What is the cookie program? The Council Product Program Department focuses on moneyearning activities that help sustain both our Council and troops through two annual programs – the fall MagNut program and the spring Cookie program. Like the MagNut program, the Cookie program teaches financial literacy skills like decision making, people skills, goal setting, business ethics, money management and how to be an entrepreneur. By participating in the Cookie program, troops can earn proceeds to offset either all or a large part of the cost of Girl Scout activities and relieve parents of this obligation too!

wow the world! Our theme for this cookie season is Wow the World because when girls participate in the cookie program, they are building lifelong skills and Wowing the world with their successes. The theme animal, Lillie the butterfly, is named in honor of our 2019 Top Cookie Seller, Lillie, from Troop 218 in Rio Rancho. Lillie sold 3,750 boxes of cookies!

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS Girls participating in the Cookie Program must be registered Girl Scouts and have a product permission form on file prior to the start of the sale. Participating girls must also be free and clear of debt to council.

Cookie Entrepreneur Family Pin The new Cookie Entrepreneur Family pin enables families to support girls as they learn to think like entrepreneurs through the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Each Girl Scout grade level has its own set of requirements to help families guide their Girl Scout as she runs her own cookie business year after year. Girls can earn all 13 pins in the collection—one unique pin for every year they participate.

three ways to sell You can participate in the Cookie Program through: • ONLINE: Send an email link to your online store to friends and family offering options to order cookies and have them shipped or delivered by you! • IN PERSON: Visit your friends, family and neighbors to sell cookies that you have in hand! • BOOTHS: Get together with your troop to sell cookies in front of grocery stores and other local businesses.

Girl Scout Safety

Parents

Your safety is of utmost importance. Please remember the following when selling in person: • Wear your Girl Scout vest, pins or a Girl Scout t-shirt when selling to identify you as a Girl Scout. • Only visit people you know- neighbors, family and friends. • Never sell alone - always have an adult with you. • Do not go out after dark. • Never, for any reason, approach a parked automobile. • Never enter a home when asking for orders. If invited to go in, politely refuse and explain that it is against Girl Scout safety rules for you to go into anyone’s home. • Never carry large amounts of cash. • Always be aware of strange animals You play a very important role in helping your girls achieve success! In addition to all your love, support and inspiration, there are some specific responsibilities you’ll need to assume to ensure your girl’s Cookie sale is a success: Ɩ Attend her troop’s Cookie Program training; sign and return the parent permission form to the troop. This must be submitted before she begins selling. Ɩ Review the Cookie Program information together so that she understands it and help her to set her sales goals. Ɩ Help her set up her Online Store. Show an interest in her efforts, help her to think of prospective customers and help her practice her “sales pitch”. Ɩ Help her to meet her deadlines by taking orders no earlier than February 10 and submit her orders by the dates set by her troop. Ɩ Collect money for all cookies and turn it in to your Troop Cookie Chair once a week. Ɩ Accept financial responsibility for all products and money received. Remember that products cannot be returned to the troop or council once signed for. Ɩ Failure to account for money and products received will be considered misappropriation of funds and will result in a forfeit of rewards earned. Remember, the Cookie Program helps Girl Scouts learn honesty and fairness. Lead by example.

DIGITAL COOKIE ONLINE STORE (DOC) Your online store allows you to have your own e-commerce store where your customers can shop and pay for cookies online! You can manage your business online with tools to: • Set goals • Compile a Contact List of names, phone numbers and email addresses • Send a digital link to customers where cookies can be paid for online with the option to have them shipped or even delivered by YOU! Each girl with an email on file with council will receive a link to register for her online store once she has been confirmed that she is a registered Girl Scout and submitted a product permission form to council. If you or your parent do not receive the email, you can visit our Product Sales page on our council website and Click on the Digital Cookie logo to register.

DIGITAL COOKIE APP Girls must first register (it’s free!) for the Digital Order Card online store on the website in order to use the app. Once they have created an account, they can then download the free Digital Cookie Mobile App from the Apple App or Google Play store and login to their account from there. Through the Digital Cookie App, girls can take credit card payments from customers while going door to door or working cookie booths.

ONLINE SAFETY Girls 13 year and older can use their personal social media accounts to promote their sale and share the link to their online store. Girls under the age of 13 and family members may not sell product using their personal email, social media accounts or public sites such as those listed below. All online sales are to be conducted through the online store. Sending email blasts to a work distribution list is not acceptable. Examples of public sites that are not allowed to be used as part of the Cookie Program: • Craigslist • Ebay • Facebook groups • Pinterest • Yard Sale groups, etc. Visit our website to view our new Media Took Kit.

PLACING YOUR ORDER Troops will place an initial troop order on January 22, 2020, before the start of the cookie sale. The sale begins the week that cookies are delivered: February 10 - 14, 2020. Troops have the option to pick up additional cookies from the Cookie Cupboard 4 - 5 times throughout the sale beginning February 17-March 17. If you need additional cookies after the initial order, contact your Troop Cookie Chair for details and cookie availability. On average, girls in our council begin the sale with 70-160 boxes to get them through the first two weeks of the sale. This number may be increased or decreased based on individual goals and the girl’s cookie program experience. Orders must be placed by the case. There are 12 boxes in a case. You and your parent should discuss the number of cases to order by cookie flavor. Below is a breakdown of cookies by flavor preference.

Thin Mint 30%

Samoas 26.5%

Tagalongs 13%

Do-si-dos 11%

Trefoils 8%

New Cookie 6%

S’mores 5%

Toffee Tastic 0.5%

PICKING UP YOUR ORDER Your Troop Leader or Cookie Chair will pick up the troop order the week of February 10, 2020. Once your troop Cookie Chair has picked up the troop order, they will then contact your parent/guardian with the date and time you can pick up your order. Reminders when picking up your order: • Be on time • Count your entire order • Get a signed receipt for the product that you are picking up All Cookies that are signed for and accepted by your parent/guardian on your behalf are your family’s financial responsibility. Product cannot be exchanged or returned to the troop or council, however, damaged product can be exchanged at council for the same product. All Cookies should be stored in a cool, dry, pet-free and smokefree environment at all times.

MONEY TRANSACTIONS Money should be collected upon delivery of cookies. Cash and checks can be accepted as payment for cookies. However; checks should only be accepted by people you know. The council will not reimburse girls or troops for NSF checks or bank fees. Credit card payments can also be made through the Digital Cookie app and Clover credit card system.

GIFT OF CARING The Gift of Caring program gives Girl Scouts the opportunity to give back to our military and local food pantries by allowing customers to donate their purchases. When girls sell 18 or more boxes of cookies, they earn the Gift of Caring Patch.

TROOP GOAL SETTING What does your troop want to do this year? Some examples of things that troops often like to spend their Cookie proceeds on are troop activities, field trips, service projects, books and uniforms for the girls, Bronze/ Silver/Gold Award projects and more. The list is endless! What will it cost to accomplish your troops plans for the year? Make sure you set two types of goals: • Something FUN you would like to try • Something you can do to help others

Did you know..... ....you have the opportunity to earn rewards by selling cookies? Reward levels are displayed on your Goal Getter Order Form. Use these levels to help you set your personal sales goals AND your troop will earn $.75 per box you sell online and in person! Your cookie balance must be paid in full by the troop deadline in order to be eligible for rewards. This helps maintain the spirit of earning rewards through participation. So be sure to turn your money in on time!

GIRL REWARDS SELECTION SHEET Girls get to choose their rewards beginning at the 250 box level. At the levels where Program Vouchers are offered, a girl must choose either the themed reward OR the program voucher. Parents, help your Girl Scout make their reward selections and give them to your Troop Cookie Chair to input into eBudde by March 22. If selections are not made, the gril will receive the themed reward or Girl Experience at that level. Use the following chart to help you set your goals for this years sale, select what you’d prefer to receive at each level, and hand in to your Troop Cookie Chair. All rewards are cumulative.
