If you've been on an antidepressant for at least 6 weeks and are still struggling with depression, having ABILIFY® (aripiprazole) added to your antidepressant may help with unresolved symptoms as early as 1 -2 weeks.* ABILIFY is a prescription medicine used to treat depression in adults as add -on treatment to an antidepressant when an antidepressant alone is not enough.

Important Safety Information Elderly patients with dementia -related psychosis (eg, an inability to perform daily activities due to increased memory loss) taking ABILIFY have an increased risk of death or stroke. ABILIFY is not approved for treating these patients. Antidepressants can increase suicidal thoughts and behaviors in

children, teens, and young adults. Serious mental illnesses are themselves associated with an increase in the risk of suicide. When taking AI3ILIFY call your doctor right away if you have new or worsening depression symptoms, unusual changes in behavior, or thoughts of suicide. Patients and their caregivers should be especially observant within the first few months of treatment or after a change in dose. Approved only for adults 18 and over with depression. Call your doctor if you develop high fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, changes in pulse, heart rate and blood pressure, as these may be signs of a condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), a rare and serious condition that can lead to death If you have diabetes or have risk factors or symptoms of diabetes, your blood sugar should be monitored. High blood sugar has been reported with ABILIFY and medicines like it. In some cases, extremely high blood sugar can lead to coma or death

Changes in cholesterol and triglyceride (fat, also called lipids) levels in the blood have been seen in patients taking medicines like

If you develop uncontrollable facial or body movements, call your doctor, as these may be signs of tardive dyskinesia (TD). TD may not go away, even if you stop taking ABILIFY. TD may also start after you stop taking ABILIFY

Other risks may include lightheadedness upon standing, decreases

in white blood cells (which can be serious), seizures, trouble swallowing, or impairment in judgment or motor skills. Until you know how ABILIFY affects you, you should not drive or operate machinery

The common side effects in adults in clinical trials ( >_10 %) include nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, dizziness, an inner sense of restlessness or need to move (akathisia), anxiety, insomnia and restlessness. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you're taking, since there are some risks for drug interactions. You should avoid alcohol while taking ABILIFY.

You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov /medwatch, or call 1- 800 - FDA -1088.

Please read the additional Important Information about ABILIFY on the adjacent page.

Ask your doctor about the option of adding ABILIFY.

Both sides have agreed to settle to avoid the costs and risks of trial. A Court has not decided which side is right. Am I included?

Wash by Margaret Wrinkle 1****

WASH

.A

REVIEWED BY HELEN ROGAN

A descendant of slaveholders, the Alabama -bred Margaret Wrinkle boldly tackles her heritage in this debut novel, and it's a marvel. By turns grim and lyrical, heartwrenching and hopeful, Wash takes place in ear ly-1800's Tennessee, where settlers and their slaves are inextricably bound in a web of oppression, powerful secrets and small moments of decency. Three people dominate Wrinkle's story: Richardson, a tortured landowner, chafes at the system that NOVEL

humiliation and violence by retreating into the spirituality bequeathed him by his West African mother. And Pallas, a

midwife and healer, tries to protect

Wash, whom she loves, with ancient rem f edies. In their different ways, all three sense that change is coming. "This will tilt and fade

and crumble in the long run. The only question is just how long is the long run, and can they hang on long enough to make it?" With their voices resonating in your head, you'll wish they could have.

CLOCKWISE

Inspired by the lives of Flannery O'Connor and poet Robert Lowell, Bauer's first novel is a moving tale about kindred spirits who meet at a writer's colony in 1957. The book showcases an era in which literature and intellect were celebrated; its epistolary form lends itself to a delightful exchange of ideas as the protagonists dance with the possibility of love -and face its disappointments. AS HE FINALLY RETURNS TO GOOD MORNING AMERICA, THE ANCHOR SHARES HER EMOTIONAL CANCER BATTLE 4 Sharon Cot liar e.ra h Nigel Parry

Sitting in a white fluffy bathrobe in front of her bathroom mir-

ror, Robin Rciberts-still recuperating from a bone marrow transplant just five months earlier-seems at ease with her striking reflection. Just as she was after battling breast cancer in 2007, Roberts is once again bald, but this time she's skipping the wig. "Whatever," the Good Morning America anchor says with a shrug. "I'm thankful I have a pretty-good-shaped head." And the 30 lbs. she's lost from her 5'10" frame during her monthlong hospital stay? "It's been hard to ut back on, a first in my life," she admits. "But _

I gained a pound last week in New Orleans. Woo-hoo!" And when Charlie Gibson, an old friend and former GMA cohort, drops by her Manhattan apartment and asks how she is, she replies as if nothing eventful has

happened: "I'm good. How are you?" she says casually. "No, I wasn't being polite," Gibson replies. "I really want to know, 'How are you?'" That's the question millions have been asking ever since the anchor left GMA last August to undergo a bone marrow transplant for a rare blood-and-bone-ma w disease called myelodysplastic syndrome, which can lead to a fas -growing form of leukemia. "Every day I feel more like my old self. I didn't think I would," Roberts says, noting that she was so weak when she left the hospital in October, she could barely walk. While some shaky moments persist-"I've still got chemo brain and my vision is blurry' Roberts is eager to return to her GMA anchor chair at last on Feb. 20, exactly five months after her transplant. "You feel so bad for so long, you just want to feel normal. And now I do."

soon picked herself up and decided to go ahead with the grueling process of a

bone marrow transplant; luckily her sister was a perfect match. Just as she was about to begin treatment, another life-altering event intervened: Roberts

had to race home to Pass Christian, Miss., during Hurricane Isaac to say goodbye to her ailing mother, who died just hours after Roberts reached her on Aug. 30. The trip came at a pivotal moment for the terrified Roberts. "I don't care how old you are; when you're sick, you want your mom," she says, choking up. "And I wanted my mom."

guard, Gregory. He'd be there every morning, and we'd talk sports, politics, life. He was like my lifeline," Roberts recalls. She also decided to "bling out" her actual lifeline: the IV pole attached to her. "I put disco balls on it," she says. "It was a cool IV pole. Even the nurses, when I was walking down the hall, were like, 'You go, girl," she says with a laugh. As for the actual bone marrow trans-

Having been warned that "at one point I would feel I was dying," Roberts

says, she soon reached just such a breaking point. Fading in and out of consciousness, "I was in a pain I had never experienced before, physically and mentally," she recalls. "I was in a coma-like state. I truly felt I was slip-

With that in mind, Roberts has come to believe that the timing of her mom's passing-days before her bone marrow transplant-was a gift. Important Safety Information About PRISTIQ Suicidality and Antidepressant Drugs Antidepressants increased the risk compared to placebo of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in children, teens, and young adults. Depression and certain other psychiatric disorders are themselves associated with increases in the risk of suicide. Patients of all ages who are started on antidepressant therapy or when the dose is changed should be monitored appropriately and observed closely for clinical worsening, suicidality, or unusual changes in behavior such as becoming agitated, irritable, hostile, aggressive, impulsive, or restless. Should these occur, report them to a doctor. PRISTIQ is not approved for use in children under 18. People taking MAOIs should not take PRISTIQ. Tell your healthcare professional about all prescription and over -the -counter medications you are taking or plan to take, including: medicines to treat migraines or psychiatric disorders, to avoid a potentially life -threatening condition; and aspirin, NSAID pain relievers, or blood thinners because they may increase the risk of bleeding. PRISTIQ may cause or make some conditions worse, so

tell your healthcare professional about all your medical conditions, including: High blood pressure, which should be controlled before you start taking PRISTIQ and monitored regularly Heart problems, high cholesterol or triglyceride levels or a history of stroke, glaucoma or increased eye pressure, kidney or liver problems, low sodium levels in your blood Have or had bleeding problems Have or had depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior Mania, bipolar disorder, or seizures or convulsions If nursing, pregnant, or plan to become pregnant

FACTS ABOUT AI desvenlafaxine RELEASE SAILEIS

Pristiq (desvenlafaxine)

Extended- Release Tablets

Read the Medication Guide that comes with you or your family member's antidepressant medicine. Talk to your, or your family member's, healthcare provider about: all risks and benefits of treatment with antidepressant medicines all treatment choices for depression or other serious mental illness

What is the most important information I should know about antidepressant medicines, depression and other serious mental illnesses. and suicidal thoughts or actions? 1. Antidepressant medicines may increase suicidal thoughts or actions in some children, teenagers, and young adults within the first few months of treatment. 2. Depression and other serious mental illnesses are the most important causes of suicidal thoughts and actions. Some people may have a particularly high risk of having suicidal thoughts or actions. These include people who have (or have a family history of) bipolar illness (also called manic -depressive illness) or suicidal thoughts or actions. 3. How can I watch for and try to prevent suicidal thoughts and actions in myself or a family member? Pay close attention to any changes, especially sudden changes, in mood, behaviors, thoughts, or feelings. This is very important when an antidepressant medicine is started or when the dose is changed.

Malignant Syndrome (NMS) -like reactions can happen when medicines such as Pristiq are taken with certain other medicines. Serotonin syndrome or NMS -like reactions can cause serious changes in how your brain, muscles. heart and blood vessels, and digestive system work.

Especially tell your healthcare provider if you take the following: medicines to treat migraine headaches known as triptans St. John's Wort MAOIs (including linezolid, an antibiotic) tryptophan supplements silbutramine tramadol

medicines used to treat mood, anxiety, psychotic, or thought disorders, including tricyclics, lithium, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI5), or serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), antipsychotic drugs, or other dopamine antagonists, such as metoclopramide

Ask your healthcare provider if you are not sure whether you are taking any of these medicines. Before you take Pristiq with any of these medicines, talk to your healthcare provider about serotonin syndrome. See "What are the possible side effects of Pristiq ?"

Pristiq contains the medicine desvenlafaxine. Do not take Pristiq with other medicines containing venlafaxine or desvenlafaxine. Switching from other antidepressants Side effects from discontinuing antidepressant medication have occurred when patients switched from other antidepressants, including venlafaxine, to Pristiq. Your doctor may gradually reduce the dose of your initial antidepressant medication to help reduce these side effects.

What should I avoid while taking Pristiq? Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how Pristiq affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Pristiq.

Call the healthcare provider right away to report new or sudden changes in mood, behavior, thoughts, or feelings.

What are the possible side effects of Pristiq?

Keep all follow -up visits with the healthcare provider as scheduled. Call the healthcare provider between visits as needed, especially if you have concerns about symptoms.

Pristiq can cause serious side effects, including: See the beginning of this page.

Call a healthcare provider right away if you or your family member has any of the following symptoms, especially if they are new, worse, or worry you:

Serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)) like reactions. See "What should I tell my healthcare provider before taking Pristiq.

thoughts about suicide or dying trouble sleeping (insomnia) attempts to commit suicide new or worse depression acting aggressive, being angry or violent new or worse anxiety

acting on dangerous impulses feeling very agitated or restless an extreme increase in activity and talking (mania) panic attacks other unusual changes in behavior or mood

What else do I need to know about antidepressant medicines? Never stop an antidepressant medicine without first talking to a healthcare provider. Stopping an antidepressant medicine suddenly can cause other symptoms.

Antidepressants are medicines used to treat depression and other illnesses. It is important to discuss all the risks of treating depression and also the risks of not treating it. Patients and their families or other caregivers should discuss all treatment choices with the healthcare provider, not just the use of antidepressants.

Antidepressant medicines have other side effects. Talk to the healthcare provider about the side effects of the medicine prescribed for you or your family member. Antidepressant medicines can interact with other medicines. Know all of the medicines that you or your family member takes. Keep a list of all medicines to show the healthcare provider. Do not start new medicines without first checking with your healthcare provider. Not all antidepressant medicines prescribed for children are FDA approved for use in children. Talk to your child's healthcare provider for more information.

Important Information about Pristiq Read the patient information that comes with Pristiq before you take Pristiq and each time you refill your prescription. There may be new information. If you have questions, ask your healthcare provider. This information does not take the place of talking with your healthcare provider about your medical condition or treatment.

Pristiq is a prescription medicine used to treat depression. Pristiq belongs to a class of medicines known as SNRIs (or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors). Pristiq is not approved for use in children and adolescents.

Who should not take Pristiq?

Do not take Pristiq if you:

currently take, or have taken within the last 14 days, any medicine known as an MA01. Taking an MA01 with certain other

medicines, including Pristiq, can cause serious or even life- threatening side effects. Also, you must wait at least 7 days after you stop taking Pristiq before you take any MA01.

Abnormal bleeding or bruising. Pristiq and other SNRIs/SSRIs may cause you to have an increased chance of bleeding. Taking aspirin, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti -inflammatory drugs), or blood thinners may add to this risk. Tell your healthcare provider right away about any unusual bleeding or bruising.

Glaucoma (increased eye pressure)

Increased cholesterol and triglyceride levels in your blood Symptoms when stopping Pristiq (discontinuation symptoms). and demanding man you knew him to be." She also released the findings of a six-month inquiry conducted by three legal and child-abuse experts that she funded personally as a response to the

Freeh report, which examined Penn State's handling of Sandusky's crimes. ei

Led by former FBI director Louis

"callous and shocking disregard for child victims." By contrast, Sue's experts assert that

ue Paterno's husband, storied Penn State football coach Joe

Paterno, has been gone for just over a year. But while the

university he served for 61 years has begun to minimize his legacy,

stripping titles and removing a heroic statue of him, Paterno's presence still fills Sue's State College, Pa, home, where she and three of her five children sat for

an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. "Joe Pa" is still there in the overflowing awards cabinet, in the angelic oil portrait given by friends after his death, and

in the frequent stories she and their

kids tell. "He wanted to learn to cook; I

said, 'Not in my kitchen!' He leaves a mess! And he wanted to learn to use a computer," Sue says of her husband's plans for a retirement he didn't get to enjoy. In January 2012 he died at 85, two months after being fired amid suspicion that he concealed information about child-sex crimes committed by former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. In October Sandusky, 69, was sentenced to 30-60 years in prison on 45 counts of child sexual abuse involving 10 victims ages 8-13. On Feb. 8, as part of an attempt to reshape her husband's

human being. My dad was not." This is not what Sue, at 73, expected

her widowhood to be. Her husband spent 45 years becoming Division I football's winningest coach: one celebrated for valuing academics as much as athletics and demanding integrity from players. Alternately teary and outraged, she says her late husband did not spend his last days focused on his legacy: "He wasn't talking about clearing himself. Joe wanted the truth." Some feel her efforts are misplaced. "The hurt feelings of the Paterno family over the Freeh report do not com-

pare to the hurt inflicted on the victims," says Tom Kline, attorney for Sandusky victim No. 5. But Sue maintains that, despite evidence that he had some knowledge of incidents in 1998

I went to the Amangani resort in Wyoming for a week with my mom and best friend. We played in the snow and learned all about mating habits of the native animals. I just watched sheep and took pictures!

LAST GREETING CARD I SENT I don't think I've sent one since I was about 12, and it was probably on Valentine's Day. I usually use JibJab, where you put your face in a little online thing. People

are usually horrified and delighted at the same time. Joan Cusack and her kids taught me.

LAST DISCOVERY Etsy. It's such a time suck. I'm buying all these vintage brooches to use as hair ornaments, decoration, everything. They make it very easy; it doesn't feel like you're really even purchasing things. It's a better eBay.

LAST TIME I WAS STARSTRUCK A couple of weeks ago I saw Naomi Watts. I've met her before, but she's so beautiful that I'm always a little in awe. I sort of nodded in her direction, "You're so pretty and so insanely talented."

LAST HOME IMPROVEMENT I built shelving from the Container Store for all my handbags. My mom helped, so it was two chicks building, and we were very impressed with ourselves!
