NORA HOLMAN - INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT

ABOUT ME

Through my education and work experience, I have learned that design is so much more than beautiful spaces. Great design affects everyone in every aspect of life. I believe that functional, carefully planned design is as important to an individual’s wellbeing as any other vital part of life. Commercial design has become increasingly intriguing to me because of this and I look forward to sharing my Fortune 500 Headquarters office project upon completion. Fully immersing myself and building relationships with all the wonderful people in the industry for the past two years has helped me become so excited for my future. I know that working in a creative, team environment is where I best thrive and there is no aspect of my experience so far that I have not enjoyed.

RESTAURANT DESIGN L o c a t i o n : U p p e r E a s t S i d e , N e w Yo r k , N Y Date : Septermber 2018 Project Druation : 4 weeks DESCRIPTION Con-Man’s Tearoom & Lounge is a high-end, rooftop tearoom overlooking Manhattan’s Central Park. The design concept is derived from the movie American Hustle, set in the 1970s at the Plaza Hotel. The design intent is for Con-Man’s to exist in a remodeled, neoclassical style building while blending in mid-centry modern design elements with colors typical in the 1970s while maintaining a fresh and unique look for this century. The function and circulation of the space is centered around employee needs with server stations placed throughout and wide walkways for peak efficency. Guests and tourists will have a unique experience with a variety of seating options and even be able to observe the in-house growing of tea from the rooftop patio and sunroom. Con-Man’s Tearoom & Lounge is like nothing currently existing in New York City.

UNITED HEALTH GROUP MARKETING HEADQUARTERS Location : Atlanta, Georgia Date : April 2019 Project Duration : 2 weeks

DESCRIPTION Creating systems to better the healthcare of individual people is at the core of United Health Group. The concept of the design for United Health Group’s new marketing headquarters directly correlates to this idea. By tailoring each space to the individual, allowing for a multitude of work and collaboration spaces, along with the use of biophilic design crates a space for United Health Group’s employees to maximize their productivity while feeling at home and connected with their work every day. A pallette of soft blues, wood tones, and neutral colors has been derived from the health driving engine of our planet itself, our oceans. Pulling from this is a variety of curved furnisihgings selections and architectural detailing, as well as a concious effort to use materials and systems that will lessen the environmental footprint of the space overall.

PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY CENTRE Location : Scottsdale, Arizona Date : March 2019 Project Duration : 3 weeks

DESCRIPTION Born from the desert of scottsdale, the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Center focuses on the indoor-outdoor connection to promote healing. Motifs from local flora and colors and textures from the region hint to nature while live plants and soaring curtain walls make the presence of the outdoors vivid. Soft greens and strong blues were chosen for their calming, healing properties and are contrasted with raw textures of corten and terracotta. Sleek brass and terrazzo elevate the space in clean lines, broken up with soft ogranic curves in light and mid-toned woods. With this visual direction the surgery center aims to make the healthcare experience warmer and more pleasant, while still maintaining the effortlessly clean and resilient nature that is demanded in the health sector. Special attention was given to programming and space planning to ensure efficient flow and outstanding function, utilizing the “front of house and back of house format.

PARADE OF HOMES Location : Cedar Rapids, Iowa Date : February 2019 Project Duration : 4 weeks

DESCRIPTION For this project, we were tasked with designing the interior of an entire home for our professor, Jillissa Moorman and her family of six. The plan must fit within a given floor plan and correlate to the architectural design style of that house. I was given Modern/Traditional Farmhouse, and needed to blend this with the wants of the client. Neutral colors, mid-century elements and modern farmhouse were the aethetic wants and we must also take into consideration every functional need of her and her family. Jillissa has four kids ages 3 years, 5 years, 7 years and 9 years old and had specific room requirements including a large kitchen, two family rooms and dining rooms, a sunroom, music room, playroom, laundry room and specific bedroom allocations.
