Gustav Segerqvist moved into town to work as a carpenter. Gustav said goodbye to construction work, bought a bike and a suitcase and set out to sell goods... Segers’ history starts in 1943, when Gustav Segerqvist established a ready-made garments business. Gustav’s father had been a door-to-door salesman, so commerce was in the family’s blood. Gustav ran the business for several decades until 1978, when daughter Mona took it over. She began to focus more on the production of lightweight workwear, particularly for restaurants, where Mona soon built personal relationships with the chefs of the day. Production was spread across small units in the immediate locality, mainly in the form of home dressmakers. In 1984, son Roger took over the reins at Segers. This was the starting point for the development of Segers that has led to the company’s strong market position today. The company opened its first factory in 1996, in Estonia, followed in 2006 by another production facility in Ukraine. Today, Segers owns the entire production chain, from manufacturing in their own factories to in-house design and product development, and – as we have for 40 years – in close partnership with our customers. Segers celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2013, and established new sales offices in Estonia (for the Baltic market) and the Netherlands (for the Benelux countries).

YOU CAN BE SURE OF THAT! Since 1992, the Öko-Tex Standard 100 has become an international measure of reliability throughout the entire fabrics chain. The Öko-Tex system ensures that fabrics that have passed the tests and been certified do not contain harmful substances. The list of requirements contains over 100 test parameters to ensure that the fabrics are not harmful.

ORGANIC COTTON The definition of ‘organic cotton’ garments is that the cotton is organically grown and the fabric is manufactured according to ÖKO-TEX criteria.

REACH

REACH is a regulation of chemical legislation that protects us and the environment from chemical hazards. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals and provides a single system for chemicals regulation within the European Union.

SEGERS WORKS ACTIVELY Segers is part of the Swedish Chemicals Group, which continuously follows the registration and evaluation of new and old substances linked to textiles in order to ensure that the products provided to customers do not entail any health risks. SEGERS’ ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT Recent years have seen environmental issues come to the fore, and today these issues have a prominent place in our business concept. Our customers are becoming more and more environmentally committed, which is reflected in their purchases of clothing. They require their suppliers to be environmentally certified. That is why we began to introduce the ISO 14001 environmental management system in November 1998. ISO certification was completed in May 2000.

PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY By having this certification, we at Segers accept our responsibility as a producer and are committed to helping Sweden become one of the best recycling countries in the world. Sweden introduced producer responsibility for packaging in 1994. This means that any company which manufactures, imports or sells packaging is responsible for the collection and recycling of its packaging.
