Dog Grooming Clippers

What kind of dog do you have? There are some breeds that take more time to maintain, and others that are low maintenance. You may want a beautiful dog with long silky hair, but are you prepared to do your part in making sure they stay nice and clean? If you are, then one of the tools you will need is dog grooming clippers.

Remember, having a dog means that you have to be responsible for him. You need to provide him with nutritious meals, have him vaccinated, exercise him regularly, and of course groom him appropriately. What you get in return is far more worthwhile than the effort and time you put into them. What you get is a beautiful, healthy and happy dog that any owner will be proud to call his own.

Dog grooming should be a regular part of your dog’s life. You don’t have to do it every day. It really depends on what kind of dog you have. You might have a dachshund which doesn’t really require a lot of haircutting, or you might be an owner of a Collie, in which case you should frequently wash and trim his hair to make sure he looks good all the time.

I would recommend that you bring your dog to a professional canine groomer first before you attempt cutting his hair off yourself. Dog grooming clippers can be pretty tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing so it’s better that you observe how you’re supposed to hold the dog and maneuver the clipper around his body so you don’t risk giving your dog painful nicks and cuts.

Before you start clipping, make sure that your dog’s coat is washed and combed. Matted hair can be a little hard on both the clipper and the dog. Wait for his hair to completely dry before you start cutting away. Some dogs are double coated. If your dog is like this, do not cut beyond his undercoat so that his hair will grow back naturally. Give your dog a doggie treat or lavish him with praise after a dog grooming session so that he will not feel like this is a negative experience.

When you do use the clippers, make sure that the blades are sharp. When the blades are dull, they tend to pull the hair which can be painful for the animal. The more blades there are in a dog clipper, the shorter and closer the cut is. Choose the right blade and clipper for your dog by looking through some photographs on what your dog’s coat should look like, and going online to forums to ask more experienced pet owners what kind of tools you should purchase.
