Give a year-end gift and receive a tax break This season, give a gift that gives back - literally! By making a year-end gift, youll enjoy not only the satisfaction that comes from supporting a cause that’s close to your heart, but also a tax break when you itemize deductions on your federal income tax return. Here are four popular ways to support Girl Scouts: • Cash. Cash is the easiest way to make a difference. To document a cash gift of $250 or more for tax benefit purposes, please keep the written gift acknowledgement you receive from us. • Appreciated stock. When you donate stock that has grown in value, you eliminate capital gains tax you have paid had you sold it. If you have held the stock for more than one year, your gift will be deductible at its full, fair market value. • Life insurance. A life insurance policy is a year-end gift you may not have considered. For your donation to qualify as a deductible gift, Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails must become the policy owner. For most types of insurance policies, your tax deduction is usually the cost basis or the fair market value of the policy, whichever is less. • Personal Property. Perhaps you have artwork or other collectibles that you would like to give to Girl Scouts. Please contact us sowe can help you determine if your gift will help us further our missiong. Donations in Action Thanks to people like you, we raised almost $300,00 this year to support our mission of creating girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Through these funds special programs, our two beautiful camps and financial assistance for girls in need were supported: • A new Sky Shed and telescope at Rancho del Chaparral • Creating a power tool and wood-working space at Camp Elliott Barker • Repairs and upgrades to camp structures, roads, equipment and plumbing • 44 financial aid packages for girls to attend camp • Our horses were fed all summer and new equipment purchased • Special events and programs like G.I.R.L. Extravaganza, Boss Girls, Innovate & Create, Enchanted Evening, Cookie Palooza, NASA Space Badge Pilot Program, and the Volunteer and Donor Appreciation Luncheon

New Sky Shed at Rancho We are so excited to announce the building of a sky shed at Rancho del Chaparral. It all started with the generous donation of a state-of-the-art telescope from Stephanie Eagle. Her fellow Rancho alumnae, the Wild Women, pitched in and donated funds to build the shed with a retractable roof. With additional funding from NASA, we were able to complete the project. The sky shed will be up and running for campers to experience astronomy next summer.
Your gift of camp empowers girls! This summer, nearly 1,000 local girls attended Girl Scout camp - may of them receiving some form of financial assistance. For many campers, the Girl Scout Cookie Program was their ticket to outdoor adventures: This summer we faced several unanticipated challenges. As many of you heard we were forced to close Rancho del Chaparral for the summer due to the extremely high risk of wildfires. We’re so thankful to the firefighters and forest service personnel for all of the work that they did to inform us before the start of the summer and the extra work that they did during the summer to preserve the Santa Fe National Forest as best as they could. Many “Rancho girls” got to experience Camp Elliott Barker for the first time this summer! Elliott Barker had an amazing run, but just like the camp staff running on the last of their energy, our wells ran out of water. Even with all of the environmental challenges, homesickness (staff and campers alike), and cramped living quarters, we can proudly say we had a wonderful summer at camp! Through our outdoor programs, girls seek challenges, take on community problem-solving, develop positive Girl Scout values and gain a deeper sense of self. We received a very generous planned gift of $10,000 from a donor who wished to remain anonymous. This gift will be used to provide camp scholarships.
