Welcome
to the 57th Annual
CASTROVILLE ARTICHOKE FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL The globe-shaped artichoke is the star of the show and we’re here to share our love for all things “thistle!” But that’s not all – there’s food and fun for young and old. Don’t be shy; savor the flavors of the Monterey Peninsula and learn why our hearts are sold on artichokes! Artichokes and Monterey County: a Partnership of Excellence
Since 1922, artichokes have found a home in the cool, gray weather of Monterey County, making it the pre-eminent producer of artichokes in the United States, the official vegetable of both Monterey County and the state of California. In 1948, Marilyn Monroe was named the first California Artichoke Queen and the Castroville Artichoke Festival began in 1959, making it one of the longest continuous festivals celebrating a vegetable in the United States. As the primary source of funding for many local non-profit groups, the Festival has contributed more than $1,000,000 to the larger Castroville community, in the past twenty years. FOOD: Freshly harvested Ocean Mist Farms artichokes fried, sautéed, grilled, marinated, pickled, fresh, in bread, cupcakes, cookies, candy, and puréed in soup. If you can dream it, chances are you can find it at our food specialty booths. Near Main Gate 5, see map inside. OCEAN MIST FARMS
