Art Deco – layering of planes Places form curves extending to the same point
Podium Creates strong focal point for potential speaker Curves generated in regards to said point Overlayering of planes Clear lines as outline of planes

exercise: volume, mass
Atelier de Lyon | Rietveld Landscape
Wine Cellar – MAP architects
-solid mass -space created through section of a solid -entrance via pathway through solid -shelter, security
-opening below the ground -volume of building visually becomes voulme of the ground regardless of opening -generally quite an open/lit space still looks hidden/ Secured -secretive/mysterious atmosphere
idea generation
Mass Positive space vs negative space Protruding from the ground – similar shape reflected in opening Natural light and shadow Gravity
Draft sketch – underground bunker
Section as seen facing entrance
Section as viewed from path
exercise: frame & infill Modular structures Slightly varying modules to create plane Customised planes to create solid
Frame House, Igor Sirotov, Kiev -gravity – reversable? -symmetry of elements -modules in interior, modular nucleus with similarities in walls
Nykredit Headquarters, Schmidt Hammer Lassen architects, Coppengaghen - suspension, vertigo -protruding steel (?) frame, glass infill interior -vast, open interior, light colours, matte surfaces.

Herring Island a place for keeping secrets
site analysis - Strong winds are blowing from the river; both banks relatively exposed - Path of sun travel throughout the day/through seasons indicated – concentrated on other side of hill, but south of peak still pretty light – does not feel shadowed. - . Surrounding sculptural elements -Some large trees on slope of hill, mostly lower shrubs and bushes – native vegetation -Circulation-wise, easily accessable due to 2 paths leading and intersecting, but also quite distant enough from landing to be considered secretive. -rather small – we're talking 5 by 3 metres of hill space

precedents & panels, form generation
Curvature | Hira, Nissa & Teguh Beautiful detail in this frame & infil which also explored modularity – each panel in this panelling installation can be considered a separate module.
Photoshop brush trials, artist unknown All secrets eventually fade away. General disintergration likened to scattering of leaves – use of bigger and smaller shapes to create holes – inspired panel design and development.
