mEEt OuR COvER DESIGNER...
My name is Lucy Petrick and I am currently a junior at Shorewood High School. This is my second year of taking graphic design classes with Mr. Zimpel. Graphic design is my favorite class because you get to be creative. I am very interested in photography, and graphic arts has allowed me to incorporate pictures that I’ve taken into my designs. In addition to photography, I am also interested in music. I love both listening to music and playing it. In the fall, I swim for the high school swim team, which I enjoy a great deal. I also love the outdoors and spend time outside whenever I can. I plan to continue taking graphic design throughout my high school education. Petrick is a part of Shorewood High School Graphic Design (GD) Program, led by teacher Jeff Zimpel. The program offers introductory, intermediate, and an advanced level. Within the courses, students are taught various types of computer software. The upper-level classes are taught in a design studio atmosphere, where clients come into the classroom in order to brief the student-designers on the project requirements. These projects originate both from within the school system and the community at large. Because students may take introductory graphic design as freshmen, and continue through several levels of advanced graphic design until graduation, this program offers an excellent foundation for those who wish to study graphic design, advertising, or other communications-related fields at the college level.

The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Departmemt now coordinates volunteers for the School District. Do you possess a special skill or area of expertise that would benefit the Shorewood School District? Do you enjoy working with children? District volunteers are utilized in several capacities such as one-on-one homework tutors, organizing teacher libraries, coaching youth sports teams, chaperoning field trips, photocopying and laminating, and ushering SHS Drama productions.
Grade 7 - 12 Do you love working with kids? Do you want to make a difference? The Recreation Department is seeking teen volunteers, to assist in our various summer recreation and enrichment programs! The Teen Volunteer Program has gone digital! Teen Volunteers must fill out an ONLINE application to volunteer, located at shorewoodschools.org, under the Recreation and Community Services Tab. After your application has been submitted and approved, you are able to attend either a Teen Volunteer Orientation in person OR watch a Teen Volunteer Orientation video (NEW!) and complete a short quiz. Upon completion of the orientation, volunteers will be given access to VICnet, an online volunteer information center, where they will be able to sign up for programs in need of volunteers. Teen Volunteers will sign up for programs and log their hours online through their VICnet account.
All volunteers must submit an online application which can be found on the district website at shorewoodschools.org under the Family Resources tab. Within ten business days of submission, you will receive an e-mail with access to VICnet, an online volunteer information center. From the VICnet, you will be able to sign up for District volunteer opportunities and log hours. For more information, please contact Kristin Serpe at (414) 963-6913 x 4 or at KSerpe@shorewood.k12.wi.us.
