2010 Colour Forecast Here at NoChintz we understand how important colour forecasting is for marketer’s seeking a competitive advantage. Colour reports identify cultural and lifestyle trends that will play an important role for tomorrow’s consumers. They can be the springboards for inspiration, interpretation and adaptation for the creative market.
Thoughtful, cautious neutrals provide a dependable backbone to the Brights of spring. Kick back and enjoy the bubbly luxury of Pink Champagne. The melding of Pink Champagne, Tomato Puree and Amparo Blue is a refreshing take on the classic combination of red, white and blue.
Pantone the global authority on colour and provider of professional colour standards for the design industries has compiled a list of what they think will be the top 10 Colours for spring 2010.
Three additional neutrals round out the palette. Tuscany, a warm beige hue, provides the perfect backdrop and works well as a solid base with dynamic accents like Fusion Coral or Violet. Dried Herb is the ultimate green neutral, pairing well with all other colours. Ideal for bigger ticket items, cool Eucalyptus is the eternal, practical gray. Choose this nuanced neutral and add brightly coloured exclamation points in furniture and products. [ Ref : 1 }
The colours featured in the PANTONE Fashion Colour Report are pulled from the PANTONE FASHION + HOME Colour System, the most widely used and recognized colour standards system in the world. Spring and summer naturally evoke feelings of calm ocean waters and tranquil beach vacations in cool, vibrant, tropical Turquoise. This soothing hue from the blue-green family conjures feelings of escape, especially when paired with Amparo Blue. Like the scent of a blossoming flower, Violet lends a romantic air to the warm-weather palette.
Yellow has made its mark on interiors and spring will further this trend with gleaming Aurora. Reminiscent of the first glimpse of yellow as the sun begins to rise over the horizon, this shimmering, slightly greenish yellow adds a bold infusion. Energy continues to surge throughout the warmer hues, leading to provocative Fusion Coral. This inviting orange connects directly to tangy Tomato Puree, this years classic red. Pair it with Turquoise for a retro look.

Interior Trends
Heimtextil
“Understanding the current mindset shows how culture evolves and how values are changing and gives insight into today’s complex world. Empathetic design, with people and there surroundings in mind, will lead to the creation of quality interiors that people can really enjoy.” Heimtextil Trends 2010/11 where developed by members of the international Trend Table. Temptation creates a private sphere out of the traditional and modern
Futurustic features simplicity of high quality
Temptation is designed to appeal to the senses in an age of technology, the Internet and public life. While people are becoming more and more networked, the desire for a private sphere is increasing and the quest for inner values growing. Timeless forms are fitted with amazing new developments and interpreted with classic forms. The private sphere we seek is clearly apparent in interior design in the form of a cocoon-like mini-living room. “Forbidden” colours such as absinthe and red wine are used.
When the 2005 World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Reports where published the textile sector concerned itself with the need to nurture and protect the earth’s resources. Trends have also been influenced by Ethical Fashion Week which was first staged in 2007. The Futurustic trend statement makes this connection and cleverly highlights aspects of authenticity and ecological considerations. Aesthetically, Futurustic concentrates on subtleties, fine weaves and the frothy and voluminous as well as natural, earthy colours. For example, Refined roots symbolises irregular structures like those in nature – a modern interpretation of “Back to the roots”. Here so-called eco-luxury is apparent in the mix of plain, simple style variations and elementary forms of extravagance. The third theme, Infinite time, is a combination of raw materials and soft materials. The interior setting reflects timeless comfort with calming strength and a rustic confidence in the future. [ Ref : 2 ]
One of the subthemes of Temptation is Intimate sphere, where the worn-out look is adopted for modern finishes. Irresistible staging takes pleasure in turning the relationship between old and new, genuine and copy on its head, creating a mysterious fantasy atmosphere. The rediscovered freedom of creativity is shown by contrasting materials like transparent, coloured plastic and classic borders and trimmings. Digital classics blur the dividing line between the real and the virtual and features a journey between fantasy and the present. The classic is reinterpreted and makes use of timeless elements. Hypernature transports the freshness of nature t o the big city
Intuition an explosion of good humour and bright colours
Here, fresh, urban colours are combined with shades of smog. This brings a new strength and energy to city life and creates harmony involving sensuality and innovation. Hypernature builds on transparent materials with natural fabrics like soy and bamboo. Thanks to the use of tone-on-tone embroidery, Beneficial innovations give modern, rational elements a hint of warmth and are sensual and ingenious as a result. In Organotech a touch of freshness makes the symbiosis with nature evident. Hybrid materials bring more poetry to the furnishings, creating shadow effects through the layering of fabrics and light. Layering reality transports a creation consisting of soft, bright, luminous structures, layers and delicate sensory illusions, the emphasis here is on bringing reality and poetry closer. [ Ref : 2 ]
Now creativity is repositioning itself after the current times of crisis. Bright, contemporary colours show spontaneous creativity – a variety of patterns from different cultures reflect the universal language. Intuitive geography amazes with its form and colour and combines plastic with sustainable materials. Freedom and spontaneity result in Impulsive creativity with strong colours and naive, pictorial designs – creating a dynamic architecture. Graphic fascination breathes life into functionality. Prints and surface coverings play with forms and bring good humour into the creative home. Magic simplicity is equally rich in contrast bringing a spontaneous optimism to interior design and facilitating an encounter between bright colours and neutral tones. [ Ref : 2 ]

Imm Cologne
Interior Trends 2010 is a design trends publication which features trend analysis conducted by the imm cologne Trendboard, this year made up of designers Bertjan Pot and Cecilie Manz, architect and designer Johanna Grawunder, materials expert Giulio Ridolfo and Dezeen editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs. Discipline creates a private sphere out of the traditional and modern
Trickery creates a private sphere out of the traditional and modern
The beauty of reason: Luxury is no longer sought in comfort but in formal and qualitative consistency. Only forms that are beautiful, innovative and durable can be useful as well. Bauhaus classics set the tone, quality workmanship adds authenticity. Slender, simple furniture with as few edges as possible dominates. The materials also indicate a return to the authentic: wood, leather, woven fabrics or ceramics, rounded off with the occasional plastic detail. Beige, old rose and a warm tea-brown add a touch of warmth to the discipline. [ Ref : 3 ]
Design against design: with experiments, with products and furniture that are driven by artistic rather than marketoriented motives and play with our expectations, designers and their public are rebelling against the slickness of the design world. Improvisation and artisanal imperfection stand for creativity, which seems better suited to solving current and future problems than classic forms. The result looks pieced together, sometimes even primitive; there are hybrids between various furniture types, combinations of plastics and natural materials. Colours are another popular area for experiments that yield toned-down shades like lilac, apricot or brown.[ Ref : 3 ]
Comfort Zone Consoling and Cuddly, Hobby, Englishness, Puffs and Cakes, Folklore Farm
Rehab Purism as Self-Therapy, High-tech, Low-tech, Manipulating Greenery, Experiments, Detox
Retreat to the comfort zone: Voluminous wing chairs, borrowings from English nostalgia, cakeshaped soul-soothers and furniture that radiates cosy, self-made aesthetics keep the outside world at bay. Colourful, traditional ornamentation brings far off climes a little closer to home. Textiles, shag-pile carpets and ceramic tiles signal cosiness and durability, emphasised by an earthy brown with a hint of blackberry and subtle dashes of yellow, red and green. [ Ref : 3 ]
Back to basics: Furniture and rooms are being subjected to a kind of rehabilitation treatment and stripped of all comfort and ornamentation. What remains are skeletal forms and white walls. The naked form becomes the starting point for further development using innovative materials and techniques. Angular forms, functional adjustment features and folding options are typical of the slightly chunky Rehab aesthetics. Yellow, the dominant colour, stands out clearly against the neutral whites and greys. [ Ref : 3 ]

New Products
Painted Black
The recent trend for black furniture and products has continued into 2010 with RAUN, Mater and Stemik Living bringing out new product ranges in black. The classic hue has been embraced for its wonderful and endless versatility, which, depending on its application, can make an interior feel traditional or edgy, serious or sassy. In design, black is grounding,defining, and unifying. The graphic benefit of black,especially when teamed with white, has been duly noted. But, much like dressing up, black can bring out the best in other colours, too. High Stool MATER
Onyx Stemik living
The Onyx modern black beauty bathroom furniture collection is a perfect example of amazing modern and minimalist piece of bathroom furniture from Stemik Living. This Onyx bathroom collection is one of the latest trends in modern furniture design with its black glass furniture set as the most attractive part of this modern bathroom collection. [ Ref : 5 } Bllack Raven RAUN Mater is a Copenhagen based design brand focused on high quality craftsmanship and environmental friendly materials. Mater has been awarded several times by Wallpaper* Magazine in London for their commitment to design, ethics and craftsmanship. The stools designed by Space come in three versions and heights. The original stool is made from FSC certified stained white oak with US origin. Always looking for more environmental friendly ways of production they decided to make a version of the chair using local Indian oak and then apply the same high quality craftsmanship, which was launched in a black version. Lastly, they have an aluminium stool made from scrap materials collected locally. The recycled scrap will be melted into aluminium and hand polished into a shiny high polished surface. [ Ref : 4 ]
The Danish furniture house RAUN has introduced a collection Bllack Raven in collaboration with the fashion luxury brand NOIR, where the classic NOIR universe and CSR is combined. The result reflects the NOIR design philosophy and plays with contrast - shiny opposite matte and stringent opposite voluminous. The inspiration comes from the Victorian era, where the dark universe and the old virtues dominate. This is reflected in the design, which has elegant rococo inspired details and soft curves that meet styled Rock n Roll. [ Ref : 6 }
Future Technology
Mobile Augmented Reality
www.juniperresearch.com
Augmented reality, the layering of digital visual information on to real world imagery is set to generate £445m by the end of 2014, according to a report by Juniper Research. Initially growth will be slow as only a small proportion of handsets are AR ready. Most mobile devices do not have all the necessary features for AR, such as GPS, digital compass, tilt sensors and broadband connectivity, but with the launch more handsets that include these functions, AR is expected to become increasingly available.
So what is augmented reality? AR applications generally rely on using GPS location to know where the user is, and the compass to know the direction they are facing. “The camera on the phone can then be used to identify objects such as buildings or landmarks that have been geo-tagged with metadata, either through image recognition or through 2D barcodes on the object. The camera viewfinder or screen then displays the additional data, and may also provide links to other services or functions relevant to the object.” [ Ref : 7 ] What impact will this have on the world of design? The implications for architecture and the ways we use built space are profound. The technology will complete the process of behavioural change that ubiquitous mapping has already started, giving us a totally different relationship to the urban structure. In the longer term, AR could lead to the effective “merger” between the internet and the world around us. Augmented reality can insert live 3D-looking computer graphics into the urban landscape. Objects and buildings wouldn’t just be what they are – they would be the portals to a wider world of data. That’s why AR is really important to architecture – it’s an added layer onto the physicality of space. [ Ref : 8 ]
NoChintz Newsletter | Trend Feature | Spring 10
What will be the result of living with such technology? While AR geotagging presents a wealth of opportunities, providers and enablers willl have to carefully consider the potential legal implications of enabling such services. According to Juniper report author Dr. Windsor Holden, “The problem is we have no legal or regulatory framework in place which specifically covers augmented reality. For example, can a house-owner legitimately demand that a geotag of his or her property be removed?” This also raises the question of weather the third party would need prior permission before creating a tag? [ Ref : 9 ] Overall AR can change the way we view the world forever - it has the potential to transform the way we see and interact with everything. The system allows us to see the world’s data where it can be most useful to us - out in the world itself! Juniper Research assesses the current and future status of mobile augmented reality based on interviews, case studies and analysis from representatives of some of the industries leading organizations.
