A NOTE FROM NORTH & PEACH’S

FOUNDER

“Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous in the end.” If there was ever a motto that I could adopt, it would be this...not only for this issue, but for this experience as a whole. We have experienced a fast and furious beginning and are finally settling into a groove with our authentic self. We’ve already gone through so much growth and have developed into the look and feel we’ve always envisioned. There is no better time to talk about growth than this Summer issue. This time of year has presented itself as a perfect time for us to re-launch into something even better than before. It’s so evident all around us: changing temperatures, greener earth, long days with pink sunsets, and a lightness in our day-to-day mood.

“CHANGE IS

HARD AT FIRST

MESSY

IN THE MIDDLE

AND gorgeous IN THE END”

We are so excited to introduce you to North & Peach, this issue is the perfect way for you to meet the new us! You told us you wanted more from brides, something for grooms and as much local goodness as possible - and we listened. This issue is filled with much needed conversations on hot bridal topics from real brides and experts, plus a brand-new section exclusively for the men. You’ll find even more information and ideas on unique North Georgia people, places and things you can’t find anywhere else. And as always, every page is dripping with beautiful images to help inspire and plan your own wedding. Our new look has only motivated us to double down on our passion - putting all of the North Georgia wedding industry resources in one place, right at your fingertips. With every flip of a page, we hope you feel as excited about your wedding possibilities as we do! Xoxo

a FROM loveTHEletter TEAM As beautiful as this issue is, we can all say that there were many moments of hustle on our part. Creating this magazine is the most awe inspiring, connecting, and yes, teeth gritting thing we’ve ever done. But we are so lucky to have a team that brings such unique skills and experiences to the table. We learn together and from each other, and we have a beautiful creation at the end that we know is going to help people be excited and inspired for their big day! Lead by our fearless leader, we are continually surprising ourselves with our ability to put into pages what we can all see and know is possible. Of course, we could not do it without our vendors, the people in the mud of the wedding industry. You bring us the life, the inspo, and the creative start. Thank you as always for being a part of North & Peach! We also want to thank our readers and followers! You are who we do this for because of your desire to throw the most awesome celebration of your life. We can’t wait for you to dig into this issue! And we can’t wait to start creating for you again!

A LITTLE Q&A WITH OUR COVER PHOTOGRAPHER

Lindsey LaRue

Lindsey’s Bio: I’m Lindsey, heirloom wedding and anniversary photographer in the Southeastern US & beyond. Based just north of Atlanta in the peachy state of Georgia, I put emotion to paper by taking the way you feel for your beloved and making it into something you can hold and treasure forever! I’m a nationally published photographer who’s wild about serving couples as a storyteller so they can focus on the important things- like that beautiful soul they can’t wait to marry and the amazing marriage they’re building together. On Winning the Cover Contest: Winning the cover contest was the sweetest surprise- that moment of walking in to everyone cheering with champagne and balloons is something I will never forget! It’s been so wonderful to watch this beautiful publication grow in our area and I love hearing about the big dreams they have for inspiring brides in the North Georgia area. Seeing my work in its pages is an honor and an absolute joy! Furthermore, I know it’s incredibly exciting for my couple, Jade & David, and it warms my heart to see their wedding highlighted in this way- they are an incredible couple with hearts of gold and I’m so grateful their beautiful day is getting a moment in the spotlight! Lindsey’s experience at Wedding Angels was like, plus how it felt being back there:

Walking back through the doors of Wedding Angels was so special, not just because there was a team of people waiting in the lobby to surprise me, but because it’s also the place I bought my own wedding dress not too many years ago. Everyone’s warm reception paired with the sweet memories I have there, was enough to bring me to tears. I was further overwhelmed when they told me that Ellen, the bridal consultant who helped me pick my dress, was still working there and had left me a handwritten note congratulating me! Lindsey on meeting Jade & David (Winning Cover Couple): Every single wedding day I capture is such an honor! Getting to be there for that day in a couple’s life is something I never take for granted, but Jade & David’s wedding day had an even deeper level of meaning for me. I’ve known Jade since college and I’ve loved watching her grow and flourish over the years. She has such an effervescent personality and a smile that spreads happiness to everyone around her, so I knew the man who won her devotion would have to be a special one. Meeting David for the first time brought me such joy because I could SEE the genuine love and gentle affection he had for her and you can tell by the subtle way they interact that they balance each other so well. Seeing my friend so happy is amazing, and getting to be a part of this special time in their lives- priceless! That paired with the fact that they got married at the same venue I did, it was a day of reliving old wonderful memories for me, and creating new incredible memories for them!

IMAGES BY KELSEY BUTCHER PHOTOGRAPHY

Lindsey’s favorite part of a wedding day is: It is so incredibly hard for me to pick a single favorite part of a wedding day! That moment when the couple sees each other for the first time, the private portrait time when I whisk them away and help them savor this whirlwind day, and those last few moments between father and daughter before he walks her down the aisle are all favorites. But I’d probably have to say it’s the “in between” moments that I treaLAURA BARNES PHOTOGRAPHY

sure the most. Whether it’s the way he helps her down the steps in her dress, the sneaky kisses they steal from each other all day, or the way the flower girl lights up when she sees the bride in her dress the first time, those are the moments you can’t orchestrate or plan. They add so much depth to the overall story of the day and I feel so grateful when I get to witness and capture them all. northandpeach.com

“From the intimate ceremony to the glow of their beautiful sunset portraits, this entire southern plantation wedding exuded warmth and light. And when you meet Jade & David, you know exactly why! They embody such heartfelt joy towards everyone they talk to and their smiles just radiate with sweet enthusiasm! They made such a special effort to fill their day with sentimental and thoughtful details that would personalize their wedding. From the family Bible guest book to the long farmhouse tables arranged family style at the reception, you could tell this couple wanted guests to feel comfortable and welcome as a part of their intimate circle. One of my favorite moments was the footwashing that they shared during their tear-filled ceremony! Using copper vessels that belong to the bride’s grandmother, there wasn’t a dry eye as they ceremonially vowed to serve each other always. Jade & David are also such a perfect example of the magic that can happen when you trust your photographer and give them plenty of portrait time on wedding day. Between their sweet first look with portraits after in the gardens, a dedicated time for portraits after the ceremony to capture that newlywed glow, AND THEN sneaking out of the reception for a few moments at sunset to capture a few more photos, it was nearly impossible for me to narrow down which portraits to share! There were just so many incredible moments to choose from!” WORDS AND IMAGES FROM PHOTOGRAPHER // LINDSEY LARUE PHOTOGRAPHY

STYLED SHOOT

PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALLISON PEDIGO

It’s hard not to think of your Mr. Darcy meeting you in this rolling pasture as the wind blows through your loose curls. Heart. Melt. The warm sunshine is all around but the sweet air is there to cool you when needed. This is a book you can’t put down. The cake, possibly the most gorgeous element of this shoot, tells it own love story. The way that the flowers and fruit marry each other to create the most gorgeous tower of color...big heart eyes. While the pasture may offer you sun and breeze, the decor offers you a warm smile, a sweet taste, and a soft welcome.

dreamy hillside, wide open spaces, sunshine and vibrant florals, rolling pastures, natural landscape, dreamy hillside, wide open spaces, sunshine and vibrant florals, rolling pastures, natural landscape, dreamy hillside, wide open spaces, sunshine and vibrant florals, rolling pastures, natural landscape, dreamy hillside, wide open

To achieve this dreamy hillside, find your wide open space. A pasture is perfect, but even think about a large yard, a local park, or even a wildlife area. Focus on a country chic style. Tousled hair, vibrant florals, and berry stained lips will bring your look full circle. Big pops of design like the cake or large floral arrangement against the natural landscape will fill the space with the right amount of detail.

STYLED SHOOT

Summer brings the sweetest aromas that incite the bond of two people. The beauty of incorporating natural elements gives you not only a beautiful color palette but also an extra bonus of a scene that smells wonderful as well. This styled shoot was easily lead by one of the season’s trendiest colors... lavender. The stylist chose the best way to communicate this color by letting nature do her thing. Bringing actual lavender and like florals into the decor was the most authentic way to fill the space. Using bright whites to make the color pop and greenery to support the softness of the lavender shows us that we don’t have to complicate something that nature does so well. The perfect placement of the greenery down the aisle, the lavender in the drinks, and how the tulle graciously draps the altar is the space giving permission for simple details to be something so much bigger. To achieve this look, think about breath and space. Who are the best supporting actresses to the lead? White background? Contrasting greenery? It does not have to be overdone to win. It just has to make the best performance. Find elements that may mean nothing on their own but work together to create a whole new look.

Garden Romance STYLED SHOOT

PHOTOGRAPHY BY LAUREN CARTER

Many love stories have begun with a stroll through a garden path. There’s something so romantic about being nestled among walls of greenery and the beautiful florals are the perfect conversation filler between awkward giggles. If a garden scene can do so much for romance in the beginning, what a perfect way to create the same mood on your wedding day. The way the scene is set reminisces somewhat of Alice in Wonderland. Bringing indoor elements out by placing an elegant dining table in a grassy area, but adorning it with a waterfall of florals. Placing lanterns around to illuminate as dusk approaches, and highlighting special trinkets to highlight the details. It’s all very much fairytale like.

garden path, romance, waterfall of florals, growing flower, intricate detailing, bright and natural, garden path, romance, waterfall of florals, growing flower, intricate detailing, bright and natural , garden path, romance, waterfall of florals, growing flower, intricate detailing, bright and natural

To get this look, find the perfect outdoor set with lots of greenery. Gardens are perfect, but even someone’s background yard can carry the same effect. To set that romantic feel, look for furniture to adorn your space. Keep it light and bright. Look for antiqued dining tables and chairs. Pay special attention to the bride style too. Her gown will be important to the whole look. Extravagant trains or intricate detailing will pull the outdoor look together. This look is all about bringing two worlds together... nature and interior, so placing things about that wouldn’t necessarily exist in nature is the perfect way to do this!

Romantic Coastal STYLED SHOOT

PHOTOGRAPHY BY HEATHER COOK

Water has such deep meaning when it comes to romance. Just being near it, brings a calmness. The sounds of moving water, the smell of the breeze...it really is the perfect canvas for an outdoor wedding. So much so that this may the most simple decor to plan. The stylist in this shoot took the idea of calm serenity and carried that theme as inspiration for each decor element. The florals didn’t stray from greenery. Instead of focusing on color, texture was most important as the stylist used a variety of plants to accentuate the shoot. The coastal inspiration was also well defined in the invitations that featured a deep sea blue color palette mimicking waves. While other elements focused on muted colors, but again textured elements. To achieve this look, don’t feel pressure to use color like traditional styles. This style was more about location and texture. The natural elements carries the theme and set the mood. If you can actually set your wedding on a coast, great! But really any open body of water will work. Large lakes or rivers will lend themselves to this type of setup. You will still get movement and breeze off of the water to make this coastal inspired wedding real.

The perfect mix of a warm welcome with a refreshing breeze is what this style is all about. There’s such a carefree playful nature in this set that’s it hard to not view it as a destination wedding in the hills of Tuscany. Rolling vineyards and stone accents under a warm sun...what dream weddings are made of. But good news is, you don’t have to travel far to get this wedding under the Tuscan sun. The stylist in this shoot opted to carry that warm vineyard feel through the color palette. The deep red, warm orange, and browns sit perfectly across the natural landscape grounding the entire shoot. The florals are vibrant but deep, and there is undoubtedly a very romantic feel from the invitations down to the brides wispy hair. Wine stains are more than accepted here.

To achieve this look, go for the vineyard. When styling your decor, think of what evokes that warm buzzy wine feeling. Deep colors paired with a lighter palette, wine stained lips, and the warm sun should all be your inspo. Pair them with natural elements to lighten the mood. Everything should have a bit of carefree nature to it, the bride’s look, the decor, and even the table spread. Think about the wildly in love frolicking through the hills of Tuscany.

Every grown woman remembers that little girl who was fascinated by the princess lifestyle. Intricate dresses, crowns, and gold accents all around... what a little girl wouldn’t give to have their fairytale type of wedding. We shamelessly let that flag fly with the recent royal weddings. This shoot is all about the royal inspo right down to the castle, that dreamy open air castle. There’s no better hue to choose than blue for this shoot. The stylists went with a dusty shade paired with ornate decor elements to emulate a formal elegant table spread. The bride is fitted with an intricate gown and of course a pearl tiara. The background makes the entire fairytale come to life as they sit nestled in an open air brick structure that screams romantic abandoned castle. The achieve this look, think like a royal. Elegant but certainly not obnoxious is the goal. Use intricate decor but pair down with light shades. Really focus on the location as it really is the icing on the cake. And do not forget the smug little dog and tiara. Structure in attire and hair blends romantically with a little whimsical decor setting. This is truly a Cinderella meets Kate kind of story.

Indian American Fusion STYLED SHOOT

PHOTOGRAPHY BY SANSAARA PHOTOGRAPHY

This vibrant shoot is inspired by the beauty and intricate traditions of the Indian culture. It’s steeped in magnificent color pairings, textured decor elements, and delicate pieces. The deep cultural roots make this wedding so inspiring and meaningful. The traditional Indian bridal dress carries this entire wedding. The mixture of yellow and coral and textured fabrics creates the most stunning central focus. Set in a beautiful outdoor garden, the stylist were able to keep the decor simple. A beautiful arrangement with matching florals and fabrics are a nice addition to the green background. To achieve this look, pull the color palette and pay attention to the fabrics. Think bold and unconventional. If you want to add even more meaning behind the decor, choose colors with certain interpretation. Layer these by texture and pattern to create the best blend of decor. Find an intimate garden or courtyard with low hanging trees to provide the right amount of greenery to help make your colors pop. Nature always provides an amazing canvas to host a vibrant and intricate wedding.

Bubbly Bridal Shower STYLED SHOOT

There’s no better way to show the bride ultimate love than throwing her the most bubbly of bridal showers. Literally showering her with love while you sit amongst the most playful and vibrant elements planned by her tribe. This shoot has the most excellent color palette, pairing unconventional hues that just work in this setting. The stylist focused on really bringing the ideas of bubbles to the set by including clusters of blue and orange

balloon arrangements. They were able to bring an elegance to those decor elements by accentuating the space with beautiful greenery. Gold tones and geometric shapes placed throughout, including on the cake add a modern touch as well. To achieve this look, pick a modern backdrop, possibly a great AirBNB studio apartment. Go for a fun color palette but remember to pair it with modern and elegant elements like greenery. If you want to use

About Carrie Patterson Carrie’s been in the restaurant business since her first job at 13 scooping ice cream at a local parlor in central California. She worked her way through college waiting tables and tending bar and has done everything from hostess to bartend and even was the GM of her own restaurant for a few years. Your Neighborhood Bartender was grown out of a word of mouth business that was built up while she was tending bar locally here in Forsyth County. PEACE OUT

burlap and lace

Everyone loves a good barn wedding. There’s something so fun about using non traditional choices to make a memorable wedding day. Barn weddings have exploded over the last few years, and like all good trends, there is the fear that this one might fade into the past much like our love for a poofy sleeve on a wedding dress.

Barn weddings are normally characterized with burlap and lace design elements giving the space a vintage country look. And while it’s the perfect decor to go with a barn wedding, let’s be honest it soon will get a little stale, leaving us wondering if the barn wedding will even stay around. Enters the convo: brilliant wedding designers...and they are here to tell us this is not the case. The beautiful part of designing your wedding is that taking inspiration and making it your own will make your setting totally unique to you. And if you want to have a barn wedding, well you certainly say “boy bye” to the burlap and give the lace tulle back to your mom. You can even let grandma keep her canning jars, because we want to show you how to have your dream barn wedding that’s unlike what you’ve seen before.

Southern Charm Inspiration This shoot is the perfect mix of romance and country inspo. The natural elements of wood and stone adorned by soft greenery and florals raises the idea of barn wedding to the next level. “The vision was focused on melding the masculine and feminine as inspired by an architect and his bride. The vintage architectural prints inspired a geometric base in muted tones. Seasonal flowers focused on hellebores which are an extremely dainty and flowing floral in muted pinks, whites and mauves. The table numbers and escort cards carried on the architectural theme by using an architectural hand lettering skill. thing from seeded eucalyptus to baby blue and Gunni!

I love them in all colors!!! I love to pair them with garden roses or spray roses to add some depth and you can’t forget to add some draping greenery like gunni or silver dollar eucalyptus. I also have a sweet spot for hydrangeas. They are such a southern staple in my wedding florals!!! They take me back to growing up at home. Every summer my mama had 2 huge bushes that were always loaded down with light blue hydrangeas. They are almost like a comfort flower to me that reminds me of my mother! These large headed blooms are so easy to pair with roses, stock, and eucalyptus.

What are your personal favorite summer floral combos? My personal favorite, this is a hard one to nail down. Peonies scream spring time to me!!

Best tips for brides when choosing their wedding florals? Go with your first instinct. Do not let a headstrong bridesmaid change your mind to reflect more of her style. BOHO

Boho - Organic Messy Hair Be sure to use the best hair product for your hair type to fight frizz and keep texture. You don’t want your hair going flat or dropping curl. Consult with your hairstylist during your trial to see what is going to work best for your hair type. Glow up Add flowers to your hair to get that extra earthy Boho feel. Try small flowers throughout for a subtle look. To really get that extra spice, do a large flower crown to show your earthy heart.

HLE AS

Bride Hair Don’t Care is not a hat we will be wearing anytime soon. Hair is such a love/ hate relationship for females anyway, and we don’t want anymore drama on your big day than you need. So we sat down and talked to Hair artist and Bridal Specialist, Ashlenn Cree to get her top trends, fav’s, and advice on choosing your hair style.

The Boho Bun

About Ashlenn Ashlenn Cree is a sought after hair and makeup artist as well as bridal specialist in Alpharetta, GA. She began doing hair and makeup at age 17 and never looked back. She enjoys working with brides, and bridesmaids alike, to create unique hairstyles for the wedding day.

Take it Off the Runway

Slicked Back Bun Turn it into a low bun with tendrils to frame your face. Big Frizzy Hair Tone it down with some anti-frizz serum and a few quick flat iron curls. Extreme Accessories Find a way to keep the idea not the element. The accessory doesn’t even have to be in your hair. For instance, a clear top hat on the runway could become a clear clutch to carry.

2019, here we come! “I really think bridal styling has evolved from a “stuffy” and stressful experience to a more focused approach of what the bride actually wants on her special day. It is becoming more organic which follows the fashion and hair trends for the previous year. We are in an era of “nontouring,” or showing off the natural features of the hair along with makeup. I am excited as we approach 2019 to see what brides will choose in a new season of fashion!”

Ashlenn’s #1 Piece of Advice “You should designate a special space for yourself while you are getting ready, whether it is with your hairdresser or makeup artist. Finding another room or a quiet area will allow your styling team to take care of you and in turn, will help you to collect yourself and prepare for the day ahead. We, as stylists and artists, want you to feel special, peaceful and loved on your wedding day. It’s so important that you are able to tell your bridal party, your mom or sistersin-law to hang back with everyone else while you get pampered like every bride should!”

Consider your hair texture, the time of year, and the weather. You want to make sure that your hair can keep that sleekness despite all the variables. WEDDING

TWOWAY S By: Brittany Fulkerson

“Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” - Elliott Erwitt The memories you will gain from your wedding day will hopefully be lasting for a long time. But the photos you have captured will last forever. Photography has become so important to weddings because of this, but the way photography adorns the entire theme of the day has far surpassed what it used to be. Photography has always been an art form, but now more than ever a photographer’s methods, shooting preferences, and styles are so varied and unique that the way a wedding that is captured can look completely different. Photographers work hard to develop their style and brand through the photos they capture. It is so important to understand this when finding your perfect match for your big day. Shooting one wedding two different ways is the perfect comparison of how styles can differ greatly producing two very different outcomes. This shoot was done at the same time with the same elements...same subjects, same settings, and same time of day. Both are beautiful but different and unique in their own right. Their stark differences speak to the vast amount of options a bride has when it comes to photography styles. Knowing which style resonates with you, your bridal style, and wedding theme is something you must navigate when choosing a photographer. But as you can see even when all things are consistent, the result can vary. These top trending photography styles rely on shooting styles as well as editing styles. You have to decide how you want to remember your day. When you look back at your photos, do they capture the emotions you felt, the words that were spoken, and the bonds that were cultivated. Dark & Moody -vs- Light & Airy It doesn't take long to recognize these trends. Instagram and Pinterest are full of photography inspo that either lean towards the moody or the airy side of shots. So how do you choose? It's a hard decision especially if you really like both. But understanding each style is the best place to start. northandpeach.com

WHICH WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY S T Y L E I S A P E R F E C T F I T FO R Y O U ? TAKE THIS SHORT QUIZ TO SEE WHICH STYLE IS PERFECT FOR YOU!

Dark & Moody This style might scream Harry Potter obsessed, but it can suit a variety of themes. This style is perfect for outdoor settings especially in the Fall and Winter seasons. You often see this style saturated with warmer colors like deep browns and even greens. Skin tones are often warmer, you'll see more contrast in the photos, and there may even be more detail in some of the elements because of the intensity of the darker areas. This style may make more sense if you want to remember your wedding as deep, romantic, and earthy.

1. 2. 3. 4.

B R I G H T + A I RY Light & Airy This style is open to so many wedding themes and probably is the more popular of the two. This style is great for any setting and any time of the year. It's often light and very bright at the same time allowing for that airy feeling. Colors and details are often softened and whites dominate the color palette of these shots. Skin tones although soft will often lean towards a cooler lighter tone. Facial features are also softened. Real N or t h Ge or gi a ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS

First comes love, then comes marriage...pause, what about the engagement photos? If you’ve confessed your unwavering love to someone and asked them to a lifetime of waking up to the same mug, there better be some thought behind how it’s all done. Now don’t confuse this with a lot of hassle. Making it special doesn’t mean making it a huge orchestrated styled shoot. It means incorporating themes, locations, and props that make it special to you. If you share a love of an activity, think about how you can incorporate that. Maybe choose your location based off where you met or where you were engaged. And always include props. This may be a pet or a bible or even your favorite food. These items not only take the edge off of the shoot to give your face a break, but they are something that adds a story to your images! Talk to your photographer about this ahead of time to get a good plan together.

TIPS ON PREPARING FOR YOUR E-SESSION

1. Pick your outfits ahead of time - make it a fun date to go shopping together to find clothes that compliment one another well. Stay away from super bold distracting patterns. 2. Small details like having manicured nails to show off your ring and the right color socks help ease stress. So consider setting out your outfits a few days before to make sure you have every accessory that you want photographed ready (for every outfit, if you are planning a wardrobe change). 3. Show up on time! While you're planning the perfect outfits, your photographer has been planning the logistics of your session, like the best possible lighting at each photo location. 4. Realize it may feel a little awkward at first, but TRUST your photographer in the process and have fun! It’s not every day you get dressed up and have an opportunity for profesisonal photos! 5. Wrap it up with a date! You’re all dressed up and look amazing - make the most of it and grab a bite to eat or catch a movie afterwards!

meaningful location

Consider places that help tell your story! -Where you first met -Your first date/ first kiss location -Where you first exchanged “I Love You” -An activity you enjoy together -Your favorite hangout / restaurant

"Our photos were taken in downtown Gainesville at the square."

Why did you choose that location?

"Honestly, we didn’t have a preference. We are laid back and didn’t think much about an engagement shoot. We were so busy planning our wedding (in about a 3 month timeframe) and moving to Nashville, that our photographer Sherri suggested the location. Based on all her suggestions the downtown feel fit our style the most."

What makes this location special to you?

"The location wasn't very special before hand but now it will hold a special place in our heart forever." northandpeach.com

Where are your engagement photos taken?

"We had our photos taken at three different places in Downtown Duluth. We started at Maple Street Biscuit Co., then went to Simply Done Donuts, and we finished with Good Word Brewing."

Why did you choose that location?

"I work in Downtown Duluth and we live close by so we are there all the time. I’ve got to give credit where credit is due, this was all Korey’s idea!"

What makes this location special to you?

"What makes this location special to you? Korey and I have two mutual loves; God and food. We eat out way more than we’d like to admit... I’d say some of our most memorable conversations took place at a restaurant or over a cup of coffee. Naturally, we chose three places that we spend a considerable amount of time at together. We love the people who work there and the welcoming atmosphere at each place. It’s also where Korey proposed and we celebrated our engagement with friends!"

Props? Anything else to make it even more memorable?

"Food! When we were at Maple Street I ordered the Squawking Goat and an iced Maple Vanilla Latte and Korey ordered the Five. At Simply Done Donuts we ordered two donuts and a couple of drinks. The entire experience was really memorable! Bailey did an amazing job at making us look good and feel comfortable."

"During an evening stroll we stumbled upon this large & beautiful field and knew it would be a great location. It’s aesthetically pleasing and the industrial building across the street would make for some super cool photos.

What makes this location special to you?

"It’s walking distance of our first apartment together! We both pass it on a daily basis, so at least once a day I get a sweet reminder of our amazing engagement session."

Props? Anything else to make it even more memorable?

"Well the most memorable part was the “unintentional prop”, the rain. Thankfully Laura (our amazing photographer) brought along these clear umbrellas and we were able to make the rain work for us instead of against us."

Dru and I got engaged the end of our junior year, so we thought taking our pictures on campus was the perfect way to capture our story and the place that means so much to us!"

What makes this location special to you?

"We started dating at the end of our senior year of high school, so our relationship really started to develop once we were in college. UGA has been “our place” for the last 4 years; it’s where our relationship grew and where we got engaged!"

What makes this location special to you?

"Everything about our relationship revolves around this wonderful city. Living in Midtown, our most quality time spent together involves trying new restaurants, walking the belt line, or finding a great concert to attend at the Fox Theater. The city is our happy place!"

MADE TO LAST

Toccoa Falls

MARRIAGE ADVICE FROM REAL COUPLES WHO GO THE DISTANCE What aspect of being married do you think is the most challenging and what advice would you give to newlyweds? "That’s a tough question, but I think one of the most difficult parts of being married revolves around communication. We are not all wired the same and respond differently in certain situations. Learning to listen before you speak and taking the other person’s feelings into consideration above your own really helps to manage an otherwise difficult problem. Also, it is always best to walk away for a short period of time if you feel angry about something. Trying to deal with an issue in the “heat of the moment” often leads to hurt feelings, so it takes a certain amount of discipline to wait it out. In the end, it’s well worth it!" –Grace Anne

When raising a family, how do you make time for yourselves? "Although challenging, it can be done! We have family friends who also have children in their household. Once per month, we trade off babysitting so each couple gets free time outside of the house. Not only is it healthy for each of our marriages, but the kids have a fun play date too!" -Paula

How do you stay interested in your spouse after many years together?

PHOTOGRAPHY BY CASTO PHOTO

MEET Jess and Rob Where are your engagement photos taken?

"Our photos were taken by the waterfall at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia."

Why did you choose that location?

"Our criteria was outdoors, trees and beautiful. Our photographer Becky, with Casto Photography, found the most perfect place that was a great fit to all our criteria!"

What makes this location special to you?

"We stood under neath the waterfall, holding each other as love filled the air. We were able to reflect, enjoy the moment we were in and be excited for what is to come. We also went to a school in a small town in Tennessee and the campus reminded us so much of our school while we were exploring!"

Props? Anything else to mkae it even more memorable? "Nora, our Bernese mountain dog was the perfect touch!"

"Making time for a date night is paramount in staying interested in your spouse! I am a firm believer that each one of us speaks a different love language, so understanding what makes your other half “tick” will help to cultivate a loving and fulfilling relationship. Also, in a world where most of us spend a large part of our day in front of a screen, it’s very important to turn off phones and eliminate those distractions during meals, the evening time and for a portion of the weekend as well." -Donna

Statistics show that the #1 cause for divorce is related to finances. What steps do you take to ensure you don’t become one of these statistics? "We have found that being organized through the consistent use of a monthly budget really makes a huge difference and gives us a solid foundation. When we talk about our financial responsibilities in advance and meet in the middle on where we will allocate extra funds, it creates a marriage of trust and sets the expectations. If financial management is one of your weaknesses, I strongly recommend hiring a financial planner or at minimum taking a course on money management." -Sharon

What are some ideas for spending time together, especially if you are on a budget? "It can be super challenging when you are on a budget to experience date nights (especially after children!). One thing we love to do together is what we call ‘Cheap Date Tuesdays’. We get a babysitter for 2 hours, we go to our favorite pizza joint for half priced pizza and then walk downtown and talk after dinner. Carving out intentional one on one time is SO important in marraige! We also love cooking together (well, I love cooking, and Nate loves tasting). We also love getting outdoors and hiking, or visiting waterfalls (all which are free, minus some $5 parking passes!). Living in North Georgia, it is great to be able to take advantage of the beauty around us for inexpensive date options! Pack a picnic and eat lunch or dinner near a waterfall, or the lake." -Bailey northandpeach.com

mouth. With the overwhelming number of brides coming to me for a planner, Winey Blonde Events was born! Our planning family has grown to a team of eight and the weddings keep coming. In 2018, we have booked 145 weddings and we are excited to plan, coordinate, and make dreams come true! TL: What is your number one goal or philosophy at Winey Blonde? KG: Our goal is to ensure the bride and groom experience their wedding in the most accommodating and calming way possible. We genuinely care so deeply about each wedding, and we go to extreme lengths to make sure their day is exactly what they always dreamt of. Each event poses its own set of challenges, but like all things the rewards far outweigh those challenges. We appreciate each bride and groom we get to serve and are so grateful they chose us to be a part of their day! TL: What are your Top 5 tips for the bride on wedding planning?

FRANK GIBSON PHOTOGRAPHY

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT An interview with owner, Karen Gramlich by Tiffany Loera TL: How did you get started, how long have you been in business and how many weddings do you do each year?

KG: In 2010, I was pursuing my career as a corporate planner while also working as an executive assistant. I was fortunate enough to start assisting a very successful planning company in Atlanta. That was all it took to realize I wanted to do weddings in more than just a part-time capacity. The more weddings I got under my belt, the more my network continued to expand, which eventually led me to take on the challenge of getting an up and coming venue on the books. While managing the venue, I began to grow my base through word of

KG: 1. If you cannot afford, or don’t feel you need, a full time planner, at least hire a day of coordinator! You do need someone who can bring your vision together on the day of and make things run smoothly. This person will be in charge of so much more than just keeping you on time. They will be your problem-fixer, your peacekeeper, and your source of sanity when everything seems crazy!

2. Remember that things happen! Not everything will go according to plan. Occasionally, vendors run late, items go missing, and the weather does not cooperate. Having a good planner on your side means that you have a professional in charge who is experienced at thinking on their feet and improvising when necessary, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

3. If you want to change something about your wedding day or wedding vendors, there is probably a reason and you should trust your gut. While you should try not to change your mind too many times, be sure you are comfortable with your decisions. Examine your options and ask yourself if you are just nervous, or if you really are not happy. If you aren’t satisfied with certain details, talk to your planner and work on a Plan B! 4. Schedule a private moment with your fiancé on the wedding day! Even if you are not doing a “first look,” this is an important time period that can give you a much needed break from a very busy day. The wedding day is a very long and (sometimes) stressful day to go through without having a moment to yourselves. This time could be a private dinner during cocktail hour (leaving you more time to mingle with guests while they eat!), or even a 10-minute break after the ceremony before starting family portraits. Whatever you decide, you will be happy you’ve set aside a few minutes to breathe and soak in the moment.

5. Bring some dancing shoes! A lot of brides want glamorous high heels for their photos and the ceremony. I love a great pair of shoes as much as the next girl, but sooner or later you’re going to be kicking them off! So many brides end up going barefoot because their feet hurt. Having bare feet on a dance floor can be icky and even unsafe if there is broken glass. No one wants cuts on their feet right before a beach honeymoon! Throw some flats, sandals, or another comfy option in your wedding day bag so you can dance the night away with happy feet! TL: What is your favorite aspect of the wedding planning process? KG: Hands down seeing the bride’s vision come together on the big day! There are a bunch of big decisions and hundreds of little details that all have to fit into place perfectly. It is both magical and rewarding to see all the hard work leap off of paper and into real life! northandpeach.com

PLANB By: Maria Scott

You’ve planned this for months. You’ve dotted your i’s and crossed every t. You’ve cried tears of joy and stress. You may have even acquired a few battle wounds in the process. (Paper cuts on your tongue can be a “b”.) The day is here, and nothing is going to stop you from getting married, not even if the whole thing falls apart. Because every smart bride has a Plan B.

What could possibly go wrong? Unfortunately, we’ve seen it all. So we are going to take you through those gut wrenching possibilities, so you know how to implement your Plan B

sure you have extra cupcakes or little sweets as back up just in case. Worse case, have a family member or friend run to the nearest grocery store.

OUTDOOR WEDDING VENUE ON A RAINY OR COLD DAY

Try and remember that this is YOUR wedding day! Don’t get bogged down in family politics and focus on starting your new family. Also, let your wedding planner navigate the weird family tensions. As a third party, they can help bring neutrality to emotionally charged situations.

Before you book your outdoor venue, make sure you find out what your backup plans for rain/bad weather would be. Does the venue provide tents, heaters, or know a company that could provide those to you? If doing an indoor reception, make sure it’s possible to do a ceremony in that space last minute if needed to. A few days before your wedding make sure you check the weather and plan accordingly. Also, run through your ceremony in your plan B & C spaces just in case.

A VENDOR STOOD YOU UP

Photographer- Before your wedding, ask your photographer if they will have a second shooter with them. Also, ask what they do in the event they aren’t able to come because of an emergency. Is that second shooter able to be there fee free? DJ - Before your wedding, ask the wedding venue if they have a speaker system readily available to use. Make sure you have a family member or friend volunteer to connect their smartphone to the sound system to get the music going. Make sure you have a friend that feels comfortable and has the vocal ability to help with announcements if needed.

CAKE GETS RUINED/DROPPED

Depending on how bad your cake is, flowers can be your best friend! Before the wedding, check with the baker to make sure the base of your cake is wide enough. Also confirm what time they will be delivering the cake and that it makes sense with the season and venue. They shouldn’t deliver your cake to a barn venue with no AC 4 hours early! You can also make

FAMILY DRAMA

DRESS GETS TORN OR STAINED

Before you take your wedding dress home, make sure you ask your bridal salon their emergency cleaning tips. They’ll have some great suggestions regarding the specific fabric of your dress. Make sure you bring your own emergency kit, or have your wedding planner bring one. It should include safety pins, needle & thread, tape, glue, etc. It will be extremely useful for last minute repairs before you walk down the aisle. Make sure you have someone who knows how to arrange your train before you walk down the aisle so your dad doesn’t trip or rip it and also make sure someone knows how to bustle your dress correctly so you don’t rip it at your reception Life is unpredictable. But you can offset this with being prepared and having a great wedding planner/ coordinator. Do your own due diligence and read your vendor contracts. Have plan A, B, and in most cases a plan C just incase. But most importantly, remember your goal for that day...marry the love of your life. Nothing else matters in the end.

A treatment plan will be recommended if you have any mild or serious skin issues. Follow through with the plan if you want to see results! You can’t show up once and expect all your problems to be solved; at-home care is very important!

Wedding planning can be stressful. When it comes to getting pampered for your big day it should leave you feeling excited, not exhausted. Here is how you achieve your full Blushing Bride potential in a few easy steps:

Go Green! Green smoothies are delish for the tastebuds and your skin! Try one with a handful of kale, ice, water, and your favorite fruits. Make sure you’re getting the right nutrients. Vitamins such as fish oil, D3, and Vitamin C will do your body and your skin right! Up your water intake, 8 glasses a day at minimum. It aids in eliminating toxins from your system. Get your workout on! Not only will you look fantastic in your dress, but working out helps regulate everything else going on in your body, inside and out.

Start adding antioxidants into your diet. Berries and deep green veggies do wonders for the skin. (My favorite mix is blueberries on top of spinach, sprinkled with ginger & olive oil!)

You won’t buy your wedding dress without trying it on. You must “try on” your Makeup Artist too! Book a trial session with your Makeup Artist to make sure they are the right fit for the style you want to achieve. This will leave you feeling completely comfortable the day of knowing your MUA can create exactly what you want.

Lashes are a must. They accentuate your eye shape, but make sure they do not over power your eyes. There are many different shapes and sizes, your makeup artist can find the right pair for you.

Exfoliation is key to removing dead skin cells that are getting in the way of your radiant skin being at the forefront! Use the week leading up to your wedding to focus on exfoliating.

week

Peels or Microdermabrasion are great options the week before your wedding. They are both forms of deep exfoliation, so you will leave with baby soft skin. Cut down on sun exposure after these treatments. Adding a mask 2-3 times a week is a great way to gently exfoliate and detox your skin. Try one of my herbal masque mixes here. SLEEP! I know it’s hard not to be excited before such a life-altering event, but the most powerful rejuvenating cosmetic procedure known to man is a good night’s rest. Wind down with lavender. It is a super soothing scent that will have you sleeping like a baby!

Your Wedding Day

Moisturize with your Laurel Whole Plant Organics serum the night before. Makeup applies much better on supple, hydrated skin.

Come to me fresh-faced, have a mimosa, & relax! You’ve put the work in up to this point, now it’s time to let me do the rest. Rest assured that you will be the epitome of a Blushing Bride!

Lips are a fun way to play with color, but also remember you’ll be laughing, talking and more importantly KISSING. If having a vibrant lip color is a must for you, be sure to not only take along the lipstick for touch ups but also a compact mirror.

L. BRO W N

Book a Facial. Included in your facial will be a skin care analysis that will give you a better idea of how you can realistically address any concerns you have about your skin in time for your big day.

Antioxidants are the little warriors in our body that fight off the bad crap, free radicals, that make their way into our bodies on a daily basis. What we take into our bodies can clearly be seen through our largest organ, the skin. For more radiant skin:

STRESS REDUCING

FOODS with Melissa Wytanis, Registered Dietician and former North GA bride by: Tiffany Loera

You have probably heard the old adage “you are what you eat,” and Registered Dietician Melissa Wytanis couldn’t agree more. Melissa received her Masters in Nutrition from the University of Georgia in 2014, and currently works at the Forsyth County Health Department in Cumming as the Manager for WIC. She is able to use her knowledge and expertise to serve low-income pregnant and postpartum moms, infants and children. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, golfing and hiking with her husband Joe.

Melissa shares her top 10 stress reducing foods, their benefits, and why they are important:

1.

3.

O AT M E A L

BLACK BEANS

Beans are a good source of the mineral magnesium, helping to lower blood pressure and cortisol levels which increase during stress.

AV O C A D O S

2.

Avocados are full of potassium and also contain folate, which helps to lower blood pressure for more mood boosting neurotransmitters. They are also a great source of healthy, mono-unsaturated fats, which contribute to better blood sugar and hunger control. This fat also helps keep serotonin receptors in the brain sensitive to it.

This helps boost serotonin levels and since it is a whole grain, it contains fiber, which keeps blood sugar levels more stable. In turn, you will avoid becoming ‘hangry’ or dealing with feelings of stress! Make your oatmeal extra yummy with a couple spoonfuls of nut butter for extra protein, fiber, and healthy fats.

4.

Yes, chocolate! It contains magnesium and antioxidants that lower cortisol levels. When shopping, look for at least 70% cocoa and keep the serving size to about 1ounce per day.

5.

ORANGES

This citrus fruit contains vitamin C and folate, as well as helping to lower cortisol. Folate helps the body with the production of serotonin and dopamine, which are neurotransmitters that help control your mood.

6.

Nuts contain B vitamins, which are depleted during stress. Nuts are also a good source of magnesium. Aim for a quarter cup of nuts per day or a couple spoonfuls of nut butter. Also, nut butter can be combined with many of the foods on this list.

7.

P L A I N Y O G U RT

Yogurt contains vitamin D and probiotics which have been shown to lower the stress hormone corticosterone that contributes to anxiety and depression. Aim to sweeten your yogurt with vitamin C rich fruits such as the next food, blueberries, for more stress-reducing power! northandpeach.com

In addition to the top 10 stress reducing foods, there are several important tips for eating healthy and maximizing energy that you can start with today. Remember, balance is key! Make half your plate with fruits and veggies at each meal, and include a lean protein or complex carb such as a whole grain (brown rice, oatmeal, barley) or a legume (beans or lentils). Don’t skip meals and remember to have a healthy snack in between. Healthy snacks can include a serving of a healthy complex carb and a protein, such as an apple with 1 tbsp. of peanut butter, a half cup of roasted edamame with 2 tbsp. of craisins, or carrots and hummus. Skipping meals and allowing yourself to get too hungry can lead to making poor food choices and effects portion control. Eat your calories vs. drinking them, and be sure to drink plenty of plain water daily! Typically, you should consume about half your body weight in ounces for water and limit caffeine as much as possible. Be sure to limit fried foods and added sugars. Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily, and always make time for things that make you happy! northandpeach.com

THE second P RO P O S A L By: Brittany Fulkerson

You’ve been swept off your feet, your full of all the feels, and you can stop relishing in your proposal memory. In fact, you’ve probably told the story a million times by now. But then the planning must begin. And you remember there’s another proposal that must be planned...your Bride Tribe. Gone are the days of calling someone up or asking them over lunch. We have entered the days where promposal is a thing and so is proposing to your bridal party. It’s a big deal, but more than anything, it’s fun and reminds your tribe how special they are to you and your special day. The more love you can add to the occasion, the better. Throw in some tears, and your got yourself a love fest. But from one former bride to another, we also understand that planning weddings is intense enough. How do you plan the second proposal? We’ve got the dibs fro you to make this process easy, fun, and worth the effort! PICK YOUR PRESENT Some people are great gift givers, and others of us aren’t. But the good news is these gifts can be fun and even a little silly. Don’t get confused with these gifts and the gifts you might give them on the wedding day. Think about what’s appropriate given the timeline. Bride tribe tees and tumblers are always fun especially if they find good use at your bachelorette party. You can go even a little more personal and create a memory type box with pictures from your friendship, a personalized note, and then fill it with your friend’s favorite candies. This is your time to have fun with doing your own “one knee” invitation.

WRITE YOUR PROPOSAL You can’t put all this thought into something without conveying to your tribe why you chose them. Words are sometimes hard to come by, so we recommend writing it down. You certainly can read it to them, recite it to them, or just let them ready it. But you should really make sure they know how special they are to you! They will be your support system through this. MAKE IT A SURPRISE They know you’re getting married, no surprise there. They might speculate they are up for the job, but try to act cool about it when you ask them to meet up. Make sure the if you’ve already proposed to one, they keep it hush hush until all have been asked. The element of surprise just adds more excitement and motivation for the big day. Go ahead and snap your selfies, but be sure to hold on these until all of the proposals have been made. Then you can make a cute Instastory to show off your tribe!

Your tribe is so important. They will be your shoulder to PLAN YOUR LOCATION hang on, your wine drinking buddy, your go to therapist, your Pick a place that’s special to both of you. This does not accomplice if you need to be sneaky, and your biggest fan have to be as complex as what your fiancé did for you. throughout. Propose to them. Woo them. And thank them. Maybe you have a favorite brunch spot or coffee shop the you frequent together. Maybe it’s even over chips and queso! Who doesn’t want to celebrate together over that cheesy goodness?! Make it easy, make it doable, but keep it meaningful.

So to keep you from falling into that trap, we found the easiest exercises that could be done to tidy up your bride bod….not for the groom, or the new mom, or even for the photos...but for the sake of the dress.

NORTH GEORGIA

WEDDINGS “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”

-Emily Bronte

We’ve cultivated real North Georgia weddings that begin with the same idea, two people creating their own love story. Out of their journey, we are able to witness the beauty of their special day...the beauty in the details... the dress she imagined standing next to him, the cake they would cut together, and the rings that would represent their unique bond forever. These weddings are as true as the bond of marriage, and their story is a great start to someone else’s. They highlight the best vendors in the area - venues, cake, floral, coordinators, photographers, and so many more. Let their love stories ignite your own!

a rainy lake lanier wedding

A L I S S A + TAY L O R NOVEMBER 2017

“During their vows to one another, Taylor started off by saying that Alissa is the most enchanting person that he has ever met. My heart melted instantly, and I’m sure that everyone else’s did too. The way that Taylor stares at Alissa is the sweetest, most loving stare that I have witnessed. Pure, devoted love.” -Sydney Bruton, Sydney Bruton Photography

WHERE/HOW DID YOU MEET? Taylor and I met through some mutual friends back in college. His idea of “flirting” was totally lost on me, so when he asked me on a date a few weeks later, I was completely caught off guard – but to my surprise, Taylor proved to be such a breath of fresh air. He was humble, attentive, and such a gentleman. Needless to say, I decided to keep him around for a while! WHERE DID HE PROPOSE? Taylor proposed at Lullwater Park in Atlanta, GA. We’ve always enjoyed going on walks and exploring all the natural beauty around us, and this little park was a hidden gem right in our own backyard! DID YOU CRY OR LAUGH OR BOTH? It was all laughter! Looking back, I would have expected to have been a big blubbery mess, but I was so overwhelmed with joy and excitement that it was all smiles, laughter and smooch-

es! As many times as you might picture how you engagement will unfold, nothing can prepare you for the emotions you feel when your favorite human asks you to be his wife. SURPRISED OR NOT? Definitely surprised! We had been talking about “next steps” and how excited we were to start building our lives together, so I knew we weren’t too far off – but I had this strong hunch that Taylor would propose during an upcoming vacation that had been looking forward to for months. But of course, he had a feeling I might expect that, so he threw a bit of a curve ball and popped the question beforehand! It made our vacation even that much more celebratory – we were floating on cloud nine the whole time! FAVORITE PART OF WEDDING DAY? Hands down, the best part of our wedding was the spontaneity (or what some may call chaos!) of it all! We planned to have an out-

door ceremony overlooking the lake, but come our wedding day, we were gifted with a relentless, torrential downpour! I had spent the last 7 months planning every last detail, but God taught me an important lesson that day – that His plans are always greater than my own. We embraced the venue changes and weather with JOY – dancing around in the rain and laughing at the way it all unfolded. Absolutely nothing went to plan, but that was the fun of it all…to let it all go, and enjoy the true meaning of our wedding day! ANY BIG CHANGES SINCE MARRIED? We waited to move in together until after we got married, so living together for the first time has been an adventure! We’ve been very intentional about building the culture of our marriage around the things we value most. It’s been a season where we get to “re-write the rules” – and we’ve been spending a lot of our energy learning more about how God designed marriage to be fulfilled, getting more involved in our church, setting goals for money-management, and learning how to balance our friendships and relationships in light of this transition. We’re sure that this whole “balance” things will be a life-long journey, but we feel confident that setting goals for the roundedness of our lives, and keeping a pulse on each other’s hearts will inevitably result in the most JOY! romantic riverfront wedding

E M I LY + J O N AT H A N OCTOBER 2017

“I don’t get many things right the first time, In fact, I am told that a lot Now I know all the wrong turns the stumbles, And falls brought me here And where was I before the day That I first saw your lovely face, Now I see it every day And I know That I am, I am, I am, the luckiest” -Ben Folds, “The Luckiest”

WHERE/HOW DID YOU MEET? We had the cliche office romance, we started secretly dating a month after I started working at the same company as Jonathan. A group of coworkers would go play trivia every week, which is how Jonathan and I got to know each other outside of the office.

SURPRISED OR NOT? I was very surprised!

WHERE DID HE PROPOSE? I was working on my Masters degree in an evening program, and came home after a late class to a candlelit path to the balcony. Our song was playing, Jonathan had strung up twinkling lights all around the balcony, and had a dozen red roses waiting.

FAVORITE PART OF WEDDING DAY? Seeing all of our loved ones in one place was really great. We also had an amazing fireworks send off over the lake at our reception that was picture- perfect!

DID YOU CRY OR LAUGH OR BOTH? Jonathan cried.

COUPLE SONG? “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds. This was also our first dance song, and has always been “our song.”

ANY BIG CHANGES SINCE MARRIED? The biggest change is that we’re now expecting our first child! It’s been an exciting and busy year full of adventures, and we’re looking forward to our next biggest adventure yet!

My coworker got engaged and toured Greystone. She told me about it and that I should take a look at it because it’s beautiful. We

a downtown elopement

MARISSA + KASON MAY 2018

“Your heart has called me closer to you I will be all that you need Just trust in what we’re feeling Never leave, ‘cause baby, I believe In this love” -Anita Baker, “Sweet Love”

WHERE/HOW DID YOU MEET? We actually met at a nightclub about 9 years ago. Kason attended Morehouse college & he and a few of his friends started throwing parties in college in order to make ends meet as college students. The nightclub was Club Libra. I remember walking up to the line and seeing this guy but didn’t really pay him any attention. I asked him how much the entry fee was for the evening and as I was walking inside he stopped me and told me how cute I was and wanted to know if he could get to know me. We exchanged numbers and we went on a couple dates. We weren’t serious at the time and lost contact over the years and dated others in between. My best friend Donna attended college in the Atlanta University Center with Kason & he’d always ask her about me when he saw her but at the time I was in a relationship. He’d always asked if things don’t work out for them keep me posted! Well that opportunity came and she didn’t hesitate in letting him know! She gave him my contact information

he called & we talked for hours, making up for lost time and the rest was history! WHERE DID HE PROPOSE? The proposal wasn’t your traditional proposal. It was nothing special or glam about it at all. We had been dating at the time for about a year and a half and one night over dinner we started discussing our future. While discussing our goals, I told her that I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her and start a family. At the time we knew we didn’t want a big traditional wedding and all the debt that came with it so we went online and shopped for a wedding rings and started to plan our elopement. DID YOU CRY OR LAUGH OR BOTH? Even though it wasn’t the traditional proposal, I still was a little emotional to hear that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I was happy and full of so many emotions at the same time!

SURPRISED OR NOT? I was definitely surprised! It’s like you know its gonna happen but when?! Of course we’d discussed it before but to actually hear him say those magical words was so refreshing! COUPLE SONG? We are both young people with very old souls! We love old school jams and r&b when it come to music. We don’t particularly have a favorite song but we love to listen to Teddy Pendergrass and Anita Baker. FAVORITE PART OF WEDDING DAY? Favorite part of the wedding day for me was marrying my best friend and seeing the smile on his face when we were pronounced man and wife! Also seeing all of our close friends, family and our support system so happy at the reception. It was truly a joyous occasion. ANY BIG CHANGES SINCE MARRIED? Yes! We are currently living with Kason’s parents as we wait for our home to finish being built in October. Also two days after our wedding we found out that we are expecting. MAURCUS + JORDAN MAY 2018

“We’ll be movers and shakers and leaves on a tree We can talk smart or just act a fool I don’t really care It doesn’t matter to me Because I know that I’ll be with you Yes I know that I’ll be with you” -”La Reyna” by Penny & Sparrow

WHERE/HOW DID YOU MEET? We met in Toccoa, GA. I was working at a gym, and Maurcus would come in and pump iron with his friends. You know the saying “curls for the girls”, apparently it really works!

Maurcus held it together so well. Actually, the first time I ever saw him cry was when I walked down the aisle of our wedding.

WHERE DID HE PROPOSE? He proposed on a dock at the lake near my house. It was the sweetest proposal! Maurcus had the dock lined in candles, and the end was decorated in all of my favorite things. There was music, plants, more candles and snacks... He knows I can get hangry. Haha! Afterward, he blindfolded me and took me to our local coffee shop where our friends and family were waiting to celebrate with us!!

COUPLE SONG? La Reyna by Penny and Sparrow

DID YOU CRY OR LAUGH OR BOTH? Definitely laughed, I’m pretty sure that is our favorite thing to do together. After he popped the question, he started playing songs that were important to us, and I cried like a baby!

SURPRISED OR NOT? Shocked!

FAVORITE PART OF WEDDING DAY? Weddings are truly the only time where all of your favorite people in the world are together in one room! We couldn’t stop smiling getting to reunite with our closest friends and family! ANY BIG CHANGES SINCE MARRIED? Yes, actually! Maurcus just accepted a new job in Los Angeles a few days ago, so we will be relocating from foggy San Francisco to sunny LA at the end of this month!! Wish us luck!

A GROOM’S HOW TO

BE YOUR FIANCÉE'S

A L LY

By: Brittany Fulkerson

Be attentive. Ask her how things are going. Ask her about work or about wedding details. If you can beat her to the punch, she’ll understand how much you love and care about her. Be involved. If she’s wanting to share things with you, you have to find ways to be involved. Not i”n the way”, but involved. Get your families addresses for her. Build that sign for her. Pick that package up for her. If she needs a task done, see if you can take that off her to do list. Care. Caring means many things. It means remembering things she’s told you. Really listening! Offer to give her a massage or let her take a nap while you clean up the house. Believe it or not, this is a super stressful time. There are so many details that go into this and so many decisions to be made. Now’s your chance to show her what type of spouse you are going to be. Do the tough stuff. No one wants to get into conflict, buuuut more than likely there is going to be a little conflict here and there. The best thing you can do is support her and her side. You often can be the peacemaker or the mediator in relationship rifts. Men have a way of diluting tense situations. If you can help in some area, then do it especially when it comes to your own family.

Hang in there. It is easy to get annoyed at how “big of a deal” this is. And you may feel like this wedding planning is turning your love into an obsessed lunatic (ok, maybe a little strong), but she is doing all of this because she wants this day to be perfect. Not a perfect display, but a perfect celebration of your love for each other. So if you have to hit the gym extra hard or do some more praying or meditating, do it. Just really try not to get into fights with her because she only has one focus right now. J&C CREATIVE CO.

S L AY THE GROOM ROLE

LILIANA LEAHY PHOTOGRAPHY

A GROOM’S HOW TO

HORN PHOTOGRAPHY

The groom is often the forgotten token of this whole celebration of love and commitment, which might leave you feeling a little lost on your big day. You may think your only responsibility is to show up to your scheduled tux fitting, rehearsal, and the actual wedding. But you don’t want to be mediocre. You want to be the best darn Groom out there. And we are going to show you just how to do that. GET HER A GIFT OR SEND HER A NOTE This is probably one of the best things in recent years. Sending your almost bride a little love note or even a gift while you two are getting ready to tie the knot is probably one of the sweetest gestures you’ll ever do for her. Not only does it make for amazing memories, it gets all the feels started before you even hit the isle. BE SOCIAL Some grooms are naturally social, some are not. But you are going to meet a whole lot of people on your big day… distant family members, old friends, and other randoms. You may never see these people again in your life, so this is your one and only first impression. Take time to talk to guests, introduce yourself, chat her uncle up a bit. Put on that charm. You, after all, are the happiest guy on earth now. Don’t let your social anxiety get in the way of wooing your guests.

BE ENTHUSIASTIC There are a lot of rules/traditions to follow, a strict agenda, and timing is everything. The best thing you can do is be aware of that, help rally your party to follow along too, and be receptive to requests from photographers, wedding coordinators, and your bride. Once you get all of these detail things down, you can relax at the reception. SURPRISE HER WITH SOMETHING You did the gift, but you can go a step more. Shoot for a surprise at the wedding reception. Maybe it’s a surprise song or slide show or speech. But think of something that is unique to both of you that you want to share with everyone. BE PREPARED Do not wait until last minute to get all your ducks in a row. Write your vows at least a month ahead of time. Go ahead and write your Groom’s Speech/Toast if you are doing one. Practice dancing if you are a terrible dancer. Take dance lessons if you have to. Find your best angle and smile. You will be taking tons of pictures. Try to work out the awkwardness early so that you won’t have to look at your creepy self hanging over your couch for many years to come. It is a tough role, but you got this. This day is as much for you as it is for anyone else. Be prepared for it, but enjoy it!

tips on

1. Tell her the plans. Be honest. Short of your buddies kidnapping you for your night out (which evidently IS a thing), you need to tell her what’s up. Give her a rundown of where you’ll be and what you’ll be doing. Now is not the time to start keeping secrets. Many of weddings have suffered from lies told about a wild night. Honesty is the best policy.

able with. I was once given the best relationship/marital advice. My sister in law told me that if there was something either one of us REALLY didn’t want the other doing, no matter how silly, then don’t do it. Don’t over abuse it, but give in some. If you’re fiancée is REALLY uncomfortable with an activity (we can only imagine) that might be planned. Do you ignore her feelings and create instability in your trust bond before you commit your entire life to this girl, or do you give in and back out of that activity because you respect her wishes? You can still have fun, you can still party.

2. Is it worth it? Don’t do anything she doesn’t feel comfort-

3. Send her a couple of messages.

So why do we even bother? Well, because it’s our last hoorah! Maybe not the last, but it’s nice to be celebrated and have fun with your friends. We’ve got the perfect tips for you to survive your fiancé during this “hoorah”.

Unless your girl is out and about that night too, chances are she’s sitting at home watching her phone. Do us all a favor and send her a text before things get too tipsy. Tell her something sweet, and tell her how much you love her. If you can muster another text later on, at least to let her know you’re ok if you aren’t coming home, that would be super nice. She might be able to keep her pretty nails in tact. 4. Party together. This is a growing trend. If your group of friends is close, why not party together? You don’t have to stick together the whole night. But start off with dinner together and

maybe some drinks, and then you might part ways for a bit. Some couples just throw huge parties and stay together all night. 4. Take pics to show her the next day or tell her all about it. Your willingness to document and share things really shows her you have nothing to hide. And maybe you should document things so you know what went down too. And be patient when she asks the million questions you know are coming your way.

tips on

H OW TO W R I T E YO U R VOWS 5 things to do

Does all of this seem a little unnecessary? A little too much clinginess and distrust? Our answer: you’ve made it this far and are ready to commit a lifetime to someone you really love. You are embarking on possibly a very wild night filled with alcohol and the influence of other people. There is nothing unusual about an apprehensive and inquisitive fiancé. You can prove your honesty and commitment to her with little effort on your part. Wouldn’t you want the same?

1. Open with your favorite memory of her or how you met. Talk about the weather that day, what she was wearing, etc… this will make her realize how important that day is in your mind. 2. Pick three ways she has changed your life for the better. 3. Tell her three things that you will do or be for her forever (make one of them cute like how you’ll always bring her favorite “thing” when she’s sick) 4. Tell her three ways your life would be less without her.

__________ , I’ll never forget the day we met. It was a nasty rainy day, and everyone had their umbrellas up not looking around as they were rushing to class. I, too, was in a hurry. For a split second, these wild colored rain boots caught my eye. And I looked up one more time, and I saw you huddled under a leaking awning nearly drenched. I’d never seen a drowned rat look so beautiful. I expected to see a frown on your face, but you were laughing hysterically. And I knew you were someone I wanted to know. You were contagious. You have continued to bring that contagious laughter into my life for _____ now. You’ve taught me to laugh at the light stuff. You’ve shown me more compassion than I deserve. And you have opened my heart and mind to things I didn’t even know existed...like Disney movies. I promise to continue to watch those Disney movies but only at home for the rest of our lives. I promise to always bring you those cheap cookies from Dollar Store when you are sad. And I promise to always be a shelter for you when the world just seems too much. You are a kind, gentle, loving soul with passion I can’t replicate. My life would truly be less without you. I wouldn’t know love like this, unwavering and unselfish love. I wouldn’t know compassion like this. And I would not know forgiveness. You have given me all of those too many times to count. And I’m totally undeserving, but also in awe of how you can be so present and honest. “From this day forward, you shall not walk alone. I will be your shelter, and my arms will be your home.” northandpeach.com

My name is Makenzie Spivey, Venue Director at Ogletree Estates. My journey into the special event industry began my sophomore year of college when I became employed at a venue in Dahlonega. I quickly discovered that it brings me great joy to collaborate with brides to create a wedding day filled with happiness. As I completed my Music Education degree at the University of North Georgia, I simultaneously gained years of experience in the wedding event business which laid the foundation for my passion for All Things Wedding! Embracing the challenge of full time employment and college classes provided unprecedented experience in multitasking, time management and efficiency.

Third, the Pastures of Ogletree Estates provide an idyllic setting for you to create the wedding of your dreams. Spread across 60+ acres, the estate grounds are full of natural beauty, blooming floral arrangements, grandiose oak trees, scenic rolling hills, and Mt. Yonah in the backdrop. The Pastures of Ogletree offers the perfect outdoor site for ceremonies, cocktail hour, receptions, and rehearsal dinners.

How did you get started with OE? My dream at Ogletree began five years ago at an amazing venue in Dahlonega. At that venue I wore many different hats as a staff manager, venue manager, and coordinator. I also worked with incredible vendors and made lasting relationships along the way. A few weeks before I graduated, a fellow coordinator informed me of the opportunity at Ogletree Estates. When my fellow coordinator called, she gushed, “I told them all about you and Makenzie, this is the perfect job for you!” Words will never be enough to express enough gratitude for that phone call! Within forty-eight hours an interview had been scheduled, completed, and job accepted. It was a wonderful whirlwind! It is my honor to handle all the large and small details to ensure that you will enjoy a memorable and seamless event. Southern hospitality, stylish creativity, and impeccable organizational skills culminate in my promise to make your day beautiful and flawless.

What makes you different from other Venues in your area? Personally, I believe the versatility of OE sets us apart. The historic elegance of the estate home juxtaposed with the modern event space is a rare combination. The photo opportunities are endless. Brides are given boundless creative freedom and access to the entirety of Ogletree property. As we book no more than one event per day, each wedding is exclusive unto itself and special in its own right! Brides also have the freedom to select their own wedding planners, caterers, florists, and decorations. With an extensive list of suppliers to choose from, we can assist you as much or as little as you require! With no limitations in creating your vision, you are guaranteed an exclusive event, eliminating that production line feeling. Ogletree Estates assures you a completely tailor-made and unique experience for you and your fiancé́.

What are some of the unique features of OE? First, inspired by the classical architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, the Ogletree House is a large two-story neoclassical home featuring a full width balcony with lofty columns. Elegant and gracious, the interior encompasses an open and airy foyer, a sweeping staircase, chandeliers in every room, and a formal parlor and dining area. The Bridal Suite encompasses the left upper wing with its own private bath. We married and began our life together in Utah with our five children and sixteen grandchildren. Twenty-five years later, Alan kept his promise to someday return his sweetheart, Debbie, back to her southern roots. As we drove up the tree lined drive of Ogletree Estates, Debbie said, “I knew it was my Tara.” Whatever state we are in, you can find us on our double bicycle, sitting on the back porch, or doting on our grandkids. LIE JU

M E E T Julie f a c i l i t y m a n a g e r a t 6 1 4 0 E v e n t s

LEIBEL

I am a Georgia native, having grown up in Atlanta. I have a B.A. in Communications from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and am a mother of 3. In my former life, I worked in the motion picture industry in Los Angeles and Atlanta, then produced television commercials, and later worked as a volunteer for a non-profit in fundraising.

How did you get started with 6140?

What is your favorite aspect of 6140? My favorite thing about our venue is that it is a product of our family’s collective creativity. We turned a run-of-the-mill office park into a very cool event venue. My husband came up with the idea, and my daughter, Lauren, came up with our current slogan, “Your Vision, Our Venue”, which truly captures the essence of what we have here. Whatever our clients can dream up, they can bring to life in our spaces.

6140 Events was actually the brainchild of my husband, Steve, an attorney/entrepreneur, who saw the need for an event venue in this fast-growing section of GA 400 in North Forsyth & Dawson counties. The short story is that after a tumultuous first event, this fledgling business idea needed help in order to continue. My husband asked if I was willing to step in, and the rest is history. Having no background in the event business, I relied heavily on others in the event arena to give me pointers and share their experiences.

What are some of the unique features of 6140? 6140 Events has the only Groom’s Suite around. Weddings are all about the women, but we have a special hangout area just for the guys. It has a big screen SmartTV, a kitchenette, large restroom, and comfortable seating. We also are the only venue with our very own Court Room! We can conduct civil ceremonies there, and my husband (remember that entrepreneurial lawyer?) happens to also be a Georgia Officiant. It is also used as a setting for mock juries and trial preparation.

What makes us different from other venues in our area? We are an industrial-style venue, which is a totally different vibe for this area. And unlike many barns, we are able to offer our clients climate-controlled, handicap accessible space with paved parking, and easy access on GA 400.

We have hosted around 30 events so far in 2018, with another 20 on the books, but are just now beginning to get requests for corporate and private holiday parties.

What are some things that make you proud to be the venue owner of 6140 Events?

First tip: Do not try to do everything yourself. We can refer you to great people who can take your ideas and make them a reality. Second tip: Spend the nominal amount it costs to retain an event planner. They are worth their weight in gold, and can take so much stress out of the planning process. Third tip: Don’t be afraid of creating what’s in your head. There is a way in these spaces to do just about anything you, or Pinterest, can think of. How many weddings and/or events will you host this year?

I am very proud that we have created fantastic event space for this area of north Georgia. We have developed a really special venue that negates the necessity to go to Atlanta for great event space. We have so much to offer for any size event, from 10 to 250 guests. We are proud to serve the surrounding communities.

REAL LIFE WEDDING MISHAPS FROM WEDDING PROFESSIONALS By: Tiffany Loera

I was shooting family portraits in a beautiful park close to the wedding venue. We saw a big tree branch lying on the ground and it made for the perfect photo prop. The family went to sit on the branch, and we saw what looked like a piece of torn rubber on the ground. As we ventured closer to the branch, we realized the “rubber” was actually a snake! I have never seen that many grown adults run so fast in my life! -Tangie One time when I was second shooting, I was shadowing the main photographer during the girl’s getting ready time. In an effort to find a better angle, I proceeded to hop on top of a chair that was nearby. I totally underestimated the amount of cushion and lost my balance, bouncing right onto the makeup artist’s table with a huge CRASH! Thankfully, the only thing hurt in the process was my ego! –Tiffany I was shooting my very first wedding and started the day in the bridal suite with the bride and her bridesmaids. We waited a full 2 hours for the mother of the bride (who happened to be at home making bouquets). Eventually, the bride decided she no longer cared about the timeline and turned up an entire bottle of champagne which sure did make for some interesting photos! –Rebecca Everybody loves a good reception party with a dance floor full of fraternity and sorority guests, right?! At one of my weddings, the festivities got a little too crazy when someone accidentally poured their entire bottle of beer down the front of my body (and my camera)! –Stefanie Early on in my career, I was on my way to an out of town wedding when I slammed on my brakes and my camera went plunging into the floorboard. I didn’t realize anything was wrong until I began shooting and discovered my LCD screen was completely broken. Unfortunately, I had no back up camera at the time and found myself explaining the situation to the father of the bride. Thankfully, they were close friends and he immediately sent me to Best Buy with one of the bridesmaids (and his credit card) to buy a new camera! –Laurie During the ceremony, the officiant (who was also mic’d) was apparently dealing with a bad case of indigestion. What we initially thought was a low rumble of thunder in the distance turned out to be belching in disguise! The looks on the couples’ faces were priceless! -Ted northandpeach.com
