One Whole School

The aims of our Junior School are to provide an ambitious educational programme for all our students and to enable each one to develop academic confidence and independence in his or her learning. Our Junior School is a friendly and warm place for boys and girls aged 4 to I I (Reception - Year 6). We follow a British curriculum and all teaching (except for Korean, Mandarin and other languages) is in English. The students chat in English in the playgrounds and in all school based activities. An easy bilingualism before the move to Senior School is our aim for every child.

The class sizes remain small to ensure quality interaction between students and teachers. Within this supportive community the students are absorbed into the fun and adventure of learning. Currently we have over 500 students, from Korea and also a proportion who are international students from China. Japan, UK. and New Zealand. Our highest priority is to maintain a team of outstanding teachers who will inspire and encourage each student.

Students in the Junior School follow a curriculum based on that of NLCS UK. This is an academically ambitious programme of learning where our teachers create an environment in which children are able to actively discover new skills, knowledge and understanding.

We aim to develop internationally-minded young people with an understanding of their responsibility to each other and the wider community.

We divide the Junior School into First and Lower Schools. This allows us to focus on each crucial stage. We ensure that each child is supported in all academic areas and we pay particular attention to English language skills. We believe that the correct guidance and teaching early on sows the seeds for future academic success.

The First School benefits from small class sizes, large classrooms with distinct learning areas and devoted teachers, each with their own Learning Assistants.

Students move seamlessly from First School up to Lower School. There, they build upon all they have learned in the early years. They start to become more independent in their learning and they benefit from the support of a class teacher and also from individual subject teachers.

Social and pastoral support is also crucial. We aim to develop each child to be the best that they can be in all areas. Every child in the Junior School, from years 3 - 6 belongs to a house, just as they do in the Senior School. As part of a house team, students learn to work with one another, supporting and leading different ages. There are ample opportunities to become a student leader and also to engage with sports, service, the arts and much more.
