Summer Club meeting: If you have already volunteered or are willing to be involved in Summer Club in any way, we will meet to update and plan on Sunday, 16th July at 12.10pm in lower hall for 30 minutes. If you have family or friends' children who may like to attend, please invite them to Summer Club. The Walking Group's weekend outing for July (weather permitting) will be a coastal walk on Sunday, 23rd July to Seamill, extended to Portencross for those wishing a longer walk. Meet at 2.00pm at the small car park on the beach side, near to the junction with the road from West Kilbride. The car park may be very busy, but parking is permitted on the grass verge. Anyone requiring or offering transport, please contact Ellen Stewart.
A First Aid training course has been organised for Friday, 8th September in the halls. This training is particularly for anyone who would like to be included on the rota as First Aider in the church on Sundays. The cost of the course will be met by the church. If you would like to attend, please speak to Derek I'Anson or Janice Grant before the end of July. A fundraising musical evening will be held in aid of the people of Arua Uganda on Saturday, 5th August from 7.00pm to 9.30pm in Kay Park Parish Church. Cost is £3 and can be paid at the door. A small team will be going out there for four weeks in November and will be self-funding. Ken Stewart is Chair of the Avenue Childcare Services in Tourhill Road in the North West of Kilmarnock, a small local charity that provides childcare for babies and toddlers up to the age of three years. The children are mainly referred by the Health Board or Social Services and many have a chaotic home life. He is asking that if you shop at Tesco, you should consider putting the little blue token which you receive at the checkout into the “Avenue Childcare” section of the Tesco charity box. The charity with the most tokens at the end of the month will receive £4,000. Money will be spent on outdoor play equipment and education. Ken, Ellen and Anne McNair got involved with Avenue Childcare through Outreach work that NLK has been doing in North West Kilmarnock and Karen Kerr is Deputy Nursery Manager. Church Open and Welcome on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12noon to 2.00pm. We urgently require a pool of volunteers, especially men, to welcome the visitors on a rota basis. Please speak to Helen Colman. Remember that the more volunteers there are, the less often you will be on duty! Open Doors. New Laigh Kirk will be opening its doors to all on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12noon to 2.00pm. The Church will be open for those who want to come for a period of solitude or reflection; to see the newly restored stained glass windows from the inside; or to find out some of the history of the church and town. Foodbank. Donations of non-perishable foods should be placed in the blue bin in the vestibule. Particularly welcome just now are UHT milk, tinned fruit, rice pudding, meat and vegetables.
