Week 1: Compression
Measure out the space required to house the toy Alternating layers of brick to dissapate load equally to the layer below. A beam reinforced with elastic bands for tension is used to close off the tower. The tower is then slowly turned into a circular shape to support a big dead load The week’s activity is to build a tower with compression, which is by layering bricks on top of one another. Using the weight of the brick ontop, the tower becomes very stable and capable of withstanding a large dead load.
By alternating layers of bricks to seperate the load, there can be large gaps in the tower without collapsing the tower
