DR. MANAL OMRAN TARYAM
CEO & Board Member Noor Dubai Foundation
The UAE has adapted and incorporated humanitarian work and development into its lifestyle , which enabled the it to witness remarkable success in the development and progress of humanitarian and development indicators despite the challenges faced by the world in 2020-2021, from the spread of epidemics, conflicts and other challenges that have left a noticeable impact on development strategies worldwide.
The UAE has made remarkable achievements in the field of humanitarian work, as this success translated into the country topping the ranking as one of the largest donors to foreign aid in the world compared to its national income.
Keeping than in mind, the Noor Dubai Foundation was keen on keeping pace with that progress reaching out to 33 million beneficiaries around the world by 2021.
On an international level, after witnessing the world go into total lockdown especially in areas benefiting from the development programs, that left a noticeable impact on the sustainability of programs and the SDGs, Noor Dubai condluded its year with the best results, as it rushed to modify and develop news ways service delivery, maintaining and monitoring the results while avoiding the spread of diseases and disasters.
Noor Dubai has successfully sustain its activity in Nigeria through its comprehensive eye care program, where the Foundation has redesigned the activities to adhere to preventive protocols to limit and control the spread of epidemics, successfully providing medical services in the field of eye health to 8,000 people and performing 1774 surgeries in Katsina State.
The Foundation was also keen on build human resource capacity and empowering the community by organizing a 6-week training program in which 250 primary health care workers from the Ministry of Health participated in, workers were trained to provide treatment and preventive services in the primary health care centers in Katsina.
The WHO supported curriculum and training program adopted the accredited Training Manual for Primary Health Care Workers and the WHO Regional Office program for the Middle East has been chosen to further aid in the education and training of medical personnel.
As part of its outreach program, Noor Dubai Foundation organized a 10-day treatment camp in Khartoum, Sudan. The camp successfully provided diagnostic and treatment services to more than 3,000 patients and 500 surgeries were performed.
The Foundation also continued to collaborate for 4 years with partners to control trachoma in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. Despite the political unease that have had the greatest impact on the distribution of doses of medicine due to the displacement and migration of those affected by the conflict in the region.
Over the past 8 years, Noor Dubai has invested AED 10.2 million in the strategy to control Trachoma, where 87 million doses of medicine have been distributed, 356,620 surgeries have been performed, and 101,132 health and education professionals have been trained. Studies conducted in March 2020 showed that the Foundation's programs have succeeded in controlling the outbreak of trachoma disease in 29% of the endemic areas of Amhara. Despite the progress that has been made in this regard, trachoma remains a health challenge in other areas of the state and therefore the Foundation will continue its efforts to combat blindness cause by Trachoma in Amhara.
As always, we are incredibly grateful to all our supporters and partners who make it possible to provide equal opportunity to access eye healthcare for all individuals, regardless of where they live and their social status. We look forward to another great year ahead full of health and impactful achievements across the fields of eye health care and humanitarian work.

MOBILE EYE CAMPS
One of Noor Dubai’s main international outreach programs is the Mobile Eye Camps, targeting remote areas in developing countries. In 2021, the Foundation conducted it's latest camp in the Northern region of Ghana, where free diagnostic and treatment services were provided to over 2000 patients and 500 surgeries were conducted. To ensure the safety of patients, health workers, and volunteers, the Foundation implemented a number of precautionary and contingency measures related to Covid 19 to achieve safe and sustainable eye healthcare services.
Since of the launch of Noor Dubai as an initiative in 2008, the Foundation has invested an estimated AED 8.9 Million in this program and benefitted over 300,000 individuals through free eye medical services. The absence of healthcare infrastructure and health resources in these remote areas in addition to the extreme poverty make it challenging for patients to access required. Mobile Eye Camps are essential to serving the patients who would go blind without intervention.
