BRANDING
TEAM EFFORT CAMP WEST
TEAMeffort Original Brand
ABOUT TEAM EFFORT TEAM effort is a non-profit mission organization that has created a youth community service outreach program. Youth groups from churches all over the United States can sign up for a week in the summer to travel to one of the twenty-three camp locations. During the week, campers participate community service tasks often associated with home repairs and humanitarian efforts. Camps provide facilities to lodge, dine, socialize, and worship. Staff members lead youth groups each week to ensure a religious journey and growing experience throughout the week. Chapel takes place every night with praise and worship and a short service. Staff members are given weekends off to intermingle with the community of their camp location and build lasting meaningful relationships.
TEAM effort is a branded company, in a very rustic concept that speaks to their humility to their faith. When considering a re-branding, it was important to implement the same understated natural concept. The Camp West brand is a rough cut sign, custom created by Earnest Thomson, that was inspired by the TEAM effort Eureka Springs camp location chapel sign. The sign was created and hung in 2014 by Gerald Baker, a local contract worker. The original was cut of scrap wood with a hand saw.

MISSION STATMENT “TEAM effort is a non-profit, inter-denominational Christian youth mission organization dedicated to providing opportunities for both youth and adult leaders to reach out to others through Christian service and live out a passion for God, in the context of “putting our faith into action.” DESIGN CONCEPT STATEMENT The design of Camp West for TEAM effort is to embrace the New Mexico Culture in Angel Fire, NM. The spaces to be designed include reception lobby, café lounge, staff offices, game room, camp store, dining hall, commercial kitchen, chapel, staff lodging, and camper lodging. The design is required to consider climate and terrain in both material selection and aesthetic. The materials are locally sourced when possible and are applicable to the LEED accreditation process. Facilities are designed for the public but specifically with youth based design in mind. Public areas will be open year round for community use which requires the material selection to accommodate both weather fluctuations. In the Camp West location, the overall style is a modern eclecticism with use of natural materials and occasional usage of color.

LOCATION Angel Fire, New Mexico
TEAM effort Camp Locations
The TEAM effort mission camps are mainly located along the Eastern shore of the United States, with multiple locations in several eastern states. There is a need in these communities which has led to a camp location for youth to choose from. Often these areas are also located near a major city or adventurous activities to gain popularity for that location. Only recently the organization has began to spread their work westward. With their base location in Jacksonville, Florida it can be difficult to manage those further west locations. These camps often have to work together because of their small size and inability to obtain resources. Building a second base location would increase western expansion. New Mexico is an ideal state location for the existing western camps. The state is known for its high poverty rate along with a few of its neighboring states. There is a need for what the TEAM effort organization does in these areas. The camp would be located in the Colifax area near Angel Fire. The city is well off and safe in comparison to its neighboring counties that could hold many potential volunteer needed jobs. The base location would then encourage an increase in western locations in towns such as Blackwater, the highest poverty stricken town in the United States. Reaching areas such as these not only benefit the local communities but gives the volunteering youth a sense of purpose and self growth by helping others. b2

RESEARCH BASED DESIGN YOUTH There is a large percentage of the national average teen community that is considered “at risk.” This term defines young adults from ages twelve to eighteen that are at a potential risk of having outside factors affect their character and event their situation. These situations can range from home abuse to lack of participation in the community. The age range is at a crucial turning point in life and having “at risk” potential can severely effect how a teen will transition into an adult. COMMUNITY There is a growing rate of poverty in the United States. The term poverty often brings severe situations to mind but the umbrella is larger than the extreme cases. There are homes all over the United States in need of a new roof, of new siding, or even of just a helping hand. The number of city centers such as parks, public libraries, and life centers are become less and less, effecting community life in a predominant way. ACTION Youth relates directly with community in a big way. There are different facilities that cater directly to certain age groups such as day cares for toddlers or aging in place facilities for the elderly. Teens are often a neglected age group with lack of facilities to construct beneficial activity. This often leaves room for questionable behavior in unprotected places. An example would be movie theaters, subway stations, or on city corners. The youth needs community based centers for encouraged interaction and healthy fun. This will result in positive youth development and eventually a better community.

WHAT STUDIES HAVE TO SAY -
Studies have examined that youth development starts with taking part in community decision making and civic activism Community service can improve a teens moral and evoke a desire to improve their own environment Decision making often boosts future abilities to work in teams, produce original ideas, communicate, and take on responsibilities Youth should not be scolded for experiencing fun, a big part of youth development has to do with creativity and heightened hormones Loitering has a negative meaning associated with it but youth should be encouraged to spend time amongst one another Spaces should be provided for youth to take part in fun such as skate parks, parkour courses, sport fields, and even legal graffiti walls
