Message From Patrick Miller, Business Manager

Meet Our Cover Designers...

Shorewood is StormReady速 Every year, we are faced with weather that puts lives at risk and has the potential to destroy or damage millions of dollars in property. While the School District of Shorewood and the Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Department has always taken threatening weather seriously, this past summer, we have taken the next step by becoming a StormReady速 district, the first public school district in the state to obtain such a designation. This designation by the National Weather Service comes after months of developing and reviewing the procedures used by the district to keep students, staff and patrons safe when weather threatens our community. This process helped the district identify more threats to personal safety while using district facilities, develop tools to assist in threat awareness, create protocols to react to and communicate weather related threats. The district also developed a partnership with the National Weather Service to make sure our tools and procedures are providing the highest measure of safety for those we serve. We are proud of this designation. We hope the residents of Shorewood are proud of their School District and Recreation Department as well.

This Activity Guide Cover is the first product of a new Graphic Design Club at Shorewood High School. Our aim is to work with clients in real world settings. In its earliest form, our club is made up of Jack Hietpas, Levi Taylor, and Nick Shaffer; advised by graphic design teacher, Jeff Zimpel. We look forward to taking on new talent, as well as many exciting design opportunities throughout the year.

New Available Member Services To ensure every member gets the most out of their experience at SCFC, we’re offering these FREE member services with every membership. Take advantage of one or all of the available member services which include; orientation of the equipment to ensure that everyone is confident with the machines and where to start. In addition, find out more about your health with a health assessment to learn your risk factors by knowing your weight, body fat, and measurements. This can be the stepping stone to get a further look into your goals and how the SCFC staff can help you achieve them. Also, enjoy a new healthy recipe every week available on our bulletin board for you to take home. We highly recommended you take advantage of these great member services because we want you to succeed!

Benefits of Strength Training Strength training can burn just as much, if not more, fat than cardio. It increases your metabolism for a longer period of time (up to 38 hours after working out) than cardio. Too much cardio can actually decrease your metabolism. Strength training reduces depression symptoms, fights osteoporosis, lowers your risk of diabetes, reduces back pain, improves your balance, boosts self-esteem, and will help you sleep better. It also strengthens your immune system, heart, joints, and other internal organs. Start implementing strength training into your life as soon as possible, so you can experience all these benefits! If you are unsure how to use free weights or how to lift, trainers are a great way to help you get started.

Why a Personal Trainer is Valuable to Everyone Personal trainers ensure that you’re doing everything safely and with correct form to avoid injuries. Having a trainer will also help guide you by keeping you accountable and motivated. They do this by switching up your daily routine with exercises and circuits you may have never thought of prior to working with them. This prevents the body from plateauing while boosting your metabolism. This will lead to maximum results in minimal time with a program designed specifically for you.

Personal Training

Payment plans are available on packages of twelve or more. In addition, bring a friend to your workout once for free and if they purchase a package of twelve or more you’ll both get one free session! We are also offering a 45 minute session to learn proper form and exercises on the new TRX suspension trainers and the GHD machine for only $25.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS American Idiot

by

Green Day - Shorewood High School’s Rock Opera

Based on the winner of the 2005 Grammy Award Winning Album. Green Day’s powerhouse album is brought to life in this electric-rock musical of youthful disillusion. American Idiot is a two-time Tony Award-winning hit musical based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum album. American Idiot boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. An energy-fueled rock opera, American Idiot, features little dialogue and instead relies on the lyrics from Green Day’s groundbreaking album to execute the story line. American Idiot is for mature audiences. Performances: February 4, 5, & 6 in the SHS Auditorium To order tickets or for additional information about the performances, please call the Box Office at (414) 963-6940 or go to the website at: www.shorewooddrama.org.

10

South Pacific - Shorewood High School’s Musical Winner of the 1950 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Musical. Set in an island paradise during World War II, two parallel love stories are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. The show features wonderful songs that many people will know, such as “Younger Than Springtime,” “There is Nothing Like a Dame,” “I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Outta My Hair,” and “Some Enchanted Evening.” Performances: May 19, 20 & 21 in the SHS Auditorium To order tickets or for additional information about the performances, please call the Box Office at (414) 963-6940 or go to the website at: www.shorewooddrama.org.
