You'll learn about the Minoans, an ancient civilization named after the mythical King Minos, who is known for constructing the labyrinth that imprisoned the monstrous Minotaur. Another must-see site is Zeus’ Cave, where legend holds that the father of all Greek gods was born. No trip to Crete is complete without a journey to the plateau of Katharo. After navigating winding dirt roads and a lush forest, you'll eventually emerge to the island's highest point. Nearly 5,000 feet above sea level, this is the perfect opportunity to stop at a kafenio (café) for a drink and enjoy the incredible view.
