HOPE CHEST Traditionally in the form of a wooden trunk or box, contained the dowry of a young woman. The box and its content played an important part not only in the business transaction between two families, but served as a survival kit for the new life a girl was about to enter. The Hope Chest didn’t just contain the objects that would secure a young women’s future but comprised her heritage, her sense of belonging. With this in mind we produced a Hope Chest that travels around the world. At each station a group of artist will participate in shaping the content of the Box and therefore the exhibition. With this gesture of sharing and hands-on participation we want to 2|Page

THE EXHIBITION AGAINST BAD LUCK In this Museum Night we break fears and prejudices. Do you know that the fear of number 13 is called triskaidekaphobia, and that the fear of Friday the 13th is called friggatriskaidekaphobia! In some parts of the world hotels do not even have the 13th floor! We should ask ourselves will the encounter with the chimney sweeper bring us luck indeed, and will the broken mirror doom us with the seven years of bad luck? Believe it or not, almost everybody is suppositious, regardless of their social status and education. Come and question with us the symbolism of everyday practices: seeing black cats, wearing red colour, getting up “on the wrong side of the bed”, opening umbrella indoors, and also find out more about many unusual customs related to the wedding ceremonies!
