So this is our focus for this issue. We share recipes for traditional Swedish Christmas treats, bring you our extensive Gift Guide to make this seasons gifting easier for you and reminding you to take a bit of time to relax by creating your own home spa. This season might be stressful and carrying different expectations, but don’t forget to take a step back and a deep breath every once in a while - and enjoy it!

NORDIC NOIR With its dark settings, complex characters and melancholic mood, the genre of Nordic Noir has brought Scandinavian crime to world wide fame. Inspired by the dark and rainy mood, just as any Swedish autumn day, we created the Nordic Kind interpretation of Nordic Noir.

In interior design, we are also seeing a lot of dark colours at the moment. Walls are painted in different shades of greys, blues and greens and tableware are being launched in blacks. In our take on the Nordic Noir trend, we focused on darkness. Candlesticks to light up the dark, posters in darker shades and black pottery - we got what you need to get the Nordic Noir setting at home! Read the full story on our take on Nordic Noir in our online magazine.

style guide 3 WAYS TO GET A Christmas is a big deal in the Nordics, and preparations start early, with the celebration of Advent for four Sundays before Christmas Eve. The winter season, with it’s short days, is really dark in the Nordic countries, so we take our chances to indulge in candle light and treats.

NORDIC CHRISTMAS

1

DECORATE WITH NATURAL MATERIALS Start with what nature has to offer. Bring in twigs and cones, and add Christmas tree decorations in lasercut birch wood. Candle light is also essential, and the leather Candle sticks add a beautiful Nordic touch to the decorations. White as snow is the number one colour, as it helps to light the room - well needed during the darkness of the Winter season.

CHRISTMAS TREATS The festivities really start four Sundays before Christmas, with the celebration of Advent. We light candles and treat ourselves to GlĂśgg (mulled wine), Lussekatter (saffron buns) and Pepparkakor (gingersnaps). This goes on all the way up until Christmas, making sure to keep our blood sugar levels high through this cold and dark season. Find recipes for saffron buns and gingersnaps in our online magazine.

SCENTS Baking and cooking your favourite Christmas recipes really brings out the most wonderful scents of different spices like cinnamon, clove and oranges - adding to that wonderful Holiday mood. If you don’t want to spend your time in the kitchen, the scented candle and fragrance stick "Winter" from Hing can add those exact scents to your home - without the cooking!

HING

Since the dawn of time, people all over the globe have gathered around crackling fires to tell the stories of their lives, as well as the stories of families and ancestors. As time passed the fires remained at the center of our history and became the soul of every house and home. Despite the noises from our modern lives, lighting a crackling little flame will allow us to sit down, take a deep breath and share our stories. Hing Organics is based in Lapland, in the north of Sweden, and the candles are handmade using an environmentally friendly rapeseed wax blend, organic wooden wicks and organic essential oils. Sofia, one of the founders of Hing, is born in Estonia. The word Hing is Estonian for soul, which reflects the care, attention and thought she put into every candle.

SANNA WIESLANDER

Sanna Wieslander is well-known for her beautiful and popular illustrations of animalpeople, like the Swan Lady and Hipster Goat. But it is only a few years since she started to take her art seriously. I’ve always been drawing, ever since I was a little kid, and my parents are also very artistic. But none of them work in the creative field and I never saw this as a future career Sanna tells us. She loves to play with her imagination and combine different motives to new, beautiful and a bit quirky creatures. All her illustrations are entirely drawn by hand. Most of them with graphite pencils, like the brand new, limited edition "Dancing Ink: Lady in Black" to the right.

PEYTIL

Peytil is an art project founded by the designer and illustrator Eitil ThorĂŠn Due, currently living and working in Stockholm, Sweden. His work reflects a graffiti-like spontaneity with focus on fashion illustrations and urban portraits. The style is inspired by street art, fashion and music. The motifs are contemporary and the combination between classic painting and digital tools makes the paintings full of expression and contrast. "With both parents working as artists, my mother as a sculptor and father as a painter, I grew up in a creative home and this formed me at an early age. The name Peytil was my nickname as a child" he says.
