Waltz Dancing
As you would imagine, this scandalized the upper crust people. There were written reports wherein noblemen and scholars deemed waltz as an obscene and low brow dance. However, this did not stop the burgeoning popularity of the dance. Eventually, this dance was polished and refined to a more acceptable standard and the waltz that we know now, was born. Perhaps one of the main reasons why waltz dancing became such a phenomena is because of the beautiful melodies it was danced to. Josef Lanner and Johann Strauss were two outstanding musicians who composed some of the most enchanting orchestra music in Vienna for the waltz. It ushered in the Romantic Era and more than that, gave the waltz the touch of class and sophistication it still enjoys today.
