bothering you. P P P P
3. Respect The Environment
P Always use equipment and furniture for the purpose P P P P
it was designed. Walk, do not run inside the buildings. Report all broken equipment immediately to staff. Care for our outdoor and indoor surroundings. Clean up after yourself before leaving an area.
The Recreation Department wants all children to have a positive experience in our programs. A safe environment is most important. If a child is disruptive in programs, refuses to follow the directions of our instructors, or endangers the health and safety of other participants or staff, parents/guardians will be notified to discuss the situation. Each situation will be handled on a case by case basis.

A TRIBUTE TO JOHN DOHERTY On behalf of the Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Department, and the thousands of young people whose lives he has positively impacted through the decades, we’re proud to officially name the baseball diamond at Lake Bluff School John Doherty Field. For nearly a half century, Mr. Doherty and his crew of helpers - most of whom are program veterans - have been teaching local youth the fundamentals of America’s pastime. Along the way, Mr. Doherty has also imparted life-lessons about the importance of fair play, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We are grateful for the commitment and dedication that Mr. Doherty has shown to his Minors and Majors over the last 48 years. Naming the field in his honor is a small token of our appreciation for all he’s done to turn generations of our children into not only better baseball players, but better citizens. Thank you, Mr. Doherty...and “Play Ball!”
