Newsletter Advertising- MSConnection A local National MS Society newsletter, MSConnection, is published quarterly reaching more than 4,500 people with MS, their family members, Society members, caregivers, healthcare professionals and donors living in the Hampton Roads region, including the Williamsburg area, the Peninsula, the Southside, Eastern Shore and Northeastern North Carolina. This publication provides information about programs & services, fundraising events, administrative activities and research advancements. All advertising copy is screened by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s staff under the direction of policies created by the Board of Trustees and its committees. Each newsletter has a separate publication schedule. All advertising copy must be submitted for approval by the “ad order submission deadline” in order for it to receive consideration. Copy submitted after the “ad order submission deadline” may not be printed. 2. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will NOT advertise the following: • Editorial articles. • Advertisement for goods, services or programs that make unsubstantiated claims. o Any product (medications, vitamins, devices, or aids) that claim dramatic health benefits, or a specific benefit fro people with MS, will only be accepted if the claim can be substantiated by clinical data from a reputable institution. • Advertisements for goods, services, or programs that are inconsistent with National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s goals and mission. 3. All advertising must be labeled “ADVERTISEMENT” in the top center section. 4. All advertising for educational programs must be clearly identified as being the product of a third-party organization. (e.g. “XXX program is sponsored by XXX, maker of XXX”) 5. Advertisements from pharmaceutical companies promoting specific products must conform to all FDA regulations. 6. Monthly MS Update Grant Opportunities The MS Update is the monthly program activities update that is sent eight times a year during the months that the MSConnection is not distributed. The MS Update reaches approximately 2,500 households that are living with MS in Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. This is a smaller publication in an 8 ½ x 14 tri-fold brochure format that lists key programs & services calendar items and information.

Advertisements for the MSConnection and logos for the MS Update should be submitted using the above requirements via email to robyn.hirsch@nmss.org by the deadline date(s)* above for final approval.
*If a series of advertisements are committed to and paid for in advance, any changes or new advertisements should be submitted by the ad order submission deadline for the desired publication issue or the previously submitted ad will be run. Additional items to be submitted electronically with advertisement/logo: • Any embedded fonts • A completed 2010-2011 Advertising Commitment Form. Note: only one 2010-2011 Advertising Commitment Form needs to be filled out for a series of advertisements or grants, as long as the form indicates a commitment to a series of advertisements or grants.

If payment is made quarterly or monthly, each check should include a notation as to what publication (MSConnection or MS Update) and what issue/month (MSConnection and MS Update, respectively) the check is for. [i.e.- a check for a MS Connection advertisement for the June 2011 issue would read “MS Connection June 2011 advertisement” and a check for a MS Update grant for the April 2011 publication would read “MS Update April 2011 grant]

++Payment may be made quarterly for a commitment of advertisements for the MSConnection or monthly for a commitment of grants; however, payment must be received by the ad order submission deadline and follow the payment submission procedures. If a payment is missed, the missed payment and the remaining payments committed to must be paid in full before another advertisement/grant will be run. Payment (whether paid up front, quarterly or monthly) must be submitted with a copy of the completed 2010-2011 Advertising Commitment Form.
