You will see that there are many people of all ages seeking to serve within New Laigh Kirk as well as the wider community. As part of the family of God and gifted with many and varying talents, we try to use these to deepen our faith, care for each other, and to spread into our town and parish the good news of God’s love for all. Intimations Worship on Communion Sunday, 4th November will be conducted by the Minister beginning at 11.00am and 2.00pm. The Kirk Session meet prior to the service at 10.40am in the Session Room. Duty elders serving communion should meet at 9.50am in the church. All Age Kingz Kidz event will take place in the halls from 10.45am to 12.05pm. NLK FairTrade Group will be taking orders (cash at time of ordering, please) for 'Real Advent Calendars' after the service TODAY. The Advent Calendars, (due to benefitting from a bulk discount, NLK FairTrade Group are able to offer these at a price of ÂŁ3.66 each) contain FairTrade milk chocolates, plus a mini Christmas Story Booklet. Elders should collect copies of the November Magazine from their pigeonholes. Fellowship of Kilmarnock Churches Service TONIGHT at 7.00pm at St John's Church, Onthank. The theme of this service will be Christian social responsibility. It will include contributions from organisers of EACHa (East Ayrshire Homelessness Action), Broken Chains and Faith in Throughcare. What is the point of life? What happens when we die? Is forgiveness possible? What relevance does Jesus have for our lives today? Looking for answers? Then try Alpha! New Laigh Kirk is running a six week Alpha Course at The Coffee Press, Bank Place, which continues on Monday, 29th October at 7.00pm. Guild will meet on Monday, 29th October at 7.15pm in lower hall. NLK Kilmarnock Community Choir Project for all singers aged 16 years or over will meet on Tuesday, 30th October at 7.00pm in the church. Rainbows meet from 6.00pm to 7.00pm in upper hall and Brownies from 6.30pm to 8.00pm in lower hall on Wednesday, 31st October. Girl Guides will meet on Wednesday, 31st October at 7.30pm in upper hall. 4th/5th Kilmarnock Boys' Brigade will meet on Friday, 2nd November, Anchor boys: 6.00pm at St Andrew's and St Marnock's halls, Junior Section: 7.00pm at St Andrew's and St Marnock's halls, Company section: 7.00pm at New Laigh Kirk halls. Together We Pray - Church of Scotland National Day of Prayer, Saturday, 3rd November. There will be a short time of worship and prayer here in the church at 1.30pm as we join with other church members all over Scotland to pray for the church locally and nationally. Do come and join us - it will only be for about 15 minutes! Highlights Klub will meet on Monday, 5th November at 8.00pm in upper hall. Cocktails Evening. Guild of Friendship will meet on Thursday, 8th November at 2.00pm in lower hall. 75th birthday party with Mr Richard Ross. As part of the commemoration of the Centenary of the Armistice which ended the First World War, New Laigh Kirk intends to host a display of photographs - in the Church's coffee corner - of local people involved in the war. If anyone has a photograph of any family member/friend who took part in the war, we would be most grateful if they would lend it to us until the end of November. We promise to take good care of all photographs received and to return them to the donors. Any photos that are no larger than A4 size will be placed in a plastic folder for protection. Photographs, accompanied by a paragraph (maximum length 100 words) about the individual involved/event should be placed in an envelope
marked 'World War I photographs' and handed to either Derek I'Anson, Ellen Stewart or Margaret Patterson by Sunday, 28th October at the very latest. THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE PERSON SUPPLYING THE PHOTOS should be written in pencil on the back of each photo. New Laigh Kirk will host a Veterans’ Service marking the Centenary of the First World War Armistice which will be held in the church on Sunday, 11th November at 2.00pm. Veterans, both regular and territorial, and their families are being invited to attend, as are personnel currently serving. An invitation is also being extended to veterans and service personnel from the Merchant Navy, Land Army, Home Guard and other auxiliary services and to staff from emergency services and organisations which support veterans, service personnel and their families along with local dignatories. We are asking members of New Laigh Kirk to attend, whether or not they have any forces connection, to both welcome our visitors and to show support for our Veterans and serving forces. 2019 subscriptions for Life and Work are now due at a cost of £33.60 this year. This sum should reach Stephen Brown by Sunday, 11th November. On the night of Saturday, 17th November there will be a Sportsman’s Gentleman’s dinner in the church halls. Ray Montgomerie and Rev. Neil Urquhart will be our speakers with a fully catered 2 course meal. Tickets are £20 per person. Some more helpers are required to join the Audiovisual Team on Sundays and during the week in order to keep the system operating. Full training will be provided. If you are interested in joining the team, please speak to Helen Colman. If you have any used postage stamps or unwanted postcards with stamps attached, please give them to Esther Douglas as she is collecting for charities. Church Open and Welcome on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12noon to 2.00pm. We urgently require a pool of volunteers, especially men, to welcome the visitors on a rota basis. We are particularly short of volunteers on Wednesdays. If you could help even occasionally, it would be most appreciated. Please speak to Helen Colman. Remember that the more volunteers there are, the less often you will be on duty! Open Doors. New Laigh Kirk will be opening its doors to all on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12noon to 2.00pm. The Church will be open for those who want to come for a period of solitude or reflection; to see the stained glass windows from the inside; or to find out some of the history of the church and town.
