I always wondered why certain

graves of our cemeteries are so kitsch, even

downright vulgar. White or grey marble with golden calligraphy, small cherubs, slate with inscriptions such as: “to our loved grandma�, roses, birds, funeral wreathes, and so many plants! Why do we make a show around a tomb? In my opinion, death

is something more

intimate and private and should be a

spiritual relation between the loved one and his relatives.

Beyond is a hot air balloon carrying souvenirs of the deceased loved one.

‘Value by design’ is an installation which took place at “Chennai Product Design Days - 2012” in November 2012. The goal of

this project was to showcase the capabilities of the company through an installation within a 5 meters by 1.5 meters space. The installation comprised of simple, creative and interactive

elements which attracted the public and delivered the content in an effective and unique manner. It is a stall installation that explores the

relationship between the public and TYCKA Design studio.

The final product is a partnership between Whisper* (Procter and Gamble) and Indian artists, to make women feel better about their menstruation and not to be ashamed. The product is a pad which, thanks to different absorption of paper, will create a piece of art after use. It is based on the phenomenon called capillary action. The paper of the pad is compressed in some parts and less compressed in other, creating a pattern. The blood is then absorbed only where the paper is not too compressed. The aim of this project is to surprise

women, make them laugh or be happy about menstruating.

*The partnership is hypothetical. Even though I have been in contact with Procter and Gamble, they didn’t want to go further in this project...



Where in the process of production?

The packaging is made of cardboard, really colorful and catchy. The goal of the packaging is not to hide the product in the shop but on the contrary be proud of selling it and proud of buying it. Each pad in its packaging, is attached to the other and can be detached thanks to a pre-cut. The packaging is hanging, imitating street shops where all the products are suspended to the stall. The cover is made to keep it and reuse it to wrap the pad after use.
