Message from the Editors I would like to commend everyone for a job well done in publishing another successful press material. I believe that this is not the first time that the TCC Quill has triumphantly proven that press material is not just mere material, it is a sort of relevant material that must be highly regarded in all corners to inform and make people aware of what is happening around. Also, without the dedication and skills of my fellow student journalists, this success would not be possible. In that sense alone, I am very grateful for everyone who is part of this triumph. I would also like to greatly extend my warmest gratitude to dearest publication adviser, Ma’am Lyndel Cabañero, and to our Editor-in-Chief, Ms. Chrisjean Limpiado for the

I started as a news writer in English, and who would’ve thought that this bunch of people would believe in me and put me in a position with big responsibility? They pushed me beyond my limits and inspired me to believe in my inner self. I also thought of resigning due to some significant personal reasons, but with these individuals, I gained the courage to continue. The same was true with this magazine, “Dasig” where I learned how to say “Dasig lang.” To those who dreamed with fear, fear not and start to believe in yourself that you will because you can. “I know that the state of the nation is sound, and is improving.

We've been through times of bitter division but united we came through to this when we shall begin again. Walking Tall:

Overcoming Disability with Ability

I

n a world often preoccupied with the pursuit of perfection, Ivan T. Aparilla, a 21year-old and a third-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) student, stands as a testament to people who had once lost their indomitable human spirit. His story is not just one of resilience but also an inspiring tale of acceptance, illustrating how determination and bravery can turn one's disability into an opportunity for growth and inspiration.

“ IVAN T. APARILLA, 21

Bachelor of Elementary Education

Ivan's journey began with a tragic vehicular accident that occurred when he was just two years old. Recounting the incident, he shared that his mother was holding him when his upper shirt got entangled into the motor's wheel. Although he was successfully revived, the accident left him and his left leg severely affected, hindering its chance of recovering. While doctors presented him a glimmer of hope for recovery, however, limited financial resources led the family to accept the reality and cherish Ivan's life instead. Four years had passed, Ivan's condition bore with stoicism— a belief that people don't have the control over things, or even much, of what may happen in life. Still and all, Ivan reflected on the circumstance that he had, allowing him to question the life he never imagined of having at the age of 18. His yearning to have the legs that most ordinary people have, led him to feel jealous at times as he watched other people move freely. “I wanted to be a policeman," Ivan shared with a smile, but he was sensible enough to know that daydreaming about what might have been would not change his reality. Instead, he chose to embrace his condition and use it as a source of inspiration for his future students. In this instance, he wants to consider and reflect that perhaps, his calling is not to be a policeman, but rather to shape and inspire someone to become one. Consequently, Ivan admits that even some negative thoughts are still creeping into his mind, he still, with all his might, refuses to let those consume him. He firmy believes that if he lets his circumstance get the upper hand, it will just jeopardize his goals in life. That is why, instead of aiming on things that are not even there, he opts to celebrate what he has got and tries to find solace in the idea that even though his left leg is no longer the same as it was, he still considers himself as a blessed and a fortunate human being despite his condition.

In matters of the heart, Ivan still faces another kind of challenge; he concerns himself with the idea that his condition may pose a hurdle on his personal relationships. Nevertheless, in spite of some hard questions he sometimes throw to the world and even to himself, he still tries to live for the hope of it all that someday, someone will see his physical limitations as something worthy of anything and not a burden nor an impairment to love someone and be loved by someone. The story of Ivan T. Aparilla reminds all of us that having a disability does not diminish our humanity; rather, it amplifies our strengths and motivates our spirits to make it all through despite everything. With Ivan's ways of overcoming the waves of his life, he only proves the notion that one's disability can never suppress a person who has a resilient heart and a determined mind. This captivating story, in addition, allows us to reflect that we may all bear our own burdens in life, however, we just need to take note that we don't have to carry everything at once, especially if it feels too much to carry on our ends. To put everything into account, Ivan's story is a notable testament to everyone— who are currently dealing with their own battles— that we can definitely transcend our physical limitations into something bigger by dreaming bigger. Today, as he looks back on his journey, he has a message for his younger self and likewise to everyone: “If you encounter challenges along the way, remember that you can overcome them. Just keep pushing forward; as long as you can handle it, you can do it. If it becomes too heavy to endure, it's okay to take a break. You don't have to bear an excessive burden, especially if it becomes too much to carry.”

I have a short period of time to prepare for this, but God is really amazing." Ms. Lomoljo said. Mr. Villahermosa also expressed his great enjoyment and gladness as his effort finally paid off. The eight pairs of candidates have faced the preliminary interview and have been trimmed down to three to stop over for the final interview. The winning question for Ms. Maria is, "Do you like in the notion that this generation is self-entitled?" She answered, "I actually have two points for this. My first point is that self-entitlement is good because no other than ourselves will always have to boost our confidence and worth. However, my second point is it should be practiced in moderation. Embracing self-confidence and worth while maintaining a healthy equilibrium can pave the way to a fulfilling and healthy life." As for Mr. Romjomes, he was asked, "How will you encourage your fellow students to continue going?" He answered, "I would show and remind those students who are suffering any circumstances that I also suffered many challenges to finish my studies. Obstacles are included to achieve your dreams. As a student, you just have to believe in yourself." Wearing their yellow tog, which symbolizes optimism, energy, joy, happiness, and friendship, their answers made a huge impact on the audience—especially students—displaying not just their elegant physique but also a mind that could uplift the people 16
