How to Create Event Posters with Canva 1. Open Canva. Under “Create a design”,find “Poster” and click on it.

2. Choose a free Layout from the left column.

3. Upload a photo from a file or saved to your desktop.

4. Choose the image. You’ll see it appear in the workspace & a circle will fill up to let you know that it’s completed loaded.

5. Drag & drop the image into your workspace.

6. Click on the text provided. There are lots of options provided to change the font, color, size, bold, italic, all capitals, text spacing. You can also start from scratch or use free text combinations provided using the left column. For the most eye-catching poster, choose one or two similar fonts in one doc and one consistent color. Too many fonts, colors, bold, italics...confuses the eye of your reader.

7. The workspace provides indicators to line up your text. Elements are provided (use sparingly). You can also rotate text. Backgrounds are available as well.

8. Change the design title to make it your own.

9. Choose your Download File Type. Depending on how you’re using the document & your printer quality, you may need to experiment with the type of file you want to download. My printer works well with the PDF - Standard Type.

10. On my color printer, I don’t have the ability to make a true 16.5 x 23.38 inch (42x59.4 cm) poster. I opt to make a letter-sized poster. You can use your design and have your poster professionally made, if you don’t have poster-sized paper capablities.

Note: This file is very large (20 MB), so emailing the download isn’t efficient. Canva gives you the option to email a link to the doc in Canva. You can also post it on Facebook or Twitter. To save your design, click on “File” next to the Canva logo on the top left and save your work. The “Make Public” toggle isn’t necessary for your intended readers to see your poster. Thank you.
