Welcome A very warm welcome to our Advent worship this morning from all at New Laigh Kirk. Worship will be led by our Student Assistant Steven Owens and we are delighted you are able to join us online today and hope you enjoy worshipping with us through your online connection. This order of service is posted to help you with the live stream. Please ensure you log on through the New Laigh Kirk Website http://www.nlk.church/ and click the button watch live Sunday 11.00am. Please note, I will offer a short celebration of the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper after the main service. If you wish to join me at home please provide for yourself and those sharing with you a small piece of bread and small glass of wine or fruit juice that you may take during this service. Whilst not physically together to communally share this Holy meal the Spirit unites us to one another as an invisible grace. May God richly bless you sharing with us during this Advent Season. Order of Service Call to Worship Hymn: 274 Comfort, Comfort now my people Comfort, comfort now my people; tell of peace!"" so says our God. Comfort those who sit in darkness mourning under sorrow's load. To God's people now proclaim that God's pardon waits for them! Tell them that their war is over; God will reign in peace forever! For the herald's voice is crying in the desert far and near, calling us to true repentance since the Kingdom now is here. Oh, that warning cry obey! Now prepare for God a way!
Let the valleys rise to meet him, and the hills bow down to greet him! Straight shall be what long was crooked, and the rougher places plain! Let your hearts be true and humble, as befits his holy reign! For the glory of the Lord now on earth is shed abroad, and all flesh shall see the token that God's word is never broken. Prayer Light the second Advent candle We light a candle for hope and our world that’s longing for hope We light a candle for hope and our world that’s longing for hope Holy One, shine with the fire of our lives, oh We light a candle for hope and our world that’s longing for hope. Hymn Hail to the Lord’s Anointed Hail to the Lord’s anointed Great David’s greater Son. Hail in the time appointed His reign on earth begun He comes to break oppression, To set the captive free, To take away transgression And rule in equity. He comes with succour speedy To those who suffer wrong, To help the poor and needy and bid the weak be strong. To give them songs for sighing Their darkness turn to light
Whose souls, condemned and dying Were precious in his sight. He shall come down like showers Upon the fruitful earth And love, joy, hope, like flowers Spring in his path to birth. Before him, on the mountains Shall peace, the herald, go And righteousness, in fountains From hill to valley flow. Kings shall fall down before him And gold and incense bring. All nations shall adore him His praise all people sing. To him shall prayer unceasing And daily vows ascend; His kingdom still increasing A kingdom without end. O’er every foe victorious He on his throne shall rest; From age to age more glorious All blessing and all-blessed. The tide of time shall never His covenant remove. His Name shall stand forever That Name to us is Love.
