Rotational Compost Bin Design

Making compost is beneficial for the garden. But is it a task the user wants to perform? Rotating a compost bin for aeration can be a strenuous task that can intimidate even the most experienced gardeners. The heavy soil stored in the compost bin forces the user to use unrefined methods for rotation

Research The project brief is to design an urban homesteading product that represents the aesthetics, standards, and values of IKEA. I began to do research through participating at local community gardens and interviewing users. In order to understand the IKEA brand I also made trips to different IKEA branch stores to observe trends

The design makes turning your compost a new experience. Users simply push the bin and the wheels will provide the energy for turning the compost bin. Aeration can be provided to the compost on a daily basis without an excessive amount of time involved

The art of the mixtape is an experience that is slowly fading away in today’s digital world. Technology has enabled users to download and share music faster than methods used in the past. But we are losing the physical connection we had when physically composing and gifting a mixtape to a loved one.

Refining Form & Function Mockups were created in order to evaluate the beginning concepts and in order to do user testing. 3-D Form Refinement was used in order to create the appropriate aesthetics in order for the user to understand the product. I created a range of forms from organic to geometric.

The system includes three units and a mobile application. The application enables the user to insert songs while the blue mixing disc doubles as a speaker and a tangible mixing device. The gifting ring is the media that you attach to the system in order to download and give a custom mix.

Create Mixes For The Ones You Love Give custom tangible playlists to your loved ones. Music is an emotional driven media and it deserves a product that amplifies that aspect of the experience. Connect with others through the Ringmix System

Iphones are constantly used for film and photography. But there is a lack of image stabilization in the Iphone’s design due to it’s slender body. By combing found objects I discovered a mockup that perfects stabilizes a phone and enables the user to easily control their camera movement. The object inspired me to take a direction in designing an Iphone stabilizer for the user

The final prototype uses a t-slot groove and an adjustable knob in order to allow the stabilizer to move from landscape to portrait. The form is able to fold on itself for a compact shape that is able to conveniently fit in the user’s pocket. The device has a USB charge battery that powers your phone when battery is low

We want to stay connected to others through social media and texting. The constant use of technology has cut our physical face-to-face interaction with our loved ones. We become so absorbed into digital technology that we forget that the most intimate interaction is physically in front of us.

Mockup & Modeling Process The mockup process involved testing various proportions of the wearable. The early stages of the concept involved wearables on the wrist which, detected heart rate when interacting with friends. The concept evolved into the neck area because it was the area that distracted the least from conversations. The model was 3-D printed and the blueprints were created on CAD.

Chat Schedule Connect Conversations move at a natural pace. The Chronos wearable adds another layer to conversation without interruption. Chronos is able to find intersection of availability with friends in order to schedule the optimal time to connect with one another.

The form represents an “X” showing that the conversation hasn’t shown any interest in meeting up or available time slots When there is an intention in the users’ speech pattern to meet up the necklace will start to align itself. Chronos syncs to your phone calender, messages, and emails in order to organize your availability. Alignment of the necklace will fully reveal optimal meet up time and will be displayed to both users

The problem of an San Jose’s transit system is the environment is disconnected from the user experience. People are not willing to use public transit because they believe it is unsafe, unhygienic, and slow. The public transit system has to be redesigned in order to better meet the needs of the users.

Research The team and I went on local public transits in order to observe the users’ behavior and note their interaction with the environment. We discovered that user’s tend to avoid eye contact with others and enjoy their own personal space. Users place their bags and other items beside them, which obstructs the space in order to provide privacy

Team Building Process The pod mockup process was stage that helped us define the physical layout of the components within the pod design. Foamcore and wood were the materials used to build the mockup in order to give it good aesthetic and a strong structure. We were able to define elements that weren’t clear in the CAD model and make adjustments to the layout during the building stage

The final mockup of the transit pod helped us evaluate the ergonomics of the pod by having passengers sit in the pod. Our design team collaborated with engineers to examine the next steps in refining the ATN concept. The interior features folding chairs, which make room for bicycles and handicap users. The pod system will be more efficient than public transportation due to less stops and more pods for users. The final design is an efficient solution for problems users encounter in San Jose’s public transportation.

Colombia is a nation that is scattered with land mines from incidents from war. Children who are curious and play in the fields become victims of triggering a land mine. As a result, they have to live their lives as an amputee. The goal of the project was to design a thirty dollar prosthetic that fits the child’s needs in aesthetics and functionality.

Team Building Process We started to build and test our prosthetics with a jig we created in order to simulate being an amputee. The mockups all experimented with different aesthetics, hardware connections, and functionality. Overall, I was personally responsible for the knee and had to maintain communication with the pylon and socket designers in order to ensure our prosthetic is a cohesive product

The final prosthetic design has a minimal aesthetic and simple functionality, which helped reduced our cost to under thirty dollars. The prosthetic is designed for a eight year old child and has the ability to adjust for additional growth. Spacers were designed in order to fit in between the knee and adjust the height of the prosthetic in small increments
