FROM THE RPOS DIRECTOR Thousands of children are making lifelong memories at our summer camps all throughout Norfolk. Are you ready to make some of your own? With all that Recreation, Parks & Open Space has to offer it can be hard to know where to start. Our beaches are fun and relaxing- you can take a dip in the ocean, enjoy the sounds of the ocean or read a good book. If you forget to bring one, you are welcome to borrow one from one of the new little free libraries at Ocean View Beach, Sarah Constant Beach, and Community Beach. Just remember to pack your sunblock to stay safe in the sun. Our indoor and outdoor pools and splash pads are another way to stay cool in the summer heat. And our many parks offer shade from the sun’s rays. Have you met Bill the Bear at Bay Oaks Park? Or seen the refurbished trolley stop in Lafayette Park? All throughout July we are celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month by introducing you to some of the hidden gems in Norfolk. Plus, we will have fun challenges for the whole family. Don’t miss your chance to win great prizes when you share your photos at #NorfolkParks. You can find all the details below. Summer fun is just outside your door. Let us help you find all the ways to enjoy summertime in Norfolk. Sincerely,
Darrell R. Crittendon, CPRP Director, Recreation, Parks & Open Space
