Another Success to Help End MS!
The 2010 Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Mack Cycle and Fitness was truly a memorable experience. In yet another challenging year, our riders, volunteers, fundraisers and sponsors showed their overwhelming dedication towards finding a cure for MS by raising nearly $1.9 million! The ride started from the Maroone Start/Finish Village at HomesteadMiami Speedway on Saturday, April 17th with a lap around the track, NASCAR style! Cyclists relaxed and celebrated at the new 42Below Village at John Pennekamp Park with food, live music and cocktails provided by 42Below Vodka.
The unfortunate weather caused us to cancel Day 2, but everyone pulled together to help get our riders to the finish line safely. A very special thank you to all participants who joined together in raising awareness and funds to create a world free of MS!

“Power Behind the Pedals” Volunteer Award
How can Florida’s largest cycling event successfully take place with the help of a small crew of staff members? The answer lies in the hearts and hands of our dedicated volunteers. Each year, our volunteer base grows beyond belief. Our volunteers do it all, from stuffing rider goodie bags, coordinating venues, to cheering each and every rider across the finish line and ensuring rider safety on the route. We have identified five key volunteers who went above and beyond their call of duty, those referred to as our “Power Behind the Pedals.”
Merritt Burrus
John Vecchio
Mark Lowe
Dante Watson
Larry House
Merritt Burrus, our electrical mastermind, is personally to thank for wiring John Pennekamp Park for lighting, sound and entertainment. John Vecchio, the radio architect, put together the necessary equipment to relay radio signals along the route. Mark Lowe, longtime volunteer with our MS Bike Ride, loaded supplies at our warehouse, assisted with trucking, then set up and broke down John Pennekamp Park… what can’t he do? Our trucking logistics extraordinaire, Dante Watson, organized rest stop trucking, transported bicycles and assisted wherever a helping hand was needed… he does it ALL!!! Larry House not only is the Support and Gear Vehicle coordinator, but also spearheaded both the acquiring and building of our “new and improved” bike racks. Merritt, John, Dante and Larry are all members of our amazing MS Bike Committee. As for Mark, well… he’s just an amazing volunteer! On behalf of the 6,000 South Floridians living with MS, our riders, sponsors and South Florida Chapter staff, we thank you for your overwhelming support and for being our “Power Behind the Pedals.” South Florida Chapter 3201 W Commercial Boulevard Suite 127 Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309
