In barns with vacuum systems, the slurry is sucked out with a pump that is installed at the bottom of a dry well buried in the ground.
The slurry flows into the reception tank or to a cross channel that is connected to a reception tank outside the barn. The cross channel is easily emptied by back flushing, which means pumping liquid slurry from the reception tank to the remotest part of the cross channel, which is thereby rinsed.
If the slurry needs to be pumped over a long distance or ascending terrain, a high-pressure pump can be chosen for the dry well.
In the reception tank, we offer three different solutions for mixing and pumping to the storage tank: • Mixer and submersible pump • Mixer and long-shaft pump • Long-shaft pump with a manual bottom mixer The mixing or emptying of the reception tank can be started manually or automatically. Choosing an automated solution saves unnecessary wear and saves time. If the slurry needs to be pumped over a long distance or ascending terrain, a highpressure pump is recommended.

The pump in the well starts up when needed. When the pump is running, a vacuum is created in the main pipe under the basins in the barn. The slurry that is located in the pipes and the basins is sucked out and pumped into the storage tank. By choosing a solution that has an automatic stop function, unnecessary wear is avoided and time is saved.

In order to enable a complete emptying of a storage tank, it is necessary to mix the content first so that the bottom sediment and crust are mixed well with the liquid part of the slurry.
When using by-products from the food industry for animal feed (bread/cake/brewing waste), the feed needs to be mixed to become a homogeneous substance before it is pumped into the barns.
The mixing can be carried out with a mobile mixer, but it is easier and more efficient to use a stationary mixer. Especially if the tank is covered. Landia offers a wide range of mixers, fittings and hoists that fit all tank types and sizes, both for those with and without a cover.
The mixing can be done easily and efficiently in a buried tank with a built-in mixer and submersible pump. We recommend that all machine parts for feed mixing are made in stainless, acid-proof steel or with a two-component epoxy coating, since some of the alternative feedstuffs are fairly corrosive.

Slurry pump – Submersible Landia’s submersible pump DG is submerged in the slurry where it is used for mixing, chopping, back flushing and transfer in reception tanks, wells and storage tanks. Underground well with dry-installed pump MPTK This precast pump well in polyethylene (PE) is used for vacuum systems. It can also be applied to increase the pressure when pumping slurry over long distances through ascending terrain. The well comes in different sizes, ready for use with the required pump and fitting valves, pipe connection and lid. The precast PE well is entirely closed and comes with a large bottom piece so that it remains in the ground in case the ground water rises. ĵĵ The reception tank becomes unnecessary as the slurry is pumped directly into the storage tank. ĵĵ Well-suited for increasing pressure when pumping slurry long distances. ĵĵ The pump increases the vacuum effect when emptying a slurry channel. ĵĵ Capacity up to 475 m³/t. Long-shaft slurry pump Landia’s long-shaft pumps MPG (motor pump) and TPG (tractor pump) are installed on the side of a well or a tank so that the lower part of the pump housing is submerged in the slurry while the upper part, including the engine, is up in the open. The long-shaft pump can be delivered with a moveable bottom mixer. It comes in many sizes, fittings and different pipe layouts. ĵĵ The blade system in hardened steel for chopping dry matter content and an auger to ensure a homogenous intake, which helps to avoid any clogging of the pumping process. ĵĵ Cast pump housing results in a better quality than a welded pump housing. ĵĵ Long durability, often up to 10–15 years of operation without any major costs. ĵĵCapacity up to 450 m³/h. Slurry mixer POP Landia’s slurry mixer POP 300 is an all-round, efficient and solid mixer. The propeller has a special design with three blades, and the low rotation speed makes it very suitable for mixing even very thick slurry. ĵĵ The construction of the propeller gives it an optimal mixing effect. Landia slurry solutions - recommended by satisfied customers

Moving the slurry from the roads into the ground
Every year, 35 million m³ of slurry is transported on Denmark’s roads. This is a significant cost for the individual farmers and is very time consuming. There is often a debate about slurry transportation in traffic, since it can create problems such as traffic queues and can also be a significant odour nuisance. These problems can be reduced by moving some of these vehicles off the roads. This can be done by pumping the slurry through underground pipes, even over a distance of several kilometres! This may sound like an expensive solution, but that is not the case. On the contrary, it is profitable for the farmers, and the investment can be repaid in just a few years, afterwards leading to profits. Pumping slurry through an underground pipe system is not a new invention. Since 2002, farmer Ole Broholm Andersen has been pumping slurry from his farm to the biogas plant 1.3 km away. Around 80 m3 of slurry, with a 4% dry matter content, is pumped from Ole Broholm Andersen’s farm to the reception tank at the biogas plant.

Here, the slurry is mixed with different energy crops and pumped into the biogas plant. Following the digestion in the biogas plant, the slurry is separated and pumped to the storage tank, from which it is pumped back to the farm. The distance from the biogas plant and back to the farm is 1.5 km and the ascent is around 22 metres. At this point, the slurry has a dry matter content of 2.5%. The cost for slurry transportation is estimated from a price of 0,8€/m³. Ole pumps 7 000 m³ back and forth during a year, which would amount to 11,250€ annually using a traditional slurry transportation solution. Based on Ole’s investment in 2002, and the ongoing costs, his investment was returned in 2006. This corresponds to a payback period of 3.5 years. During the last ten years, Ole has had an annual saving of 8,980€. Ole Broholm says that it just makes sense financially; it is both cheaper and easier to pump the slurry underground than to transport it from place to place.
 Less time spent on pumping slurry means more time to run the farm
When Jan Rodenberg took over his farm near Christiansfeld, Denmark, he soon discovered that pumping slurry from the barns to the storage tank caused a lot of problems. Way too many hours were spent every week on pumping slurry. The problem with the existing solution was that the pumps often became clogged, and it was difficult to get the slurry out of the barns. To solve this problem, Landia A/S has delivered and installed a long-shaft pump in one of the reception tanks, which pumps to the other reception tank. The solution is set up so that it is not possible to pump slurry to the other reception tank if it is full. This is done by installing a pressure transmitter that reports the pressure. In the other reception tank that pumps to the storage tank, a long-shaft pump and a mixer are installed, and so the slurry is always homogeneous and easy to pump. A pressure transmitter is also installed, and it controls the mixer and the pump. The pressure transmitter sends a message when the reception tank is full and thereby starts up the mixer and subsequently also the pump. Once the tank is emptied, the mixer and the pump stop, only to start again once the tank is full. This solution is very reliable and requires minimal maintenance.

Service and maintenance Landia’s products are often used in aggressive environments under very abrasive operating conditions and with long operating times. Therefore, all Landia products are constructed from the following principles: • All components are dimensioned in a way that prevents them from becoming overloaded • Wear parts (blades, bearings and sealing systems) are easy to replace. The need for service and maintenance is minimal. When the unit needs servicing, the work can usually be done directly on location, without any transportation to or from a service site. This significantly reduces the shutdown time.
Automated control of slurry solutions We deliver several different operating systems, from very simple ones with manual on/off switches to more advanced PLC control systems with temperature sensors, pressure sensors, frequency converter, log book and remote monitoring.
