Our Mission Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Girl Scout Promise On my honor, I will try: To serve God* and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
Girl Scout Law I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Hi from the editor!
As we began planning for the 20192020 Girl Scout year, we realized it was the ideal time to reintroduce a Program Guide to help our members plan their year and help new members discover everything Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails has to offer. At Girl Scouts, everything we do is designed with our girls in mind. Girl Scouts develop many of their leadership skills through the activities outlined in this book — participating in challenging outdoor adventures, STEM exploration, discovering their inner entrepreneaur and building life skills. Our 2019-2020 Program & Event Guide, Trails of Discovery, is full of amazing programs, trainings and opportunities. * Members may substitute for the word God in accordance with their own spiritual beliefs.

At Girl Scouts, your girl will prepare for a lifetime of leadership, success, and adventure in a safe, no-limits place designed for and by girls! How? Through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience—a collection of engaging, challenging, and fun activities like earning badges, going on awesome trips, selling cookies, exploring science, getting outdoors, and doing community service projects.
Did you know?
Girls can attend program events without their troop! Sometimes there may be an event she really wants to attend but her troop isn’t going. That doesn’t mean she has to miss out! We offer a wide variety of activities for girls to explore their own interests. Plus, she’ll make new friends! Some events may require that an adult attend, others may require that adult be registered and background checked. See online event listing for full details.
At Girl Scouts, she’ll get to lead her own adventure (it’s her world!) and team up with other girls in an all-girl environment to choose the exciting, hands-on activities that interest her most. Along the way, she’ll gain important skills in four areas that form the foundation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Outdoors Life Skills Entrepreneurship

Girl Scouts teaches skills that last a lifetime! The Girl Scout MagNut and Cookie Programs give girls a taste of entrepreneurship. Girls learn essential life skills, set impressive goals, and use their earnings to go on epic adventures and make the world a better place! Entrepreneurship programs focus on leadership, collaboration and explorations of personal values through discovering, connecting and taking action. Skills gained in the Girl Scouts Entrepreneurship Programs influence later success. More than half (57%) of Girl Scout Alumnae in business say the Cookie Program gave them the skills they possess today, such as money management, goal setting and public speaking. As entrepreneurs, girls gain five skills and work as a team to accomplish goals and solve problems:
The MagNut Program begins September 27! Discover more at nmgirlscouts.org/magnut
GOAL SETTING Girls set goals and, with their troop or families, create a plan to reach them. DECISION MAKING Individual Girl Scouts and their troops make their own business decisions. Girls decide how to market their business and what to do with their earnings. MONEY MANAGEMENT Girls develop a budget, take orders, and handle customers’ money. PEOPLE SKILLS Girls learn how to talk (and listen!) to their customers, as well as how to work as a team with other girls. BUSINESS ETHICS Girls act honestly and responsibly during every step of the program.

Badge vs. Patch What’s the difference? Badges are official symbols that indicate an increase in knowledge or skill in a particular subject. Badge activities are developed more for introducing girls to new experiences through developing specific skills. Badge skills build on each other as girls grow in Girl Scouting. The badges at each level help a girl develop competence and confidence in each skill area that she will build upon at the next Girl Scout level. Badges can be earned at every age level and are placed on the front of the sash or vest.
Patches, sometimes called fun patches, are emblems signifying participation in a Girl Scout activity, event or other patch-specific program. Patches are placed on the back of the sash or vest. Think of them as a scrapbook of your Girl Scout experience.
