ขอมูลจากองคกร Ocean Conservancy ป 2012 ขอมูลลำดับขยะ ที่สามารถเก็บไดจากทะเล อันดับแรกเศษบุหรี่ จำนวน 2,117,931 ชิ้น คิดเปน 19 % ของจำนวนขยะที่เก็บไดทั้งหมด รองลงมาคือบรรจุภัณฑ อาหาร 1,140,222 ชิ้น คิดเปน 10 % ขวดพลาสติก 1,065,171 ชิ้น คิดเปน 10 % ถุงพลาสติก 1,019,902 ชิ้น คิดเปน 9 % และขยะอื่นๆ เชน ฝาปด ถวยจาน ชอนสอม หลอด ขวดแกว กระปอง และถุงกระดาษ ตามลำดับ
Science magazine in early 2015, a team of researchers led by Jenna Jambeck, environmental engineer. University of Georgia surveyed 192 coastal countries in 2010 To calculate the amount of plastic waste that flows into the ocean each year, the ocean is like a large bin accommodating 8 million tons of plastic waste per year. It will increase to 155 million tons per year by 2025. Thailand's 65 million people, ranked 6th in the country, emit plastic waste into the ocean with 1 million tons.
