From the heart of Dakar, Noumoucounda Cissoko drops “Faling” Brooklyn, NY via Dakar, Senegal – February 3, 2011 – The art and music community runs deep through the streets of Dakar. Noumoucounda Cissoko exemplifies this. Cissoko, a Senegalese kora player born to a griot family, was trained at the music conservatory in Dakar. This sense of experAse and musicianship is on full display in his latest effort, “Faling.” Working with the Swiss jazz combo, Phat4, Cissoko creates a blend of jazz, tradiAonal griot kora music, as well as some hip hop tones and rhythms found on tracks like “Sining”. Phat4, comprised of Fred Hirschy, Jean Ferrarini, Yoann Julliard, and Franco Casagrande, fuse their jazz mastery with the impeccable kora talents that Cissoko brings to the table. The result is an album that captures themes of peace, love and African unity. Even at such a young age, Cissoko is a well‐established collaborator, working with the likes of Youssou Ndour, Kimany Marley and jazz bassist Ira Coleman. Tracks like “Noumou Koradioulou” and “Sayi Saye” show Cissoko as a master musician pulling from the inspiraAons surrounding him. “Faling” also features top Africa arAsts like: Tumi from South Africa's "Tumi and the Volume" and Fredy Massamaba out of The Congo.
