Amidst a neighborhood infused with new energy, 140 Broadway is an ideal location with easy access to transit, a wide variety of dining options, new shops opening daily, and many more area amenities on the way.

Object Accuracy and Hybrid Object – will focuson the complete modeling and documenting of all the component pieces of the chosen object using the demonstrated 2D and 3D drawing and modeling techniques.

The presedent study of Ronchamp, and the Church of the light. I n 1 9 5 0 , L e C o r b u s i er was commissioned to design a new Catholic church to replace the previous church that had been destroyed during World War II.

The building project is about 50,000 sq. ft. This size will enable interiority explorations between the volumetrically larger auditorium, gym, and cafeteria, the classrooms, and the suporting offices and circulation spaces.

A Narrative is defined as an account of connected events; a story. As a representation tool a narrative can be used as conceptual device to connect the existing condition and speculate on a new condition for which an image exists. For the first six weeks students will craft an image which assembles a range of techniques from integrated drawing, modeling and photography.

140 BROADWAY The basic idea of the project is to convert 2D parrterns into 3D architecture in reality. The site of the project is a public plaza at 140 Broadway, which has a dominant red cube sculpture. Amidst a neighborhood infused with new energy, 140 Broadway is an ideal location with easy access to transit, a wide variety of dining options, new shops opening daily, and many more area amenities on the way.

HYBRID CREATION This next phase of the project – Object Accuracy and Hybrid Object – will focuson the complete modeling and documenting of all the component pieces of the chosen object using the demonstrated 2D and 3D drawing and modeling techniques. These new hybrid drawings can be created through combination, overlap, connecting, etc. of the component pieces.

Completed in 1989, the Church of the Light was a renovation to an existing Christian compound in Ibaraki. The new church was the first phase to a complete redesign of the site – later completed in 1999 – under Ando’s design aesthetic. For Ando, the Church of Light is an architecture of duality – the dual nature of existence – solid/void, light/dark, stark/serene. The coexisting differences leave the church void of any, and all, ornament creating a pure, unadorned space. The intersection of light and solid raises the occupants awareness of the spiritual and secular within themselves.
