ENGLISH PLUS

English Plus + Horse Riding Horse Riding is both a sport and a pastime enjoyed worldwide – our course focuses on the sporting elements of show jumping and dressage as well as covering the basics of grooming and stable management. Our English Plus Horse Riding camp is perfect for students who have a love of horses and would like to improve their stable knowledge and riding ability alongside developing their English language skills with other riders. This 2-week course is suitable for both beginner and more advanced riders, however we would recommend students to have some experience of being around horses. When our Horse Riding students are not at the stables, they will be on-site at Finborough Hall taking part in fun and interactive English lessons, entertaining evening activities or enjoying one of 3 excursions to London or a local town or attraction. Course Includes This 2-week long course includes 20 hours at the stables; there will be 4 sessions each week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in either the morning or afternoon (Wednesdays will be reserved for an excursion).

Highlights The 2-weeks will end with the grand ‘Dressage and Show Jumping Competition’ where riders can showcase their new skills and will be awarded rosettes.

Our riding instructors are British Horse Society and Pony Club qualified and will begin by assessing all students, including basic riding positions in walk, trot and canter. During the course, students will also learn an introduction to stable management and how to safely handle the horse, including securely tying up, leading, grooming, tacking up and feeding. At the end of the 2-weeks, our riders will have the opportunity to show off new skills with a ‘Dressage and Show Jumping competitionʼ where rosettes will be awarded. Students should have a much better understanding of equestrian care and stable management and will have improved their riding ability. Equipment Required Students should not bring riding helmets, all helmets and equipment will be provided due to British Standards. Riders are welcome to bring their own specific riding clothing such as jodhpurs and boots. English Plus courses are booked in addition to your student’s language activity camp.

English Plus + Golf The sophisticated game of Golf is one of accuracy, power and patience – and Camp Worksop is home to a beautiful course, perfect for those wanting some timeout on the course alongside developing their English. The ability to play golf is not essential as students will be coached on technique, with each session focusing on a different element of the game but some previous experience can help. The English Plus Golf course consists of 8 intensive coaching sessions over the two weeks, combined with adventure activity sessions, evening entertainment and excursions, meaning golfers get the best of both worlds. We begin with an introduction to the sport, including etiquette, safety and scoring strategies. By the end of the course, students should have a greater appreciation on the sport and have gained the confidence to continue developing their skills. Course Includes The course consists of 8 intensive 2.5 hour coaching sessions over the two weeks, which are scheduled between our multiactivity sessions; excursions and evening entertainment.

Highlights Our students will be given the opportunity to play on the excellent 3-par golf courses on-site, continuing to develop their knowledge and skills, including course management and scoring skills.

PGA qualified coaches begin the course with an introduction to the sport, with our students learning about the correct golf etiquette, behaviour and safety on the course. We also introduce and assess our players’ understanding of golf ‘set up’, including hand grip, posture, ball position and alignment as well as swing technique. During the course, sessions will progress to learning different types of swing technique and an introduction to golf’s ‘short game’, including putting, chipping, pitching and bunkers. These skills are developed throughout the course utilising different clubs and shots required throughout the round. Equipment Required All equipment is provided however students may wish to bring their own golf clothing including waterproofs. English Plus + Leadership “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” This brand-new English Plus Leadership course offers older students a unique cross-cultural opportunity to build and develop skills in key areas of leadership – we hope through this course we can inspire our teenage students to become global citizens. During this 2-week course, our specially trained and experienced camp instructors will guide our 15 to 17-yearold students through a series of sessions designed to test and develop their effective team work, problem solving, communication and presentation skills. Course Includes The course will be made up of 3-hour daily interactive workshops, in which we cover all aspects of developing key skills in leadership – from idea sharing, understanding others and their behaviour, public speaking and entrepreneurism. In addition to these workshops, we also ask our Leadership students to actively participate in evening sessions, shadowing our camp staff, culminating in challenging the students to design an evening of their own to inspire and engage their younger peers on-site.

Highlights During the course, students will prepare and participate in a 1-night overnight expedition, designed to test their planning and teamwork skills. Students will also enjoy their own independence during our excursions, allowing them to explore and discover their excursion destination for themselves.

Students will also participate in a 1-night overnight expedition where they will be responsible for navigating their way along a route through rural England, completing a series of tasks during their journey, setting up camp and sleeping out under the stars before trekking back to the residential camp. By the end of the 2-weeks, our students should feel confident in leading and inspiring others. Equipment Required No equipment will be required as this will be provided, however students will need to bring sensible outdoor clothing and a strong can-do attitude to get stuck in. USA Our Programmes These are a sample of our varied summer language activity camps available during the summer throughout America. Homestay Camp (Asheville) Students are welcomed into the home of a friendly local host family; whose own children also attend camp for an authentic experience. During the week, students participate in English classes, local fun and educational activities, plus full day trips to leisure highlights in the area, including theme parks and white-water rafting. Homestay Immersion (Colorado / North Carolina / Washington) During this programme, students are entirely integrated in the day-to-day life of a local host family, who have been chosen specifically for their desire to host an international student for the summer. Through intensive involvement and interaction, students are given a unique opportunity to practice and improve their English as well as experiencing real-life American living. Homestay Immersion + Camp (Colorado) In addition to spending 1-3 weeks of living with a local host family, students then have the opportunity to join an authentic American summer camp with other American teens. Students can choose between attending ‘traditional camp’ participating in typical summer camp activities from sports, climbing, hiking, crafts and more or choose to take part in a specialist ‘Leadership’ or ‘Counsellor in Training’ course. ENGLISH PLUS

English Plus + Golf The sophisticated game of Golf is one of accuracy, power and patience, perfect for those wanting some time-out on the course during their homestay programme in Asheville, North Carolina. The ability to play golf is not essential as students will be coached on technique, with each session focusing on a different element of the game but some previous experience can help. The English Plus Golf course consists of 8 intensive coaching sessions over the month-long homestay, which are intermittent between our standard adventure activity sessions; excursions and evening entertainment, meaning golfers get the best of both worlds! We begin with an introduction to the sport, including etiquette, safety and scoring strategies. By the end of the course, students should have a greater appreciation of the sport and have gained the confidence to continue developing their skills. Course Includes The course consists of 16 hours of coaching sessions over the four weeks, which are scheduled into 8 x 2-hour sessions during the 4-week homestay programme. A PGA qualified coach will begin the course with an introduction to the sport, with our students learning about the correct golf etiquette, behaviour and safety on the course. We also introduce and assess our players’ understanding of the golf ‘set up’, including hand grip, posture, ball position and alignment as well as swing technique.

Highlights Our students will be given the opportunity to play on the excellent 3-par golf courses on-site, continuing to develop their knowledge and skills, including course management and scoring skills.

During the course, sessions will progress to learning different types of swing technique and an introduction to golf’s ‘short game’, including putting, chipping, pitching and bunkers. These skills are developed throughout the course utilising different clubs and shots required throughout the round. Equipment Required All equipment is provided however students may bring their own golf clubs if they prefer to use their own. Students should ensure they pack suitable golf clothing including waterproofs. English Plus courses are booked in addition to your student’s language activity camp.

Our English Plus Tennis course is perfect for students who want to spend their summer in Asheville learning or improving their tennis skills.
