AKU’s commitment to shortening the supply chain has resulted in the company concentrating more than 85% of its production in company-owned facilities in Italy and Romania, thereby limiting the environmental impact caused by the transport of goods.It is also possible to trace the geographical origin of 100% of the product components—raw material and semi-finished parts, guaranteeing the user complete transparency.

La ricerca su questo tema è tesa alla riduzione o alla completa eliminazione della presenza delle principali sostanze chimiche potenzialmente dannose per la salute dell’uomo e dell’ambiente. L’utilizzo del pellame pieno fiore DANI - SUSTAINABLE LEATHER, ottenuto dalla concia di capi bovini europei mediante un processo di concia e riconcia certificato senza l’utilizzo di cromo, è oggi uno dei più importanti obiettivi messi a segno dall’azienda in favore della sicurezza della materia prima. Il recente test di prodotto effettuato dalla fondazione tedesca Stiftung Warentest sullo storico modello Trekker Lite II GTX, ha inoltre evidenziato il basso livello di inquinanti sulle principali componenti di tale modello – pellame, tessuto e feltro - comuni a circa il 50% dei modelli in collezione.

Relevant research is aimed at reducing or completely eliminating the main chemical substances that are potentially harmful for the health of man and of the environment. One of the most important objectives the company has currently set itself with regard to the safety of the raw material is to use DANI - SUSTAINABLE LEATHER, obtained through a certified process of chromefree tanning and retanning of full grain hides from European cattle. The product test recently carried out by the German foundation Stiftung Warentest on an old favourite of ours, the model Trekker Lite II GTX, also highlighted the low impact of the product’s main components–hide, fabric and felt–which are shared with approximately 50% of the models in our collection.

One of the areas that AKU is focusing on in the design stage is the use of recycled materials as new product components. This is already a well-established practice for certain categories of the collection and in no way compromises the quality and functionality of the product. The MOUNTAIN INSPIRED collection’s urban use models, for example, have outsoles made with 30% of recycled rubber and midsoles made with 20% of recycled EVA, suitably treated to ensure they are reliable and long-lasting. 5

La realizzazione di una forma è un processo lungo ed accurato nel quale si condensa la lunga esperienza di AKU nella progettazione e produzione di calzature di alta qualità. L’individuazione della forma in rapporto alla morfologia del piede rappresenta uno dei criteri di base nella scelta della giusta calzatura. La forma originaria AKU è la matrice, frutto di una costante ricerca sull’anatomia plantare. Da essa, grazie a specifici adattamenti, derivano le diverse tipologie di forma e di calzata, che variano in rapporto ai diversi modelli e alla specifica funzione d’uso del prodotto.

THE STUDY OF THE LAST

Creating a last is a lengthy and meticulous process in which all of AKU’s long experience in the design and production of high quality footwear converges. Identifying a last that corresponds perfectly to the morphology of the foot is one of the fundamental criteria in choosing the right fit. The primary AKU last is the basis of everything, the result of constant research into the anatomy of the sole of the foot. It is from this basic form, suitably adapted, that the different types of last and fit are derived; the type of last varies according to the different models and specific use requirements of each product.

AIR 8000® and AIR INFINITY are the two unique technological solutions utilised by AKU for engineering a breathable upper with the correct thermal balance. The both systems work on the technique of manifacturing and assemblage of the upper layers.

È la prima tecnologia per la costruzione della tomaia messa a punto e brevettata da AKU fin dal 1991 per elevare la capacità di traspirazione di una scarpa da montagna. Test di laboratorio confermano che la tomaia realizzata con il sistema esclusivo AKU AIR 8000® offre un livello di traspirazione fino a 11,5 volte superiore rispetto ai normali standard identificati da GORE-TEX®. This is the first technology for upper construction which AKU developed and patented as early as 1991 to increase the breathability of mountain footwear. Laboratory tests confirm that an upper made with the exclusive AKU AIR 8000® system offers up to 11.5 times greater breathability than normal standards identified by GORE-TEX®. Twenty years down the line, the AKU AIR 8000® system is still one of the most cutting-edge technologies which delivers outstanding breathability in mountain boots.

La tomaia in questo caso è realizzata mediante un sistema a strati composto da: un supporto in microfibra, materiale il 30% più leggero e traspirante della pelle, ulteriormente lavorato per essere alleggerito e reso più traspirante grazie ad un processo di foratura; un tessuto indemagliabile a tessitura tridimensionale che ne esalta le caratteristiche di leggerezza e traspirazione. Questi 2 strati vengono assemblati tramite un particolare processo di accoppiatura che ne garantisce la leggerezza e la traspirabilità tramite ampie aree libere di aerazione.

With the AIR INFINITY upper, AKU’s research on breathability is clearly shown in the cutting-edge constructional technique. In this case the upper is made using a layered system consisting of: a base in microfiber, a material that is already 30% lighter and more breathable than leather but has been worked, using a perforation process, to make it even more lightweight and more breathable; and a non-run 3-D woven fabric that enhances the features of lightness and breathability. These 2 layers are joined together with a spot bonding process that guarantees light weight and breathability because large areas for ventilation are left free.

INJECTION LASTING

AKU anche nelle calzature iniettate utilizza una speciale forma removibile in tutte le fasi di lavorazione, inclusa quella di allacciatura, di montaggio e quelle più critiche di raffreddamento e finissaggio. E’ proprio durante la post iniezione infatti che il poliuretano della suola memorizza la sua forma, che andrebbe perduta per la naturale tendenza del materiale a restringersi se non ci fosse all’interno della calzatura la forma removibile.

AKU uses a special removable last for injected footwear during the complete production process, when lacing, across assembly right through to the most critical fases of cooling and finishing. Especially during the cooling stage, after injection, the polyurethane sole memorizes its shape. This is also the stage when the polyurethane naturally shrinks, therefore if the last is removed the whole boot loses its shape.

The Internal Midsole System is an exclusive technology used in the construction of the AKU insole board. It couples the traditional support structure in nylon to a layer of microporous material. This system, which allows for the sole to perfectly capture the anatomy of the foot, ensures a uniform distribution of pressure, prevents from lateral and frontal slipping under heavy use, and provides shock absorption for an excellent wearing comfort.

The version IMS2, couples the Internal Midsole System to a thicker midsole in molded EVA or molded PU, in order to create the right balance between ground control and shock absorption. Both, maximum comfort of fit and ease of walking are ensured.

The Internal Midsole System is coupled with an Exoskeleton construction of medium density polyurethane for stability and protection, and a lightweight polyurethane inner part, which provides cushioning, shock absorption and high compressive strength. The GORE-TEX® membrane is an exclusive heat-sealed technical fabric which contains about 1.4 billion microscopic pores per square centimetre. These pores are approximately 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water but 700 times bigger than a molecule of moisture vapour. So whilst water droplets cannot penetrate the GORE -TEX membrane, moisture vapour, namely perspiration in gas form, can easily escape. The GORE-TEX® membrane is an exclusive heat-sealed technical fabric which contains about 1.4 billion microscopic pores per square centimetre. These pores are approximately 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water but 700 times bigger than a molecule of moisture vapour. So whilst water droplets cannot penetrate the GORE-TEX® membrane, moisture vapour, namely perspiration in gas form, can easily escape.

Internal Midsole System è una tecnologia esclusiva utilizzata da AKU nella costruzione del sottopiede di montaggio, che abbina alla tradizionale struttura di supporto in nylon uno strato in microporosa, posizionato internamente alla tomaia. Questo sistema garantisce una distribuzione uniforme della pressione del piede, impedisce scivolamenti laterali e frontali in fase di utilizzo intenso e offre al contempo assorbimento degli urti e ottimo comfort di calzata. A Internal Midsole System, nella versione IMS1 si abbina un’intersuola esterna in Eva microporosa sottile. In questo modo, grazie al profilo basso dell’intersuola, vengono garantite massima sensibilità, precisione e affidabilità per assicurare una risposta corretta e immediata alle sollecitazioni del terreno.

IMS

The Internal Midsole System is an exclusive technology used in the construction of the AKU insole. It couples the traditional support structure in nylon to a layer of microporous material at the interior of the upper. This system, which allows for the sole to perfectly capture the anatomy of the foot, ensures a uniform distribution of pressure, prevents from lateral and frontal slipping under heavy use, and provides shock absorption for an excellent wearing comfort. The version IMS1 combines the Internal Midsole System with an external midsole in a thin microporous EVA. In this way, thanks to the low profile of the midsole, it provides maximum sensitivity, precision and reliability to ensure a correct and instant reaction to uneven terrains.

The Internal Midsole System is coupled with an Exoskeleton construction made of middle density PU, which provides stability and protection, and a further internal part made of lightweight PU for an ideal cushioning, shock absorption and resistance to compression.

EXOSKELETON

La tecnologia Exoskeleton applicata alla suola trova l’utilizzo ideale nel modello Superalp GTX. L’intersuola è costituita da uno scheletro esterno in Poliuretano leggero, che salendo nella parte posteriore avvolge e protegge il tallone in modo da dare supporto e stabilità nella camminata. La struttura asimetrica, con il braccio interno più largo e il rialzo in poliureatano nella zona mediale, offre supporto al piede e aiuta a compensare l'eccesso di pronazione. The Exoskeleton technology of the sole is applied at its best in the model Superalp GTX. This is the first technology for upper construction which AKU developed and patented as early as 1991 to increase the breathability of mountain footwear. Laboratory tests confirm that an upper made with the exclusive AKU AIR 8000® system offers up to 11.5 times greater breathability than normal standards identified by GORE-TEX®. Evolution of the low cut IMS3 concept. Bi-material midsole with Exoskeleton construction. A midsole in soft, shock-absorbing EVA is bonded with a PU heel cup, which ensures stable support, protection of the inner EVA part and prolonged compressive strength. The heel cup has an asymmetrical construction and is thicker in the medial area to increase pronation support. The Vibram® outsole is made in a special compound called Megagrip, which provides exceptional traction on wet surfaces in particular while maintaining good resistance to abrasion.

The version IMS2, couples the Internal Midsole System to a thicker midsole in molded EVA or molded PU, in order to create the right balance between ground control and shock absorption. Both, maximum comfort of fit and ease of walking are ensured.

Stiftung Warentest è una fondazione tedesca nata nel 1964 su decisione del Parlamento Tedesco, con l’obiettivo di condurre test comparativi di prodotti e servizi al fine di orientare l’utilizzatore finale nei propri acquisti. Come risultato di un test condotto fra 15 delle più importanti marche presenti sul mercato tedesco, nel luglio del 2013 il modello TREKKER LITE II GTX ha ottenuto il riconoscimento come miglior prodotto nella categoria calzature da trekking. Particolarmente positivo il risultato del test di laboratorio condotto sulla presenza di eventuali sostanze tossiche contenute nelle principali componenti del prodotto. Per tale parametro TREKKER LITE II GTX è risultato essere la calzatura più sicura, ottenendo un coefficiente di 1,2 (molto buono).

Stiftung Warentest is a German foundation established in1964 by decision of the German Parliament with the aim of providing advice on products to end users by means of comparative testing. A test conducted in July 2013 on 15 of the most important brands on the German market resulted in TREKKER LITE II GTX being recognised as the best product in the trekking footwear category. The result of the laboratory test for any toxic substances in the main product components was particularly reassuring. TREKKER LITE II GTX proved to be the safest footwear with regard to this parameter, obtaining a coefficient of 1.2 (very good).

GORE-TEX® Performance comfort

La membrana GORE-TEX® contiene circa 1,4 miliardi di microscopici pori per centimetro quadrato. Questi pori sono circa 20.000 volte più piccoli di una goccia d’acqua, ma 700 volte più grandi di una molecola di vapore acqueo. Così, mentre le gocce d’acqua non possono penetrare nella membrana GORE-TEX®, il vapore acqueo, cioè il sudore in forma gassosa, fuoriesce facilmente. The GORE-TEX® membrane is an exclusive heat-sealed technical fabric which contains about 1.4 billion microscopic pores per square centimetre. These pores are approximately 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water but 700 times bigger than a molecule of moisture vapour. So whilst water droplets cannot penetrate the GORE -TEX® membrane, moisture vapour, namely perspiration in gas form, can easily escape.

COSTRUZIONE ___ Zaino pensato per escursioni e trekking in quota, con una capacità di 35 litri si presta ad un utilizzo tecnico in ambiente montano. Il peso contenuto (1400 grammi) e le caratteristiche di anatomicità, garantite anche dai sistemi di regolazione degli spallacci e dei lacci laterali, rendono questo zaino particolarmente confortevole da indossare, senza però sacrificare l’aspetto funzionale: coprizaino impermeabile, ricca dotazione di tasche laterali sulla parte superiore dello zaino, sistema di ventilazione della schiena per un fit ideale che, unitamente alle imbottiture attorno agli spallacci e al leggerissimo telaio in acciaio, garantisce la massima protezione dagli urti e dallo sfregamento. Tasche esterne integrate, cinghia di compressione laterale e anelli porta attrezzatura.

Boots designed for women have a number of common features based on the different shape of the female foot: 1 _ More pronounced foot arch: in keeping with the shape of the female foot, to provide greater support and stability and avoid the foot slipping forwards; 2 _ Narrower heel: increases lateral stability and sensitivity, avoids heel rubbing and, therefore, the risk of blisters; 3 _ Narrower toecap: stops the toes being pressed against the toe of the boot; 4 _ Narrower instep: gives a better fit for the female foot. A wider bellows tongue enables easier stepping-in. Another special detail is the boot cuff which tapers at the rear to ease pressure on the calf.

Le calzature studiate per il piede femminile infatti presentano una serie di caratteristiche comuni che tengono conto della sua specifica morfologia: 1 _ Arco plantare più pronunciato: nel rispetto dell’anatomia del piede femminile, per offrire maggiore supporto e stabilità ed evitare lo scivolamento in avanti; 2 _ Tallone più stretto: aumenta la stabilità laterale e la sensibilità, previene lo sfregamento del tallone e quindi il rischio di vesciche; 3 _ Volume dell’avanpiede più stretto: impedisce che le dita del piede vengano compresse contro la punta della calzatura; 4 _ Volume del collo del piede più stretto: per adattarsi all’anatomia del piede femminile. La struttura prevede una particolare conformazione del soffietto, che si presenta più ampio per facilitare l’entrata del piede. Un’altra caratteristica comune delle calzature femminili riguarda la struttura: i collarini sono infatti svasati nella parte posteriore per diminuire la tensione sul polpaccio.
