Founder and creator of the Danish jewelry brand JEWLSCPH, the 29-year-old is certainly a force within the Nordic jewelry industry when it comes to crafting handmade statement pieces for the individual woman. Following a passion that emerged at a

You were very young when you started JEWLSCPH in 2005. What initiated it? Jewelry is my passion, and from an early age, I knew my life and work had to include it somehow. So, in 2005, I decided to start my own business, and see where it would take me. How was the process from vision to reality? Very short. As soon as I realized I had to try and start my own business, the process went very fast. Since then, it has been, and it will always be, hard work. Having your own business is very hard work – and you got to love it. Even though I run the business today with my brother – and my mom and dad

The designs. Designing jewelry and being surrounded by so many beautiful precious stones and amazing designs every day is a true pleasure and I feel so lucky. Seeing how women shine with the right jewelry on and hearing the love stories that a lot of
shirt would never be able to do the same. Who is the woman you design for? I design for women, not just one woman. I design for women so they can find the right jewelry that embraces their personality and makes them even more beautiful. Therefore, my designs vary a lot since I believe every woman should be able to find the perfect piece of jewelry. Having said that, I design for women that – like myself – are focused on quality and only want to wear the best of the best, at a reasonable price.

But I also love my leather leggings and wear whatever is in fashion. I only wear fashion trends that suit
you and not just put on what everyone else is wearing. And one thing is for sure: you will never see me in “Sunday” clothes or without jewelry. Even on Sundays I dress up because I like to be well-dressed and well-jeweled is a very important part of my well-being. Has the jewelry industry in Scandinavia influenced you as a designer? Yes, of course. We have a very strong and highly respected doing my best to fill the same shoes as the big brands like Georg Jensen and Ole Lynggaard. But apart from that, my

The role of jewelry is of great importance in the fashion industry today, and the big fashion houses have become more aware of the fact that jewelry is what makes a style more personal. This can be seen during fashion weeks where jewelry brands have started creating their own shows, events, etc. Earlier, the catwalk was only for the clothing companies, but today would also dare to say that jewelry is more important than the clothes since we wear jewelry again and again and with a totally different love than when we wear a sweater. JEWLSCPH plays a great role in this development. I put great effort into being a part of the fashion industry on the same level as clothing brands and not being “just” an accessory to the clothes. So what is next for JEWLSCPH? Growing, growing, and growing!

Aurum & Enza Strong threads have been spun between African women in the ENZA organization and the Icelandic jewelry company Aurum. Guðbjörg Ingvarsdóttir, owner and designer of the Icelandic jewelry brand Aurum, has designed a jewelry collection to be produced in collaboration with ENZA, an Icelandic-African non-profit organization. ENZA’s mission is to support job creation and development for women in South Africa’s poorest neighborhoods – women who have not had an opportunity to grow and educate themselves. The main focus in ENZA’s work is girls and women who have been forced to give their children up for adoption as a result of their impoverished conditions. Women in ENZA’s workshop in South Africa produce the jewelry pieces that have been designed by Guðbjörg Ingvarsdóttir and which are then sold to support the organization. The jewelry collection is named Orion and alludes to the way the astrological constellation lights up the night sky and the lives of women all over the world. In Nordic mythology, the constellation was related to the goddess Freyja and her spinning wheel. In South Africa, women spin a better life for themselves with the help of the ENZA organization. The jewelry pieces that reflect this relationship are made from African cotton and metal, and they radiate both warmth and strength. They are colorful, have a beautiful form, and connect women from different parts of the world.

Sigga Heimis’ home is situated in her hometown, Seltjarnarnes, Iceland. Seltjarnarnes is where she grew up, but before settling there with her family, she lived in Sweden while working for IKEA and Fritz Hansen. For the past few years, she has run her own design studio Sigga Heimis from Iceland, designing and developing various solutions for clients from all over the world. She is now joining IKEA again as a member of
their range strategy team. You only need to spend a few minutes with Sigga to realize that she is impossible not to like. Her designs are quite likeable as well and are attracting worldwide attention. For example, a part of the line of glass organs she designed with Corning Museum of Glass will be auctioned off by Christy’s in New York. Read on for more about this interesting designer.

Aalto+Aalto A Design Duo to Watch Text: Sigríður Erla Viðarsdóttir
Elina and Klaus Aalto met in 1997 when studying together at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. They decided to start a joint design studio, Aalto+Aalto, in 2010 after working separately on design projects since 2000. Recently, they introduced the new Vakka storage plywood box for Iittala. Their design aesthetic is very eye-catching so we were interested to find out more about this husband and wife design duo that we are bound to see more from in the future.

HÖGNI REISTRUP Glowing Authenticity Written by Stephan Lücke
Högni Reistrup is a remarkable musician from the Faroe Islands who is currently exploring and composing within the electronic genre. Being born in what is said to be the smallest capital in the world has been a revolving theme in Högni’s music. Besides being passionate about creating his own music, the 29-year-old has always felt a need to tie the relatively isolated isles with the more urban areas and way of life. Högni released his new studio album, Áðrenn vit hvörva, this fall. To mark the occasion, we chatted with Högni about intense Nordic sound, dualities in life, and why he does not mind working in an ordinary job. You recorded your new album in Kreuzberg, a trendy district of Berlin. Why there? It was actually by a coincidence that I ended up recording my new album in the German capital. It all began at the release concert of my 2011 album at Sirkus, a warm and cozy bar in Tórshavn. It was a really good concert and the audience was amazing. After the concert, I talked to Ólavur Jákupsson, a Faroese musician and producer, who was in the audience. Ólavur liked my music and, before the evening was over, I had asked him to be co-producer on my next album. At that time, I did not even have songs for a new project. But it so happened that Ólavur lived in Berlin-Neukölln and had a studio nearby together with a German and a Polish guy. The winter of 2011 was a productive and creative period for me. And by the following spring, I had several new songs for a new album. Around that time, we started talking about recording my next album in Kreuzberg. How were the recording sessions? We had a blast. We really worked intensely with the songs and the overall production while being in the studio. Ólavur did some concerts at that time with Yann Tiersen, known for the soundtracks for Amélie and Goodbye Lenin, so he had to travel around Europe a bit during the recording session. Your album was also produced by Janus Rasmussen of Working with Janus is fantastic. I have worked with many different artists and people over the last decade, but I have never met a guy so passionate about music and the creative of any sort. If you are not in the mood for creating vivid soundscapes, he will definitely make an effort to cheer you up. Was it the first time you worked with Janus? Actually, Janus produced my 2011 album, Samröður við Framtíðina. We knew each other from the Tórshavn music scene and he was hooked when I sent him my first drafts and sketches for a new album. He came up with all sorts of ideas, many of which were realized on that album. So choosing a has given the music an ambient and glowing authenticity, and in a sense, I guess, quite an intense Nordic sound. How did you like Kreuzberg and Berlin in general? I must admit that I am a huge fan of Berlin, especially Kreuzberg and Neukölln. The atmosphere is relaxed and the people have is the perfect place to record because you have everything you need nearby, such as great Thai food and CLUB-MATE. You are such an amazing artist, so how come you still have an ordinary job at the municipality of Tórshavn, the capital
of the Faroe Islands? I have lived abroad for over eight years now. And when I listen to my instinct, being part of the small community in Tórshavn is the right thing for me at the moment. I feel that Tórshavn is where I belong. For the last couple of years, I have felt a yearning to return to the islands. I see myself as a hard-working person, but being a full-time musician has not been a workable opportunity if or when it should arrive! Basically, I need to feed but a nine-to-five job provides a secure base that gives me the privilege to compose music without thinking about whether I will be able to pay my rent. Do you like that job? Yes, definitely. Working within communications at Torshavn Municipality allows me to develop my professional skills and actually allows me to work creatively in areas other than music. And perhaps most importantly, my income allows me to look for new music gear, like synthesizers. I look forward to firmly settling down in Tórshavn and to combining my professional work with my music career.
Though it is an outrageously small capital, it is a charming place and the music scene is vibrant. And there is a pulsating youth culture, despite many young people leaving the islands, as I did, because of a lack of educational possibilities. We do have a university in Tórshavn that could be expanded, but, unfortunately, that has not been a political priority. What was it like to come back to the remoteness of the Faroe Islands after having lived for years in huge urban environments? I always feel renewed with energy every time I return to the islands. Everything is nearby. Of course, there is a natural environment that you can similarly find in many other places, but in the Faroe Islands, there is such short distance between the wind, mountains, water and the city. That always fascinates me. Are you planning to stay on the Faroes forsome time now? If you ring me in three years asking where I am situated, I am Tórshavn.” And if you ask me if I still enjoy it, my answer would be, “Yes!” When was your new album released and how can it be purchased? My album, Áðrenn vit hvörva – which literally means “before we disappear” – has been recently released on the Faroe Islands and, hopefully other countries will follow soon. The album will also be available on iTunes and Spotify. And on YouTube, you

will find music videos which I am planning to shoot as a part of my release. I have also already uploaded songs from my new album onto SoundCloud undir the name reistrup. Who wrote the songs and lyrics? From the very beginning, I have always written and composed songs on my own and it is the same on this album. Why do you sing exclusively in Faroese? It comes very naturally for me to sing in Faroese. I always say that if people from the Faroe Islands do not write and sing in Faroese, then who should? There are only 48,000 inhabitants on the islands, so I do see it as a duty and I feel it as a way of enhancing a tiny, yet beautiful language. That said, I do plan a follow up with in the spring. But I have not talked to any record labels about the English version yet, so who knows? For those who do not understand Faroese: What are your songs mainly about? Well, the lyrics on this album are some reflections on the different dualities in life. Dialectics like sorrow and happiness, coming of age and being old, acting as a free man and having all sorts of duties, making promises and abandoning promises. Not being able to understand anything from your lyrics, many of your songs sound quite melancholic. Is that a misconception? You understand Faroese, impressive! That is just what they are. It is funny because often you are able to understand much more of an unknown language just by listening to the different ways words and sounds are expressed. At their core, the lyrics have a melancholic character which I feel become aligned with the sound universe on Áðrenn vit Hvörva. Is melancholy a big part of your character? Perhaps I have become more melancholic, and maybe that is something that comes with getting older. There are so many things that we do not understand and there are so many things that we would like to understand. There is a complexity in modern life that I find fascinating and equally frightening. Some might say that this has something to do with Nordic thoughtfulness. And they might be absolutely right. Who are your biggest musical influences? Thom Yorke, the lead vocalist in Radiohead, is a huge inspiration. He is unpredictable and that is a fantastic human characteristic. Listen to the song “Hearing Damage” and you might agree. What do you want to accomplish as an artist? What is your ultimate goal? Being able to continue to do new compositions is, for me, the ultimate achievement. You never know when your basin of creativity will be empty. If that day should come, I will not give in without a fight. When did you start to make music and how did it happen? I formed my first band together with a friend of mine at the age of seven. We lived
behind a minimalistic drum kit. We played some cover tracks, but quite early on we began to write our own songs and dreamt of playing live at the public radio station. So, we recorded loads of tapes with our own songs and in the evenings, we sat down to listen to the recordings and chatted about how great we were. Funny memories for sure. Which were the most important milestones with you becoming a serious musician? The greatest motivation has been the increasing number of people that have become aware of my music and have put it on their iPhones and used it as the soundtrack to their everyday life. It makes me realize that those songs made in my emotionally. That makes me humble and thankful.

Orphan Bird is a clothing label founded in 2012 by the Swedish photographer and visual artist, Sara Lohman and the Italian designer, Ciro Supino. This collaboration captures the unique balance of pure minimalism with architectural details and well-tailored, limited edition pieces. Their experimental style brings sophistication, elegance, and craftsmanship to trends, but rather to create timeless and unconventional garments that follow their own natural shape. Italian elegance and Swedish aesthetics give your designs create a concept in order to have a red thread throughout all our unique touch. How is it to work together considering the two designs. We work with art, photography, and scene installations different cultural backgrounds and aesthetics? which are all crucial elements in our design development. How does a typical day look in your office? There is no typical day at the office because no two days are ever the same. You mention on your website that you are strongly engaged with the environmental standards in your design process. How do you achieve this and why is that important to you as fashion designers? As an emerging clothing label, we see ourselves as having the opportunity to change the fashion industry for the better in terms of environmental and ethical standards. We consider people too spoiled with cheap clothes. The essential element for us is to always design with a timeless philosophy. We work with a manufacturer who not only provides good quality sewing, but who also offers their employees good working conditions. We have decided to produce in Europe as it is easier to control and also that it is a shorter shipping distance in terms of pollution. We work with quality rather than quantity and we want our garments to be timeless – garments that come out of the closet year after year. So, do you consider yourselves closer to the slow fashion movement? Our opinion is rather divided. We see ourselves working at slow pace where each design has its own focal point. However, in order to reach out, we need to take into account that we have deadlines that are crucial and what is expected from you. How would you describe the Nordic style? If we were to describe the Nordic style in five words they would be: effortless, minimalistic, simplistic, skin but rather about keeping the body mysterious. What has been your biggest challenge as a small business? a clothing label. Although we are facing challenges as emerging designers, we will not let it overcome our tenacity and endurance. Place a sheet of parchment paper on the bottom of a square-shaped cake pan. Press the cookie mix on the bottom of the pan. Bake for 15 minutes. Pour the eggnog into a pot. Cut the vanilla bean in half, scoop out all the seeds, and mix into egg nog. Heat up over medium heat for 15 minutes. In a separate bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, and the eggs using an electronic mixer. Add the eggnog and mix well. Pour the cream cheese mixture on top of the crust and bake for 40 minutes or so - the topping is not supposed to get brown on top. Let cool for approximately 5 hours or until next day. If you want to speed up the cooling process, you can place it in the freeze once it is not hot anymore, or even place it outside (during the winter)!
Combine sugar, butter, syrup and chopped chocolate in a small pot. Place over medium heat and mix regularly. Let boil for 5-10 minutes. You will know that the batter is ready when you drop a small amount of the batter into cold water and it freezes. Trine Sandberg is the woman behind Norway’s biggest food blog, Trines Matblogg. Since 2007, she has shared recipes and inspiration with her readers across the nation. She works as a lawyer for the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, but recently cut her hours in half so she could increase her focus on her blog and the release of her new book, Trines Mat. Starting at the beginning of next year, she will focus solely on her blog. We heard what this multi-tasker had to say about food and Christmas traditions, and she shared with us a recipe for delicious rice pudding (risalamande). How did you get your interests in food and what initiated that you started blog about it? From a young age, I was allowed to try out my skills in the kitchen and took this interest with me when I moved away from home. I started my blog by accident almost seven years ago. I wanted to collect all my recipes and food experiences in one place, mostly for myself, but I also gave my family and friends the link since they often asked me for recipes and food advice. At that time, I did not have a clue what an amazing journey this blog would take me on. What is your food philosophy? My philosophy is that you make the best and healthiest food yourself and that it does not have to be difficult or timeconsuming. I also believe that a little bit of everything is allowed in moderation - you should treat yourself once in a while! I am also interested in the social aspect of what happens around the dining table, whether it is every day or a dinner party. My vision is that my food blog will inspire others to cook and eat healthy, colorful, and good food. What is the most essential thing to make for Christmas? I always bake ginger biscuits with my children and grandchildren. We use the same recipe that my mom used when I was a little girl. It has also become a cherished tradition to make confectioneries with my grown-up daughters and then I
decorate a gingerbread house with my five-year-old son. Other than that, I bake a few different sorts of Christmas cookies and some good bread. Do you have a traditional food on Christmas Eve or are you open for experimentation? We eat ribs with good side dishes on Christmas Eve, then rice pudding with homemade sauce for dessert. And at Christmas, we eat lamb ribs, venison, and cod with nice side dishes. And we always eat homemade pizza between Christmas and New Tell us about your new book. Trines Mat is a practical cookbook containing eight dinner menus that provide varied dinner tips throughout the week, and one dessert tip. In addition, it has ten themed chapters which include my top breakfast tips, my best fish recipes, the best food to eat with friends, pizza recipes, romantic Saturday menus, and my favorite cake. RISALAMANDE (serves 6-8 people)
Rice Pudding For the pudding 200 g rice 2 dl water (approx.) 1 liter milk 1 vanilla stick
In a heavy-bottomed pot, bring the water and rice to a boil. Meanwhile, split the vanilla bean in half lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add them to the milk. Reserve the bean. Once the rice is boiling, lower the heat to medium and add the milk and vanilla gradually, stirring constantly until it starts to bubble but not boil. Add the reserved vanilla bean and then lower the heat to the lowest setting and let simmer for approximately 50 minutes. Once it is done, you can add a pinch of salt to taste and then set the pudding aside to cool completely.
Rice Cream For the pudding cream 4-5 Tbsp crème fraîche 3.5 dl whipping cream 2-4 Tbsp sugar
Once the pudding has cooled completely, remove the vanilla bean and stir in the crème fraîche. In a separate bowl, whip the whipping cream together with the sugar. (You can reduce the amount of the whipped cream depending on how creamy you want the rice pudding to be.) Gently fold the cream into the pudding with a spatula. Sprinkle chopped almonds or pistachios on top for decoration.
Raspberry sauce For the raspberry sauce 1 dl water 150 gr sugar (approx.) 1 vanilla stick 400 gr raspberries, frozen or fresh The juice of 1/2 a lemon
Put water and sugar into a pot and bring to a boil. Split the vanilla bean in half lengthwise and scrape out the seeds. Put the seeds and the bean into the syrup and leave to cool. Add the raspberries and let the mixture sit for a bit (until the berries have thawed if using frozen berries). Remove the vanilla bean and the puree the mixture in a food processor or blender. With my husband, I like to go skiing and enjoy good food with a glass of wine, but that can be a bit challenging twith an eleven-month-old baby and a toddler. My dream would be to have a weekend trip with my husband somewhere.
What is your favorite place in the whole world?
Over the past few years, a food revolution and a big conversation about organic food has started. What do you think about it?
I would stay at Lydmar. It is a lovely hotel and they have very good food. I would have breakfast at Zinc - although they also serve wonderful lunch and dinner. I would take a walk around Rosendal Garden and have coffee there. Karlaplan has a divine pastry shop and bakery called Broms that is worth visiting. My pick for a dinner place would definitely be Ekstedt. It is a cool place where they prepare food by an open fire. Definitely a place to go if you are looking for great food and extraordinary dinner experience.
I think it is great. I love to use pure and organic food. I think there should be more options and stores that offer good quality, organic products. I think that people do not question enough the food they eat. It is scary how many preservatives and other things are put in our food. Liquorice and Chocolate Caramel Fudge
What you need: (Approximately 24 pieces) 2 cups whipping cream 1 3/4 cup dark muscovado sugar 2 cups glucose syrup 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
100 g butter, softened 1 Tbsp liquorice powder
What to do: the heat on your stovetop a little because the mixture heats up on the hot fudge mixture! from the stove and add the chocolate, cocoa, and liquorice
powder. Mix well. Add the butter in little pieces. Cover about 10 x 20 cm of baking pan (including the edges) with plastic wrap and pour the fudge mixture on top of the plastic. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and leave it to cool and solidify at room temperature. Once the fudge is solid and cooled down, cut it up into little pieces and serve.

And to minimize the risk of overeating, keep your portion sizes balanced, chew your food, and give yourself time to enjoy and savour your meal in the company of family and friends. #4 Get active! Avoiding or shying away from any sort of physical activity during the festive season is the worst thing you can do since physical exercise can increase your energy levels, have a positive impact on your mood, and bring your stress levels

If possible, get moving in an oxygenfilled environment (like outside!) so you increase the possibility of getting into fatburning mode. have time for a full workout, search for fitness applications on iTunes (such as Starters – Fitness or RunKeeper) that offer a variety of mini-workout videos. Oranges, tangerines, cranberries, red peppers, and lemon can easily be included in your Christmas recipes or can be enjoyed solo. #6 Mind your digestion and vegetables because your body more easily absorbs water from foods than by just drinking water alone. Stick to complex, high-quality carbohydrates and try to steer away from added sugars as much as you can. Animal proteins can be harder to digest than plant proteins, so keep your meals balanced. Too much protein can induce digestive problems, making you feel bloated.

Salt & Pepper Potato Chips
Great dips that you can use with the chips! Creamy Pecan & Cranberry Dip 1 dl pecans 1 dl cranberries 1/2 of a yellow onion 5 small mushrooms 2 Tbsp high-quality coconut oil 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
2 medium-sized sweet potatoes 3 Tbsp high-quality sesame oil 3/4 tsp cayenne powder
Peel the potatoes and thinly slice them using a mandolin. In a large bowl, mix the potato slices with the oil and cayenne powder, making sure to coat all the slices. Put the slices on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake for approximately 1 hour, turning them every 15 minutes to get them to turn crunchy and delicious.

Set aside. together with the other ingredients. Mix all the ingredients together using either a handheld blender food processor, pulse until coarsely blended.
