Christ is the worlds true light
Christ is the world’s true light, its captain of salvation, the daystar clear and bright of every race and nation; new life, new hope awakes, where people own his sway: from bondage freedom breaks, and night is turned to day. In Christ all races meet, their ancient feuds forgetting, the whole round world complete, from sunrise to its setting; when Christ is throned as Lord, we shall forsake our fear, to ploughshare beat the sword, to pruning-hook the spear. One Lord, in one great name unite us all who own you; cast out our pride and shame
that hinder to enthrone you; the world has waited long, has travelled long in pain: come, heal its ancient wrong, come, Prince of Peace, and reign. Children leave for Kingz Kidz Reading: Ephesians 5:8-20 page 1176 Choir Anthem: Reading: John 9:1 -12 page 1075 The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want; He makes me lie in pastures green. He leads me by the still, still waters, His goodness restores my soul. And I will trust in You alone, And I will trust in You alone, For Your endless mercy follows me, Your goodness will lead me home. He guides my ways in righteousness, And He anoints my head with oil, And my cup, it overflows with joy, I feast on His pure delights. And I will trust in You alone, And though I walk the darkest path, I will not fear the evil one, For You are with me, and Your rod and staff Are the comfort I need to know. And I will trust in You alone, Prayer of Intercession Hymn 118
Womb of life and source of being
Womb of life and source of being, home of every restless heart, in your arms the worlds awakened; you have loved us from the start. We, your children, gather round you at the table you prepare. Sharing stories, tears, and laughter, we are nurtured by your care. Word in flesh, our brother Jesus,
born to bring us second birth, you have come to stand beside us, knowing weakness, knowing earth. Priest who shares our human struggles, Life of life and Death of death, risen Christ, come stand among us, send the Spirit by your breath. Brooding Spirit, move among us; be our partner, be our friend. When our memory fails, remind us whose we are, what we intend. Labour with us, aid the birthing of the new world yet to be, free from status and division, free for love and unity. Sermon Offering (Hymn 810 Sing to the Lord of heaven and earth) Prayer of dedication asking God’s blessing on our offering Hymn 286
Tell out my soul
Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord! Unnumbered blessings, give my spirit voice; tender to me the promise of his word; in God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his name! Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done; his mercy sure, from age to age the same; his holy Name, the Lord, the Mighty One. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his might! Powers and dominions lay their glory by. Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight, the hungry fed, the humble lifted high. Tell out, my soul, the glories of his word!
Firm is his promise, and his mercy sure. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord to children's children and for evermore! Benediction
Church News and Activities As a Church we need to stick to the advice to be safe in these uncertain and anxious times. As a congregation we know how to love our neighbour well. Many people are anxious and a reassuring phone call and an offer to pray might be very much appreciated. We have a large number of members in our congregation who will need to remain at home for long periods of time. Now is a good time to be thinking proactively about who in the church might need extra help should they decide or be required to self-isolate. Can you shop for more vulnerable members of our congregation, when you shop for yourself? People who rely on extra support to receive essential food and resources may find the next few months particularly challenging. Most folk are connected to one another by social media and have the devices to so. People of an older generation in our church have no such thing. Let’s do the old-fashioned things and give them a call on the telephone or drop a card or note through the letter box keeping in mind the need for social distancing at this time. I encourage you to contact folk regularly over these coming weeks. If you learn of anything that would be helpful for me to make further contact then please let me know in confidence. We will provide a worship service each Sunday in the Sanctuary and live stream on line. We do know it works well although some people have issues with their devices. The website front page has the link highlighted to make it easier to log on. Please use the website page to log in - it works. Please also share this widely. For Kingz Kidz and Trekkers I have encouraged Amy and Rachel to connect through social media and to encourage ‘Virtual Kingz Kidz’ and Trekkers activity on line. This is new for us so please be patient and we’ll see how this develops. There is absolutely no doubt the weeks ahead will be challenging for all of us. Lets remain calm and provide a confident lead to our town and community by doing what we do best - being church in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ within the constraints that we will be put under. We have suspended the drop in at the Halls but will provide food for those we regularly look after. It is essential that we continue our donations of food stuffs regularly to maintain good supply. These can be dropped of at the church on the doors open days between 12.00noon and 2.00pm.
Christians believe that God created us for life together and that the Christian life is most faithfully and joyfully lived in the community of faith that is the church. While it is possible to live faithfully as a Christian in isolation, the community of faith sustains, nourishes and challenges us to greater and steadier faithfulness to Jesus Christ. We are trying to follow the guidance and advice available and follow best practice. We need to be sensible and put one another’s health at the forefront of our planning. Please keep an eye on the church’s website or facebook page for more information. Should you need to make contact with the church please call me 01563 525416 If you would be able to assist in supporting the more elderly members of our congregation, the vulnerable or isolated over the next months please do offer your help. To be the church is, for most of us, to be part of a community of Christians we just have to get used to doing that in a different way in this time ahead. Please keep in touch regularly with me. With prayerful good wishes Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy in this time of uncertainty and distress. Sustain and support the anxious and fearful, and lift up all who are brought low; that we may rejoice in your comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from your love in Christ Jesus our Lord. You taught us to love our neighbour, and to care for those in need as if we were caring for you. In this time of anxiety, give us strength to comfort the fearful, to tend the sick, and to assure the isolated of our love, and your love, for your name’s sake. Amen. Let's get through this together trusting in prayer and practical and sensible action.
