MS Family Fun Day: Virginia Living Museum Everybody needs to enjoy a little fun time! That’s why we’ve created MS Family Fun Days. Get the family together and have some fun with other families living with MS. Come on out and join us at the Virginia Living Museum Thursday, August 19 from 6-8 pm. You won’t want to miss out on the up close animal encounters we have planned! Cost is $10 per person. Registration Deadline: August 18, 2010. Light refreshments and food will be served. Let’s make a sea of orange; wear your MS orange apparel. About the Virginia Living Museum: (www.thevlm.org, 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601) See fish with no eyes and frogs that change colors. Touch live spider crabs and fossilized dinosaur tracks. It’s all at the Virginia Living Museum, Newport News, where living exhibits depict Virginia’s natural heritage from the mountains to the sea.

Eight Hours to a Lifetime of Relationship Satisfaction The National MS Society, Hampton Roads Chapter invites you and your significant other to join us September 3-4, 2010 at a retreat for couples living with the challenges of MS. You’ll have the opportunity to relax, meet other couples, and strengthen your relationship. Couples who participate in the Eight Hours to a Lifetime of Relationship Satisfaction will learn how to: • Recognize communication danger signs and blocks and understand their style of communication, as well as other styles • Develop a plan for de-escalating arguments and peacefully resolving conflict • Use effective communication skills for listening and speaking and establish a way to solve problems that works for everyone • Manage their relationship proactively • Discuss MS challenges and concerns using these skills This workshop is designed to have couples work together during skill building activities to practice what they learn. Parts of the curriculum offer large and small group discussion, including a split group so each partner can work with his/her peers. Cost is $50 per couple. Cost includes Friday night light hor d’oeuvres, Friday night hotel room, Saturday breakfast, Saturday lunch, and two Eight Hours to a Lifetime of Relationship Satisfaction Workbooks. A limited number of scholarships are available upon request. Please contact the chapter at 757-490-9627 to request a scholarship.
