Greetings from the Headmaster,

As

we approach the end of the 2016-17 school year, we have many opportunities to come together and celebrate in the successes at Norfolk Collegiate. From awards ceremonies to senior project presentations to games, plays and musicals, our spring is filled with events that highlight what it means to be an Oak. Tonight’s event, Carnival & Annual Auction, is a great example. Tonight, as we gather together to raise money, remember that every dollar raised will directly benefit every student in every classroom in every grade. Because of the generous support of our donors, we are able to provide a great education for our students. Tonight allows us to go “over and beyond” to provide resources to the arts, athletics, academics, technology and professional development. Please enjoy the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, sponsors, advertisers and donors as you bid on the wide variety of baskets, certificates, trips and treasures! We encourage you to bid high and bid often and of course, enjoy your night! Scott G. Kennedy

CARNIVAL GAME RULES To participate in the carnival games, guests must purchase a voucher for $20 at the carnival games station (please refer to map for station location). Once you purchase your voucher(s), you can turn it in the game attendant. Each voucher gives the player three chances or tries at one of the games. For each successful try, the player will receive one carnival game raffle ticket into a special drawing. Upon the conclusion of the carnival games at 9:15 p.m., a winner will be drawn for a $1,000 cash prize!

RESTAURANT ROW “BUY IT NOW” RULES This year we are excited to continue Restaurant Row in our Swag entertainment section. We have featured a variety of gift cards and certificates to local dining establishments that can be won by the first bid! Bid sheets for this particular section will include “buy it now” listed prominently on that card with only one line for a bid number. The first and only bid number on that sheet will win that card...no bidding war necessary! All Restaurant Row gift cards and certificates will be stored at check out. FUND AN ITEM: VIRTUAL REALITY HEADSETS

FUND AN ITEM GOAL: $20,000 Imagine you’re in your geography class, learning about Peru. Instead of handing out a map, your teacher passes out virtual reality headsets to each student. You and your classmates put on these headsets and travel virtually on a walking tour through Machu Picchu. You can look around in every direction, taking in every detail. You haven’t just learned about Peru, you’ve been there and experienced it yourself. This year’s fund-an-item will bring virtual reality to our students with Google Daydream View, the brand new virtual reality headset designed to work with dozens of educational virtual reality apps and experiences. With the Google Daydream View our students will visit famous museums, take virtual science lessons in biology and physics, learn foreign languages while visiting far away cities and more. The goal of this year’s fund an item is to purchase two classroom sets of Google Daydream View headsets, one for the lower school and one for the middle and upper school. “Fund An Item” is a reverse auction. Our goal is to have 100% participation from every auction-goer here tonight! Through the support of everyone in the room, we will be able to make a HUGE impact in helping our students be the best they can be! 14 Carnival

MRS. THOMSON’S & MRS. LINDALE’S FIRST-GRADE CLASSES Bird Painting This canvas was created by our first-grade students. Each student added one fingerprint on each bird to create a one-of-a-kind canvas that would be perfect for any playroom or dining room! Every student was excited to add his or her part and took his or her time to carefully select the perfect place for each fingerprint. They even choose their own color and were able to weave them in as they saw fit. The quote on this photo is simple, but perfectly fits into any parent’s life. They were impressed to see how all of their fingerprints added up to each bird. MRS. KRAFT’S & MRS. MOTTINGER’S SECOND-GRADE CLASSES Popcorn Party Set The second-grade classes donated a large ceramic popcorn “box” and four ceramic serving “bags” from Color Me Mine. These fun pieces are painted on the outside to mimic the classic red and white striped popcorn containers used at carnivals and movie theaters. To make our set extra special, each student imprinted the inside of the large container with his or her fingerprint, and Color Me Mine fashioned each to look like popped popcorn! Gourmet kernels and salts round out our set, perfect for a movie night at home.
