The Aging Indian Skin
(An ongoing project)
The skin is the most genuine record of our experiences. This series puts an emphasis on the skin, as it looks deeper into the history of modern India. The story of modern India is best written by the refugee inux of 1947 and 1971 who helped establish the working middle class of the country. The photographs will concentrate on the 1971 generation of refugees who are now in their 60s, newly retired, and are witnessing a booming economic growth in the country.
Note: The project aims to record the lives of elderly refugees from all caste, class, and religion. The ďŹ nal form of presentation should be a book that constitutes their personal stories.
A quarantined self-portrait
Quarantine compelled most of us to return home after a very long time. While returning can be comforting, sometimes it can also mean that we have to re-look at certain, long-forgotten events of our lives. We begin to question who we were. Sometimes our memories fail us and then the inevitable seeps in. Are we really who we think we are? The series reveals this conicted state of mind in a time when days were trapped in a loop and we had to spend too much time with ourselves.
