Yacht Sales – Buying a Boat If you have read the many things I write about purchasing yachts, you understand that I am a bit skeptical about the wisdom in doing so. Buying a yacht, for some people, is nothing more than a trip down Ego Avenue, with very little forethought in the process. This is not to say, however, that if I could afford the yacht(s) of my dreams, I wouldn’t make the purchase.
Call it an ego trip if you wish. I don’t care. Given the finances to do so, I would own a scattered fleet of yachts using the best high performance prop throughout the world. In defense of myself, I must say that I still recognize the value of renting and chartering. However, I’m willing to make the investment in time, education, repairs, upkeep, and continued performance of my watercraft … I’m the kind of person who would dive into the sea of yacht ownership with zeal, swim around for a while, then sit on a dock or a beach and stare at the beautiful thing. So, in the spirit of a dream, skipping details such as what yacht styles I would choose, and what manufacturers of everything from motors to propellers to sails I would prefer, let me share my vision (remember, I’m dreaming here): The first place I will own a yacht (or two) will likely be when I move to Chile. My goal is to live beside an inland lake in the River Region. I’ll fly fish when I want to, will troll the lakes in my area, and will visit the ocean whenever I can. My ocean vessel should have the ability to take me to Chile’s many islands. Luckily, even when I’m on a yacht I can still write (I can’t lose complete focus on reality). Next, although I won’t live in Belize, I have many old friends who live there. One of these, Harold Smith, is a bonafide retired pirate who once lured me to the cayes for a private tour on a yacht his US business partners were going to purchase. His partners, however, never came through with the yacht, so he motored me around inside the barrier reef, in an 18-foot, open-bow aluminum fishing boat, with a powerful little outboard motor. I have rarely had more fun in my life than I had during those days. It was like riding a wild bronco into a paradise of crystal blue waters and scattered islands … If I were to visit Belize, now and then, and were I to have anyone care for my yacht in my absence; it would be Harold and members of his family.
Ultimately, I would choose to have a boat on Lake Pend Orielle, near Sandpoint, Idaho. The panhandle of Idaho was my grandfather’s landlocked home when he left the Pacific Ocean. I would love to make my occasional home there too, and remember the days long ago when we fly fished and trolled America’s rivers and lakes together. Of course, the realization of my dreams relies upon the success of my novels, digital marketing, video games, and other multimedia ventures … But can you feel how simply speaking of electronics and media scrapes against the dream? … Nonetheless, my trade is the vehicle upon which I am venturing toward the vision. One day I will buy a yacht … or two … or three … maybe four. And until I do, I will dream about them. About the author: This article was written by Mohit Jain for VEEM Propellers.
